Six weeks before he went home. As much as we love and miss him and want him here God needed him more. He left an indelible moment in our hearts and souls that we'll never forget. He brought me closer to God when I was a little child...besides my family. Todays my Wonderful, Loving father's heavenly birthday. He would have been 90. Rip Dad, Mom, and Elvis and Lisa, and Ben. ❤
He was very ill at that concert, 8 weeks before he died! He still belted out the performance of a lifetime. He did play the piano. He's still the best selling solo male singer of all time and loved worldwide. 🇿🇦 He is no:🥇
Surely Elvis wasn't doing so well in 1977. But these recordings (the famous CBS recordings) don't always show the best of Elvis in 1977 either. It is true that Elvis also had good moments in his last few months. a few weeks before this recording and a few weeks after this recording there are pictures and other recordings where Elvis is doing pretty well and he looked fine too. On his last vacation in 1977, Elvis did a lot of sport and looked good (there are recordings of it). At the beginning of 1977 there are shots with his last girlfriend, where Elvis always seemed happy and looked pretty good. There is a recording of Elvis that shows him just before his death where Elvis is holding a glass of water and jumping off a wall. His athletic bodyguards have problems with that. And the last picture of Elvis, taken a few hours before his death, shows a relatively handsome Elvis driving with his bodyguards and family. After that he still plays the piano and according to the bodyguard he was happy. These are facts.
This video always breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes. He was so ill at that time and would pass away only weeks later. His performance was so beautiful and so strong and you could see in his face the pleasure and happiness that brought him.. his smile could light up a room. RIP Elvis
His voice just got so much better every year that he got older and it's so sad to watch this but I gave up on not watching it about 2 years ago because the performances from this any other concert that happened six and eight weeks before he died are just unbelievable. From a singers perspective, check out that operatic climax at the end, you can see him take a really deep breath and then once it gets rolling you can see his jaw just drop so far. You got to drop for the top as they say when it comes to that.
He died just weeks after this was filmed. He was so ill. This concert was filmed for a tv special. The tv special aired just weeks after the funeral. It ripped my heart out to watch it.
Some trivia for you: Elvis actually played the piano on this originally. There was no other or at least much more sparse instrumentation recorded at this concert in Rapid City, South Dakota. Drums, choir, horns, bass and additional piano (by studio musicians) were overdubbed later, because his label used this performance as a single in 1978. The overdubbed piano was certainly played by a more skilled piano player than Elvis was. What you hear here is the overdubbed version where Elvis' piano playing and the overdubbed piano are most likely heard at the same time. The airport footage has nothing to do with the opening of Indianapolis airport. It shows Elvis arriving at the place where he was to give his final concert on June 26, 1977, five days after his performance in Rapid City and some eight weeks before he died. He is shown receiving awards from RCA (his record label) and The Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain, represented by its then president. Later he would play Indianapolis' Market Square Arena with 18'000 people on hand for the performance and return to Memphis for a summer vacation. The start of his next tour was scheduled for August 17, 1977, the day after he died.
Bravo, superb, Elvis was and is the greatest performer of all time, and in centuries to come they will be looking back on these videos as entertainment masterpieces.
The man being presented with the award was Todd Slaughter, the President of Elvis's UK fan club. This was on June 26th 1977 at Indianapolis Airport, the afternoon of Elvis's last ever show at the Market Square Arena. The award was to mark Todd's 10 years as President, a position he still holds today, after over 55 years ....
This was edited after his death. The original version is just Elvis and his piano. They added the other instruments and vocals after his death. There was another version released earlier in July of 1977, a recording from an Aprils show.
Hello, and yes he was really playing the piano. The clip is edited and out of sync with the official and original broadcast, where, if I remember correctly, they had a different view of the ending, and someone has cobbled this view together. It, as you have rightly stated, is out of sync and makes it look like Elvis wasn't playing, but, bottom-line, yes Elvis could and was accompanying himself. From other clips of this performance you can see for yourself. Lovely, day to all.
That was his last live performance and earlier in it he had introduced his father who was present as well as his then g/f ginger Allen. During the concert he also introduced his backup singers, and his band. The way it was done was a bit unusual and some believe that Elvis felt he was not going to live much longer. Although his prescription drug addiction played a huge part in his passing, what not everyone knows is he also had digestive problems. This is a subject I know about first hand from having Diverticulitis, its where the food you eat builds up in your colon. It causes severe pain, imagine being constipated for weeks at a time. In my case my intestine ruptured and I almost died. Four surgeries later I survived but this was something Elvis was also dealing with.
@@renecents Actually , Charlie said stay with it as he could see Elvis was struggling ... Elvis replied I'm with it to let Charlie know he was in control .
Practically a dead man at that performance…but still kicking ass!!! Not really weight gain…but being "bloated" from fluid retention..either by heart issues, kidney issues or the liver. That's why I get so pissed when I hear…Elvis eating too many of those peanut butter and banana sandwiches….SMFH
You ruined this. Another vid of this shows him slurring his speech, with labored breathing as he walked toward the piano. Clearly, he was spiraling. He was so unwell and close to death. If you’d seen the correct video, you’d seen how bad he was. To be able to perform like this is amazing. The tribute is because he DIED 6 weeks later. And yes, you picked the wrong video. And yes, he played the piano. And you’re laughing throughout it.

