- Today we install the HKS Spec-L catback exhaust on my 2018 BRZ. It's probably one of the better sounding exhausts for the BRZ / FRS / GT86 platform, and for a fairly reasonable price. & adding another JDM part to the build!

Nice video, love the look of the Carbon tips. The hemholtz resonator on this gets rid of the drone. I bet this would sound nice with a UEL header.

Sounds awesome! I’m buying one as soon as they get back in stock. Everybody is sold out. I’ve seen two different versions of the Spec L for our cars. The one like you have and one that has longer different looking tips. Do you know what the difference is?
Good luck! Yeah the other version is titanium tips-- it's slightly louder and might drone more, but I've never heard it in person.

The hks looks like it has better quality made and quality control than my borla catback exhaust. Japanese exhaust is always better than American exhaust. Better quality control

I saw this exhaust locally to me and started to wonder what those were on the tips of the exhaust. Suprised they were carbon fiber! nice! definitely give you some good amount of street cred lol!. Sounds good too!

Just got this on my BRZ ts and loving it so far,! I’ve got a bit of spare cash for some extra noise however don’t want to get to the header just yet, would you recommend a front or Overpipe and catted or catless to squeeze some more noise?
If you're going for just noise I think if you did an aftermarket front pipe that would be enough-- I might not do catless though unless you're getting a flame tune because it could get raspy
I’d recommend go with JDl duel resonated front pipe . That’s what I have currently paired with my hks L2 and it’s amazing sound and minimal to almost no drone as well . But from outside it’s a banger .

nice car i have 2018 brz limited, i have Nvidia n2 exhaust & tomi headers, yeah it has a lot of drone but isn’t so bad if you have it in a higher gear

Walker are you still happy with this system? We bought a 2019 this week (same color) so I keep watching your content. Really like the look debadged. I know I told you that already. Anyway, really don’t want any drone. I thought that Helmholtz chamber was supposed to help with that. Just wanted to make sure you were still happy. My wife daily’s ours and we are almost 50 so don’t really want the drone. Really like the sound on yours though. Great job!
Thanks! Yeah I really like the HKS setup-- great quality part overall! Honestly I'm thinking about going louder & maybe single exit when I get a Varis rear bumper. Definitely zero highway drone, only noise it makes at all is accelerating uphill. There is a slight boom in 2nd/3rd gear around 2.8-3k RPM on an uphill or engine braking scenario but only for a brief moment so definitely manageable (personally I like the boom on decel). Would be careful with an Auto trans though if it hangs out in that rev range all the time, manual will be fine for sure
Lord Walker thanks so much! I really don’t want to be buying multiple exhaust systems to get the right one for us so I appreciate your thoughts and advice. I wonder how much louder it will be with a header? Lol. Thankfully in SC we don’t have any emissions testing and law enforcement seems to ignore loud exhaust. I really love the way the HKS system looks on that color, especially with the carbon fiber wrapped tips.
@@toddkokko5049 I think it would get quite a bit louder with UEL header but would probably still be fine at cruising because of the Helmholtz. EL prob not that much of a difference other than on WOT

I just got a 2020 86 will it matter the year on the car if i got this exhaust and does anyone know of a good website to buy this exhaust on im in California and concerned if it will ship because of the emission laws

What torque specs did you use in the bolts?
I have currently have the HKS spec L2 on mine , it sounds amazing. Video on my channel if you want to see it . Now I have it paired with JDL uel header , jdl duel res front pipe , and now it sounds amazing, while almost no drone inside . Also tip for drone , take out your sound generator tube from inside , you can do that by changing your inlet tube to Perrin or mishimoto, it’s a cheap mod but reduces the inside drone by huge amount . Most of the drone people are complaining about actually comes from that sound generator tube . Hopefully it helps .

Looks like it’s a pain in the ass to remove the stock exhaust with that rear diffuser in the BRZ, it gets in the way. I have a FRS . They don’t have that diffuser. Easier to remove

What wheel size do you run ? Was looking to get bigger wheels on stock suspension but didn't wanna touch the fender or rub at all
I actually have a vid on my wheels if ya wanna check it out-- they're 18x9.5 +38. You can fit them on stock suspension but I wouldn't recommend it, looks like a 4x4 on 18s unless you lower.

Yeah I am, the car is actually sitting a little lower now-- I'm on HKS Hipermax GT coils

Do you have exhaust noise regulations in California?
Yeah it's under 100db, but they usually won't bother you unless your exhaust is super obnoxious
