A lot of people would blame Nu Metal for dumbing down riffs, but I personally blame Metalcore. They started the trend of "shredding=riff" and took all the emotion out of writing riffs
Nu metal had a lot of great riffs that were born out of groove metal and other influences. I would definitely agree with you on metalcore and post-hardcore ruining metal by making it too rhythmic.
@@Kruegernator123 exactly. Shredding is a tool meant to help the song/solo, but metalcore bands just said "watch how fast I can play this scale" and called it music
lol bands like A7X and early Bullet For My Valentine literally revived riffs after Nu Metal😂blame whatever metal is at the moment that exchanged guitars with synths
I write and record my own instrumental music because I miss the world off riffage, my dad and my brother love it so it really makes it worth it because unfortunately no one else likes it.
Deliverance is one of the more underrated albums of all time, with Clean My Wounds among its shining points. An absolute blast to play on guitar. Was lucky enough to be a subscriber to quality guitar magazines at the time and still have the issues with tabs for Clean My Wounds & Albatross. Would never have pulled off the solos and solo-bridge harmonies otherwise. Thanks for the reminder & enjoyed watching/listening to the Bulavira song again.
Interesting. Do you think we need a new wave of metal? Some sort of new thing that will evolve? I don’t really know what I’m talking about. Maybe we will “get it” so to speak
Look at Something In The Way by Nirvana, its not metal, but still. 2 chords the entire song and its one of the best from their discography, and one of the most unique songs ever written by anybody.
I still like good riffs. Whether or not they're popular; like... who cares? It used to be a badge of honor if you liked bands that nobody else in your town knew about. Actually, riff rock & metal being less popular with mainstream losers should make it cooler in my opinion. 😎
Riff still are cool, but there Is a lot of Classic rock n roll and NWOBM ripp off that are sooo boring well say come on Man this Is metal give me that haunted melodies to my black heart
Stoner is an example of this. "Old School" riffs, repeating themselves on a hypnotizing loop and rhythm but doing the job... music is so rich that we just couldn't follow a pattern, but it must reflect the moment of your life, the mood and what are you doing at the time. Tendencies comes and goes every time and sometime someone nails on some style and all around begins to hitchhike this... but sometimes I like to listen to Stoner, as Black Metal, Heavy, Hard Rock, Post-Punk, Jazz, Classical and my old Nokia 3310 ringtone... just listen the right thing on the right mood at the right time...
But when you get back to the root, it sounds boring. I think no genre is guilty about it. It is a process and had to happen at some point. From now on only evolutions are going to rock the metal community. Last guys who did that are Polyphia
For someone who likes metal it’s not very rebellious to have a Ukrainian flag in your profile pic, thought you guys were against big government, corporate media and the M.I.C
This guy wrote “his majesty” and is riding this so much. He plays it in every video, its getting annoying. The song is awesome but he’s gotta write for lol

never loved metalcore, nu and thrash are basically my two favourite riff styles

there can never be enough good riffs
next vid: all within my hands but only when james sings "all within my hands"

Let's not forget Godsmack Voodoos' main riff was only two notes for most of the song and everybody loves that song

Іноді я думаю, що втомилася від риффів, але потім чую з плейліста дждждж і кайфую
James Hetfield once said, "RIFF!" .

Really good riffs are eternally cool IMO. The video presents an interesting notion though.
Cool
rammstein music is good because they're short and to the point
toni iomi is the best
