Bella is from Leicestershire in England, and she shares how learning an American accent involved learning some choice curse words. And after Regina Hall shares that she spent all too much money for a donut in the UK, “The Last of Us” star Bella tells us why she would be terrible in a zombie apocalypse.

Dude I just realized how on her toes Regina Hall is when it comes to interviewing. She’s literally a seasoned veteran, like the way she helps Bella and is on her side the whole time is truly amazing

@@tannhauser5399 we don’t have to deep dive this, “true” and “proper” never made an appearance in my comment. someone can be good at something without having to wither it down to the bare bones of region or state or even town if you wanna get real specific. it’s good, it sounds natural, be it generically trained or not. we can just enjoy the way things sound sometimes 🤷🏻♀️
I am getting so frustrated with the people referring to the infected as Zombies. Zombies are the living dead. The last of us has NO zombies. They are humans infected with a fungus but are still alive.
Actually, the games never mention if the people are dead or alive. The ambiguity and the doubt of this are a big part of Sam and Ellie's scene, the fear of the unknown

Bella’s accent is great! I loved them in the Worst Witch and GOT. If you can pronounce the term “badass,” you’ve basically mastered American English.

Bella's American accent in TLoU is genuinely really impressive. A lot of British actors hear that the "standard" American accent is a little flat so they flatten it so much that it sucks all the features out of their speech (like Martin Freeman in Black Panther. It's juuust off and it's distracting) but Bella's sounds completely natural
I'm from the West Country in England. British actors struggle massively to do the West Country Accent. Like you said, they flatten and drag everything. We just nod our heads!

Also yes, the infected are not dead hoomans. They’re hijacked by fungi, which was a concept inspired by the fungi-infected insects out there. The environment of the original game was also inspired by the book A World without Us. Can’t wait for the show tonight!

When she cussed in that first episode we watched we were soo impressed. She sounds EXACTLY like Ellie.
She sounded like a brit forcing an American accent and then cursed like a old lady who really loves emphasizing the first letter of every curse word. I'm actually amazed with how many bad takes they kept in the show when they very clearly should've done some reshoots.

at the beginning im pretty sure she sounded very British , was like ohh they are going with the British accent...
you can tell olive oil is the first word she would say before saying her lines in an American accents, especially when she said "It's really hard" with an American hard r.

@@ryans413 TV shows often expand on things so they could possibly add in more flashbacks for Ellie that show her time with Joel. Or expand the ones that already exist, make them longer, more detailed. Who knows what they'll do.

Not really, actors who start with an HBO series often end up type cast, or end up going back to the smaller European markets for some reason. Event the ones like Emilia Clark, Sophie Turner, Kevin McKidd, etc who had prominent if not central casting roles in shows don't stick around long for bigger Hollywood productions. In some cases they go back home to do other projects. In others we find out they're only good at one kind of role.
To me for me personally she made it back in Scary Movie she was the best character in that movie franchise, but it's a shame they, the industry, never gave her her flowers ...

What gets me with the last of us is how they used real science, a real life terrifying fungus which controls as well consumes it's host from inside out. And the reality that the infected are literally still alive, trapped. Also the different stages of infection constantly evolving and adapting to it's environment, constantly finding the best way to spread and stay alive. Terrifying and I love it.

As a Canadian who spent 2 years in the UK, some things are a little overpriced, some things are cheap. Fresh produce, eating out was pretty pricey, but soda, confectioneries, and alcohol were cheaper.
