- This large yard was in need of some major attention, as usual. It had been neglected for years by the previous owner, causing all of the bushes and trees to grow amongst, through and over one another. The new owner, a property investor, asked us to thin it all out and make it ready for the new tenants. As you will see in the video, we did cut a few bushes back harshly, as they were growing out of the garden beds onto the lawn. It was a massive job, and it took us a solid 10 hours of work! This is the last footage I have of the all mighty Nick on file!!!

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.

A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.

Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.
No one could ask for a better assistant. I can’t get over how hard he works. He is amazing. Great team.
I don't know if your helper is a relative or a friend but he is really a great helper. He seems to anticipate what you need and does it and he sure works hard. I bet he walks miles on every job and this looks like a very large job. That yard is huge!
Nick is no longer with us, but he was a very good, reliable worker 🙂

I like to pretend George "Jim" has a bunch of helper Jims that he assigns to different jobs, and we never know what Jim will help out. I like "Rugby Jim" as he is super strong. He usually wears black shorts and a toque. I also like the "Mower Jim", because when he cuts the lawn, it's always the same rhythm. I'm sure they are all super hard workers and it's nice to see so many meticulous professionals. :)

I have never seen so many shrubs in one yard in my life! Not to mention all the undergrowth! You all did a magnificent job! I hope he doesn’t expect the renters to keep it looking this good!
I agree with you, it will be a real challenge for the tenant to maintain this garden. I think a lot more shrubs could have been removed. This is going to require a lot more than cutting the grass and watering! Not to mention the tools they’ll need to keep all those bushes under control! I’d love to see how it looks today.

I could watch your videos over and over. As a matter of fact I do. There’s something about pruning bushes and trees that have gone way paste their allowed size for the area they were planted to neglect to get the prune back needed. Some bushes need to be cut down to the ground every other year for the benefit of the plant itself. It’s called coppice pruning. It rejuvenates the plant and makes it more healthy.

I love the cleaner/assistant. He cleans up well after the cutter who's like cutting all over the place and not finishing one space before going to another. Good job tho, great clean up!
I was just thinking that. Saying to myself why doesn't he finish one section at a time.
He has to give the assistant time to remove the debris or he could get his feet tangled and fall, also you want to take the bulk off before you start shaping things.

Of all the lawn mow care that i see yours is i like the most because not only you mow but you clean all your debris dry leaves, bark trees and all those dirt all to make it a beautiful lawn again. Keep it up. By the way i've watched all your videos already some of it i play it again to watch. 😊

I just found your channel christmas 23 and have watched maybe a dozen clips. I love how you work and I bet yoiu miss Nick. yoiu two are a pair of tazmanian devils. the way you work one section at a time and the quality of work is truly caring for what you do. I love when you tell something about the plants or why you are doing something becuase then I learn something. coming from a colder climate its fun to see some similar plants that actually grow to be tree size keep up the caring work. fan from north of Chicago.
You did an awesome job, as always. I think your helper needs a raise. He does most of the refuse clean up, moving the ladder, raking, and swapping out power tools.
I've seen this video at least 3 times and it's one of my favorites. The before and after pictures are such a great change for the better. Hope the renters keep it up. Your transformations are fantastic guys. Hard work pays off. I eish I was young again.

I'm 72. I have always done my own yard maintenance and upkeep. I've also done lawn care for clients. I don't want to be young again, I would just like to be able to do my own yard again. I miss it so much. Pam in South Carolina, USA 🇺🇸
To anyone that complains- you know what, you arent the one doing the job, and they are. Ive been in this position, and sometimes you have to do what you need to do to get a yard back into shape. These guys did a fine job. Still a lot of maintenance for a rental. The owners must be real plant lovers. I would see next year if the owners wanted to have some of those specimens dug up and sold. they will be nice next year! He left more than I would have! Lol great job guys!

Your work is absolutely amazing. Here in Americaca we call it a yard but after your done a garden is much more fitting.

Its amazing to me that the bushes you have, we can only grow as an annual here in Banff, Alberta Canada. When I see them there they are huge.
That is an enormous back garden! And I love that ladder! Even I would feel safe on that ladder (I am 79 year old female, and can do a number of things, but climbing up ladders isn’t one of them)!

Fantastic border clean up! What a fantastic, mature garden and you handled the overgrowth brilliantly!. Sometimes we have to cut stuff back even though it's actually blooming, in order to wrangle it all. Everything blooms again much more prolifically the following year anyway. So many shrubs take a beating, a severe cut back to keep them in bounds. They come back stronger over time. Love that ladder.. looks quite heavy but having a small platform to stand on for safety is fabulous. WELL DONE! Blessings from Washington State💛🖤💛!
You guys did an awesome job; such team work! Frankly, a lot of those bushes are way over grown and need to be pulled out. Maybe the owner will realize that once they see the results. Hope your arm is getting better!

What a beautiful garden Next spring the plants should come in wonderfully. If he rents the home he should have you check the garden at least every 6 months as the renters may ruin its peace!

I agree a big helter shelter placement of bushes. He does a great job of cleaning these yards up. However, I've noticed that none of the property ownwrs did any sort of landscape architecture design when they deciding what and where to plant stuff.
Great job boys but think you could have cut back a bit more on the shrubs lining the lawn, that way when new growth appears it does not grow over the grass line so it is easier to trim each year. just my opinion though, and I'm from England so just going on plants that grow here.

You guys are so lucky there that you have the luxury of owning big gardens and yards. For us in Taiwan we don't have enough land. The hause has a big yard, wonderful trees and bushes. If I have a yard that bit I wil definitely plants vegetables so I will have fresh veggies all year round.

Thanks for the warning, but it wasn't really needed on this one. The yard wasn't over grown it was just way over planted. If people would check the mature size when planning it would save them a lot of time and energy on their yard work. Another great job guys.
