When people talk about reparations, it’s supposed to be for the descendants of slaves, period. How come what the ancestors in between slavery and today did or didn’t do is irrelevant? If they did nothing to move themselves forward, how is that society’s fault such that contemporary Americans have to pay for reparations?
It should be cash (14 trillion dollars to start) and laws created in our favor specifically for us, that way no matter where we live or move to from NYC to Cali we will have that much more protection.
I can support reparations if the people who are forced to pay them, are descendants or members of those entities who supported, committed, or defended slavery to begin with. To ask a descendant of a family that lost one or more members in the Civil to defeat slavery is not fair. But some of those organizations who committed, protected, and perpetrated in slavery, are still around today and they have never apologize for, or made amends for their acts. Harvard University was originally built by slaves lent by their masters to construct the buildings then server the students and faculty of that institution. Harvard is currently sitting on a trust fund of over one trillion dollars all contributed from slave owners. Then there is the Democratic party. the Democratic party was the party of the south, they ceded from the Unites States because we elected Abraham Lincoln, and to protect their slave traditions. After the civil war the Democratic party created the KKK to terrorize the blacks in the south and prevent them from exercising their constitutional rights, then passed the Jim Crow Laws in order to make it institutional racism against blacks. It was Woodrow Wilson who showed "The Birth of a Nation" in the White house thus caused a resurgence of the KKK in 20's. Then FDR in order to get his New Deal passed agreed with the Southern Democrats to exclude all blacks from the New Deal and the Social Security program plus he would veto any anti-lynching legislation from Congress. It was LBJ who passed the Great Society Bill with the help of the Republicans but then snuck in the Welfare act that has destroyed the black family in America. These two institutions alone have done illrepapariable damage to the Black population in America and they should own up to their misdeeds and pay reparations.