My boy Elvis…so ill…hurts so much..he gave us all🤍 The Greatest ever
No other artists in history ever has or ever will be loved as much as Elvis

He was playing the piano. He had one at his home and played it every day. He passed away 16 aug. He was very sick.

A sick Elvis, but still a brilliant performance, and Elvis was playing the piano.
Yes he was playing the piano. Played and sang it on his piano in Graceland. He could do and sing all music.

Beautiful man.. he knew he was so sick but his voice never let him down .. never be another like him… God bless u Elvis ❤️❤️❤️
No one has put that kind of heart & soul into their music. He was definitely ALL IN!

Every song Elvis sang became unique no one interpret the songs like him. Your performances are iconic. Your voice is unique, it's timeless. The King
Guy holding mic was his army buddy who came from a musical background, Charlie hodge was a true friend to the end
Charlie was one of the few true good guys around him.
This was the last song he sung live before he died. The tribute was to him, the greatest of all time.
Nope. Can't help falling in love was his last song on stage
@@doncrews2301 regardless, he died soon after.
We used to have an Elvis Christmas every year. My mom would play every Christmas song he ever sang. 😂🤣

The eye contact was to say… I still got the voice
It hurts so much to see him like this. I loved him since I was 14 years old.
I'm 80 now❤
FANTASTIC!!!! FANTASTIC!!!! FANTASTIC!!!!
Elvis the King!
He played by ear. Elvis was a artist. 💕

Yes, at the very end it sounds as if there are 2 Elvis vocals.
He played the piano. He played on a few of his earlier songs as well.

Piano. Love ♥️ Joanne Resh
He's very unwell here. Barely able breathe. 🥃
They gave him an award for the song moody blue at the airport
Of course he was playing the piano!! It was a solo. The music and the backup singers were dubbeld in later.
At the airport Elvis had his own plane in the end the liza Marie name it after his daughter.....
Guys Elvis was looking at a band member he used his face and hands to let them know when to speed up or slow down
There was no greater singer nor performer. It was him playing the piano.
There’s a part in that song where he says out loud to himself…
“Keep breathing’”…..if you listen close….
He said hit me with it
Unchained Melody. A cappella. Home Free. Unreal. Check it out!
Please watch Poke Salad Annie live Las Vegas
If you listen he says get me with it
Hey David. Actually, he says “hit me with it”. A cue for the band, I suppose. Lovely day to you.

He was literally dying.
I think that was gold record for moddy blue that was a long time from gold records....
