- Stunt work is an intense and often dangerous part of filmmaking. Its usually done by professionals, but some actors like to take the risk themselves! They go through extreme physical training, and put their lives on the line to get the perfect action shot. From Tom Cruise in Mission impossible to Tom Holland in Spider-Man and Jackie Chan in Rush Hour 3, we've listed the top 6 actors who do their own stunts and highlighted some of the most dangerous stunts they've done.

Just seeing the title, I was like: ok top two are Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise. I was curious who you picked on 1st place.
Agree Jackie Chan is the best. All the other actors have safety wires on. Jackie jumps off a building without any wire (multiple times), hangs off a bus just holding an umbrella etc. This guy is on a completely different level. A miracle he is still alive.😅
Tom Cruise and Jackie are two actors that I admire, they do their own dangerous scenes that not all actors dare to undertake without using a stuntman.
The fact that Keanu Reeves is really trained to shoot like that is crazy, he could do hits in real life 😂 and get away with his driving skills

Daniel Craig is so underrated as Bond. No other actor in the series put that kind of work in.

What like about Jackie is his humor in films and his self-deprecating attitude you see in outtakes. And the John Wick flicks are just badass, who would've thought he would portray an even bigger character than Neo.
Respect to the camera men
Jackie Chan does the most dangerous stunt without any safety (No safety wire for most of his stunts back in the day) hence most of the time he is even expected to be injured. Tom Cruise does the most over-the-top stunts but mostly safe (basically daredevil stunts where there is safety but if something goes wrong it is a guaranteed death). Keanu Reeves is not within Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise level but he is not to be considered Tom Holland or Daniel Craig level either. He is more like the in-between the GOAT and casual stunt performers by an actor.

This is a dieing thing in Hollywood. I’ve always said Tom Cruise will be the last of its sort but would love for Tom to keep it going
All fantastic actors. The requisite dedication and long hours of practice cannot be understated. I know firsthand the grueling work of earning a brown belt--I can't imagine what these guys had to go through to pull off these stunts and incredible feats of daring. And they did that while being awesomely entertaining, keeping us glued to our screens. While watching a couple of these movies I think I stopped breathing a few times in amazement.
Jackie Chan is the king when it come to action
I believe Tony Jaa should have honorable mention. Is a person who has studying martial arts, Tony is an absolute wizard and an incredible athlete and martial artist. His fight scenes are second to none.
Great List! Honorable mention would be Burt Lancaster in the movie 'The Train' . That dude was doing all sorts of hardcore stunts in that film.
They are insane! And the directors who let them do it and get injured are also insane! And yes that's one more reason why they are great actors devoted to their job.

First 5 do their own stunts. Jackie's just in a league of his own. He's just lucky to be alive.
Steve McQueen. He was dying of cancer and still insisted on doing his own stunts in his last film The Hunter. Hanging off the side of trains in Chicago and jumping from carriage to carriage. If you listen closely you can hear his groans of pain each time he lands. He didn't have wires helping him either unlike many of the people mentioned here.
Kurt Russell deserves a mention too.

Oké Jacky Chang is the Goat in stuntswork for real! But Tom Cruise did it in a fighter plain, Advanced diving, learning his breath to hold for over 6 minutes, learning to drive everything! Hopefully, he can learn to ride a FLYING DRAGON in the future!!!!

Viggo Mortenson not only learned how to wield a sword to make it look real, his sword was 100% real, plus he does own riding, deflected an actual knife that was misjudged by the other actor in Lord of the Rings, and even learned the native American language in Hidalgo

I know some others who have done good stunts, like Clint Eastwood, but the only one that can compare with Chan is Buster Keaton.

I would drive a motorcycle off a cliff with a parachute, fight someone on a helicopter while secured by harness, train for hours for a scene, but slide on that roof without safety? What? Electrocuted, cuts and all? For how much money? JC is numero uno.
And despite all those injuries, he continues to work. I remember during a stunt in Rush Hour 2 he broke three ribs while climbing thru a metal window and continued to film, saying, "Jackie always okay." Mad respect 🙏🏽 🫡 👏.

No, Jet Li, most assuredly, did not do his own stunts. Maybe some but you can tell by how his fights/stunts are edited. Maybe in his first few films.

You should check about what french actor Jean-Paul Belmondo did for some of his movies... Check films like L'HOMME DE RIO (That Man From Rio), LE GUIGNOLO or PEUR SUR LA VILLE (Fear Over The City / The Night Caller) : crazy stunts in them !
