    @chihuahuabulldog Thanks Ann, Bandit just had dental work. He now has a silver tooth. He collided with Twix and chipped his canine. It cost me $4700 ARG! So, we had to work on calm things that involved soft food treats. :) He is all better now and can play with his new crown in place. :)

    I actually teach mirror image and then slightly move my hand that is mirroring the dogs paw slightly to the right or left to get them to follow my hand with their paw. You will find that one direction will be easier than the other. However, to answer you question, I do teach both paws at the same time. Also, I have switched to duct tape. I wrap a playing card in duct tape and use that instead of a post it, then when I go to transfer the learning to my foot, I wrap it around my shoe. :)

    Hmmm, move the target closer so that he does not move to get up. Also, go back a step and just get him to target what you are using without his nails on it. Once he understands at an easier step, then move forward to a more difficult step. Hope that helps! Pam

    @allmeansall No, that was just because Bandit already knows the trick and I must have just been having him target the post-it. Sometimes it is hard doing a tutorial with a dog that already knows the trick. For one, I forget to use the proper technique and rely on the dog to do the behavior. ARG! :) Second, a trained dog makes it look to simple and then when others attempt it they get frustrated. :( So, no reason. I would suggest to start with mirror image. :)

    @Kaye558 Remove the post it if they try to bite or chew it. Only click when they are not biting at it, then once they are not biting at it, then try to move it around to entice him to paw at it. Only click for paw targeting it. Also, if you laugh when the nip at it you are in a way encouraging that behavior, so just ignore the chewing, remove the post it and only reinforce acceptable behaviors. :)

    @lexisdogs Thanks! I know, I need more videos of Bandit. :) I am working on him working for multiple frisbees. He is usually a one frisbee dog, but today we had a break through and I got it on video. So, I will be doing some disc dog videos with him as my star. Each one of my dogs has different talents! :) Bandit can out jump Twix, but Twix will drop a frisbee to chase another frisbee where Bandit will just hold on to the one he has and watch the other one fly by. :)

    @Majoofi Yes, 3 pounds during the 3 weeks he could not play. I think he lost muscle mass. :( He is back to being able to play. I also was worried that without being able to play that if I fed him his normal meals he would gain weight. So, I did cut back on his daily intake. :) But not enough to lose 3 pounds.

    Pam, in the very beginning do you train just one foot at a time? My dog wants to use the paw closest to the postit rather than using the other paw and reaching across with it.

    @shortiiee181 I move my foot out of the way in the beginning when he would go to touch my foot and when his paw would land on the ground instead, I would click and treat. :) Eventually he learned that it was the movement and not targeting my foot anymore. I am struggling with this trick with Twix. He can get one side really solid, but we are both struggling with the other side. So, it takes time and no one is perfect. :)

    Any suggestion for pup extending nails like a cat while doing it and getting up to target instead of cross.

    Whenever I try to use objects to train my dog and I get to the point of removing it she simply won't do the trick unless the object is there, it's like she stays confused and does not get the hang of it. She doesn't know what to do without it, it always happens and i'm not sure how to switch her over from using the object to not using it. No matter how many times I go back a step by putting the object back.

    How can I fade the cue from the hand to the shoe?

      sorry, not fade, I meant place, I was confused... how can I place the cue from the hand to the shoe?

    • @Pamsdogacademy
      @Pamsdogacademy  10 лет назад

      You can start by teaching him to target your foot and proceed with the same steps as using your hand. You can use a post it or duct tape on your foot and have him target that with his paw. You can also put it on a verbal cue and add a visual cue of your foot by using your verbal cue... To do this you would need to have a solid verbal cue. Let me know which method you want to use and I can give you more advice... Have a great day & have fun training your pup!
