Hello People! Thanks for joining me for this super abnormal McPherson Guitar restoration! Cheers, Scotty D., Harpeth Guitar Restoration, LLC. Nashville, Tennessee
My oh my, McPherson has come a LONG way since those heady days!! Their new guitars are the pianos of the acoustic guitar world. Truly. Nice work on the flippity flop of those frets. Tuck that away for a rainy day.
Hmmmm, I didn't realize that some McPhersons were made in Japan. I though all of them were made on the other side of the state (I live in Wisconsin in the Milwaukee area, and McPhersons are made in Sparta , on the west side of the state, near ye olde Mississippi River), but sure enough, I checked on their website, and in the 80s, some models were made in Japan. I wonder if Terada (who made my 2005 Gretsch Country Club) made them.
Some form of epoxy likely. Back then, they thought epoxy would never fail. They used that a lot in Japan on guitars in the era this one was built. Bet the neck was glued with it too. If it ever needs a neck reset, it would likely need a kung-fu neck reset and conversion to a bolt on.
Interesting guitar, shame about that nasty glue though. As someone has already mentioned a neck reset would probably be a huge problem if they’ve used the same glue. You made an excellent job of re glueing the bridge, it must have been a very tedious task removing that old glue.

Great job on bringing this back to life. Hopefully it will inspire the learning guitarist to new heights 😊

@@ellenrugowski6255 I would put my money on Terrada. I have a 1985 Thumb and the resemblance is uncanny.
@@ellenrugowski6255 They we’re also produced by the Galloup guitar school in Big Rapids Michigan
