Kookaburra Vs Blue-faced Honeyeaters on a balcony

  • My usual kookaburra visitor seems nonplussed when a blue-faced honeyeater (also known as a Bananabird) tries to scare it off. The honeyeater gets some of his mates to come back, but the Kookaburra is bigger and not the least bit afraid. After they are gone, it sits there and grooms itself - it is the Lord of the Balcony.
Other birds can be heard in the background: crows, rosellas, myna birds, etc. Swifts are flying in the background looking for bugs in the air.

Love it when smaller birds hassle bigger birds. Usually I see Noisy Mynas harrassing Ravens. Once out in country NSW I was witness to the bizarre - Mynas harassing Ravens who were actually harassing a Wedge Tailed Eagle. Who seemed to be ignoring all of them as he rode a thermal. Very funny, no camera and no one else around to see it.
Nice videos, you have a good spot to birdwatch.

Haha great video, Kookaburra's truly have thick skin.
I live in South East QLD and commonly see the Blue faced honeyeater, Mickey Bird (Noisy Miner) and a magpie or two going at it with a Kookaburra in the middle of it and they never bat an eyelid.

ha, ha what great footage you got, I noticed that there was a juvenile blue-faced honeyeater with the adults as you can clearly see at 4:34 because of the olive-green colourations around the eye instead of blue. Laughing kookaburras don't really care about other birds as long as they don't feel threatened but those honeyeater sure got a bit to curious about the mysterious bird on the balcony next to them. Thanks for sharing

Kookas just don't give a shit about other birds. I watched one once where it had 4 magpies constantly pecking at it, dive bombing it and carrying on and it didn't move a feather or even acknowledge their presence for about 20 minutes.
