      Hellyea people try to make them all professional so they can charge a ton. I’ve always thought of it as a simple concept that can be used by travelers and homeless people

    • @DoNotPushHere
      @DoNotPushHere 2 месяца назад +11

      'Bout the tree protectors though... Some spare pieces of board or even some branches would benefit the tree so much... Nothing fancy, just spreading the tension of the small diameter rope

    • @MartinClarke-jj1rg
      @MartinClarke-jj1rg 2 месяца назад +3

      I mean fair point and all but those trees are going to just fine. If anything they will be happier having people bounce around those canopies. Trees are very resilient.

    • @AJPemberton
      @AJPemberton 2 месяца назад +5

      There is good reason to use protectors: you avoid partially or completely ring-barking the trunk or branch, or at the very least, reduce the chance of injury to the tree. If you are leaving it up for a long time, then eye bolts are the next step. And if you are doing this at height, then a climbing rig is only sensible.
      Despite what another commenter says, most trees don't 'enjoy' people bouncing around in their canopies. It takes years for branches to grow back and the open wound from any break can lead to rot or other disease.

      Seeing a sick web in a tree that you can chill in at like 100 feet high made me subscribe

  • @AJPemberton
    @AJPemberton 2 месяца назад +35

    3:07 tree protectors are not intended to make the rope more secure, as suggested here. They are meant to stop the rope from damaging the tree. There is a lot of pressure on the rope around the trunk. Over a fairly short time, it will cut into the bark and harm the tree. Fine if you plan to cut the trees down, or don't care about their health, but otherwise a few simple protectors are worth using.

    • @matt6740
      @matt6740 2 месяца назад +3

      Looks like it’s already dug in to some of the bark there. Love the video, but a bit more work would help the tree. Gotta take care of these trees that bring us joy!

    Hello Charlie this is just the size I want to start on. Are you using all static line or is the perimeter line dynamic? Also do you have any idea how many foot of paracord you have in this project? 1,000 ft? 2,000?? 3,000? I want to weave tight like yours.
    Thanks for sharing your amazing art.

      Any local hardware store Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace, etc will carry 550 paracord which is what he’s using. You can use 1100lb paracord as well if you’d like to be “extra safe”. Climbing rope you’ll have to order or go to REI.

      Ive build last week my first web, used eye screws or idk the name and static (8mm) rope from amazon, it was 2,4€/m and i got some 9 core paracord type 3 (4mm) for the mid. the net is very good and stable, today i tried climbing rope from aliexpress(yes china stuff) yet its good ( outer is polyester and inner is PP) it is elastic and i cannot make good knots so. i'd recommend to just use static rope i said earlier. so good luck mate! 🎉😂

    How often do you cut the paracord when you’re filling it in? Do you ever just throw the spool through your knots before tightening them? Could that make them more loose if so? May seem like stupid questions but just curious about how you do it so I can get in a better rhythm.

    when you are employing the "chaos pattern" you mentioned you just double loop as you go. do you periodically tie off those strands at any point? i'd be worried if ever the paracord broke the whole thing could start to unravel pretty quickly if it's not tied off anywhere. i know it's unlikely to break, but still seems like tying off every 10th connection point would be a good idea, no?

    Why oh why am i just discovering this. This is great alternative to a tree house structure. What exactly is the rope to use, do you have some detailed product descriptions of the types of rope for those of us with no experience with climbing ropes? Also is it only climbing ropes that are recommended, is there a minimum amount of tree trunks required, how long do the nets tend to last, or what should one look out for and after how long to make sure the net/web is still safe to use? Could you maybe do a video covering such things? Im just so blown away by this idea, its amazing. Instantly subbed.
