The tracks have been getting shorter for the last ten years or more. Everything used to be 7 minutes or more. Every track. Now you are genuinely lucky if you even get a full four minutes out of a tune and that is in any electronic music genre. I read somewhere it’s basically because of digital djing (ie cdjs, controllers etc) the tracks don’t need outros anymore. Plus with streaming the average listener moves on if the track doesnt pull them in within the first thirty seconds. I know on Spotify in order to get paid for someone streaming your song it has to play at least thirty seconds for that stream to count. So you don’t have these long as 64 bar intros to music partly because of shit like that. Digital makes shit convenient because you could have several thousand tracks in your pocket at once. However if you look at the actual cost to the music itself as well as how digital has impacted forms of media, people’s attitude toward djing etc I say it was absolutely not worth it. If it wasn’t for that pesky sync button there would be a LOT of people who are currently djing that would have to find something else to be into because they would not actually do the work to beat match. People always talk about older people being stubborn on that topic but you never hear them speak on the fact that they would not be djing if they actually had to beat match. If the machine is doing the work for you then I will respect the machine and say fuck you to you.
@aarons2632 you said everything that I already know but it's great to hear someone else speak on these things. I can't respect a dj who can't beat match or use vinyl.
