But when he stopped at Gracie's Pizzeria in Hamshire on the Glen in 1973 for what he thought was going to be a quiet Italian meal, he was aghast and taken aback by the starchiness of the Pasta. He remarked to a friend of the way home that "That meal was unpalatable".
Undoubtedly he was a great Actor and Director but as a human being he could be poisonous and thought nothing of being nasty to fellow Artistes and openly criticised them. This unpleasant and arguably unprofessional way of behaving was sadly common within the Hollywood world many other Actors and Directors passing on their opinions of others. We should not accept them as being accurate, to each his/her own. We should form our own opinions and not rely upon theirs.
I think his aknowledgement at the 1 minute 29 mark says a lot of what happens when one gets older.
Especially when one has drowned themselves in alcohol, as he did to himself.
Just a minor but perhaps important point: Ralph Richardson was not in One of Our Aircraft is Missing. I wonder what film Welles was thinking of.
The Lion Has Wings had Ralph Richardson in it; Michael Powell was one of the five directors; and is a pretty dull movie.

Many many people didn’t. He was that kind of guy. But that’s true of many great men. Not good men: great men.
