    My favourite line of this whole campaign still has to be. “Who’s murder is very convenient, but only in a theoretical sense and in no way incriminating.”

    I am running my own "murder mystery" D&D campaign. In my adventure, there's a serial killer loose in town. Like Kathleen, I had a few things to contend with:
    1. Game breaking spells: Yeah, there are spells in D&D that would straight up break a murder mystery, mostly necromancy. My solutions were:
    1.1. Necromancy. The city has a violent and nasty history with Necromancy spells, so they have some severe laws against the practice on the books. I didn't say the players can't outright use Necromancy, but they're going to have to go through hoops to either keep the practice hidden or get special exemptions for what they need.
    1.2. Another knock-on effect of the city's past is that anything that even remotely looks like grave robbing is punishable by death, so even access to victims' bodies is going to be a challenge. There are some bodies locked away that players can get access if they're smart, but some methods do come with more risk than others.
    1.3 Spells against the living: This is easier to do throw hurdles up over the necromancy, but I'm using the city like in 1.1 for Necromancy. The murders have been going on for quite some time. The town guard, being akin to medieval town guards all over Europe, have had no luck in solving the crime because they don't have the tools to solve murders in general. This creates tension in town. The Mayor, with backing from interests that run against the table's own patron, has put up a sizable bounty for the capture of the murder "Alive or Dead" style. This has attracted a flood of two-bit adventurers, sell-swords, and ne'er-do-wells looking for fast coin. They've been sitting in town for quite some time making themselves bad guests and fraying nerves with everyone. And like the town guard, they are also ill-equipped to solve murder mysteries. Thus, the party can't just rock up to anyone in town and just cast spells on them, like Zone of Truth or Charm Person. They can use magic if they're careful about it.
    2. Clues. Sure, there's physical clues the party can find, if they're smart and quick about it. But I also looked at the crime from a standpoint of "who knows what" and broke the puzzle up that way. Major groups have some information that can be helpful to the party, but the puzzle there is how to get them to talk to the party. And some of those groups are actively working against the common interests. My table is far enough along I'm safe to say I think they figured out that members of the local mob have taken positions within the city's various bars to throw up misinformation. (One of the members have made in-roads in befriending a member of the mob but hasn't thought to ask them about it.) I have to say my table is about halfway through gathering the crime. They don't have enough clues to figure out who or what's doing the killing, but enough to start pointing them in the right direction and maybe even identify interests that could be feeding them lies.

      If you're at all interested in trying out more mystery/investigation in the future, I like to recommend Gumshoe, Vaesen, and Brindlewood Bay. The first is great for helping you directly give out clues with information being more about what you know rather than if you know and is adaptable to most settings. The second assumes you're doing paranormal investigators in a world of hidden folklore, the adventures are really neat with a set solution but plenty of options in how you uncover/respond to it.
      And Brindlewood Bay is popular for its more directly open-ended approach. PCs gather clues from a package of situations, NPCs, & objects that they then use to literally theorize out the solution with a roll. Great for setting up interesting/mysterious scenarios but allowing discovery on both sides. Plus you get to play the Golden Girls in a Lovecraftian tale! :D

    So I may have put this on one of the videos, but just in case not, it was great to see all the Factory references as my dad was actually one of the initial people who was involved in the Factory scene at that time to the point he actually used to go to the pub with Joy Division across from their recording studio.

    Idea for silly 40k related pun: Ordo Zenos as some kind of sinister financial and/or tax organization affiliated with the Orzhov. Maybe they are somehow involved in (preventing) interdimensional smuggeling after omenpaths became a thing.

    I was 100% expecting the dude to have gotten himself killed deliberately after stealing and hiding (or possibly destroying) the deed, just to mess up *everybody's* plans, and at the end his ghost shows up again acting like he's still drugged and the players say "no! we know you did it!" and he says "I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you kids and your damn dog!"
