    If necessity is the mother of all invention, frustration is the father of half of my youtube posts.
    Posting my findings, so others don't have to suffer quite as much. Cardboard spools aren't going away, and despite Bambu Lab not developing the AMS to be cardboard spool compatible, the community came up with a fix.

    Thanks for sharing! I haven't had issues (yet) with cardboard spools but I will start using these rings to prevent problems. Great video.

    This cardboard spool fix is GREAT! It's simple, takes hardly any filament to make, prints super-fast on an X1 and it actually WORKS! I used the 199mm .step file and imported it into the Bambu slicer. The link to the fe set is in the description, above.

    I just use one of the thousand ring available on makers world or printables and I printed a raiser for the lid, like an inch, and I have zero issue with any spool, even the one slightly larger

    I tried TOO MANY of these rings from the maker sites. This one finally works. Print in PETG and it stays on fine.

    • @boyblunder8889

      It works better IMHO , tried it this morning, works perfectly, it’s just the kind of surface the rollers need. Electrical tape wins for efficiency and speed , no printing anything and fits all spools 👍

    I just gave up on rings entirely and ended up re-spooling them on printable spools.

      @@nonam3007 cardboard spools flex too much in the x1 and cause the AMS to be unable to spin them reliably. the walls flex and buckle and the spool flops all around and lifts off the rollers. the rings don't help. spools need to be stiffer plastic to be reliable in the AMS.

    If you get the poly maker printable spool ring on printables or their site. You’ll notice that pill shaped whole there ring has a button that fits in that whole.

    I have a ring on mine, but it seems it's too slick as the rollers spin but not the spool.

  • @1uvakindfpv
    @1uvakindfpv 4 месяца назад

    I'm guessing those rings are one time use? The problem is I have different sized spools, not every manufacturer makes the same circumference spool.

    I printed these and I'm having the same issue still. AMS had issues retracting and ended up being spaghetti in my AMS. I'm going to try electrical tape.

      @@ChenteChaks yup. Works great. For Polymaker I started printing my own reusable spools and re-spooling them because the cardboard they make is so flimsy that it warps after a while.

    Interesting that you tried TPU. Did you use a model designed for tpu or did you just print a standard model in tpu? I was thinking of developing a model specifically for tpu. Seems to me it should work but it has to be very undersized. It stretches a lot, but it’s indestructible.

    • @aonomus
      @aonomus  5 месяцев назад

      I tried the standard model but shrunken down. The issue is that no matter how thin you make it, as soon as the spool gets light enough and gets pushed upwards into the lid, the large contact patch acts like a brake and causes a filament retraction error pausing the print.

    You need to occupy your whole printer for each of those rings you are going to print, why dont you just use the blue painterstape as everyone else?

    This is waste of time. I use many of the cardboard spool filaments on my P1P. You don"t need to transfer it to Bambu lab spool or print the liner. I just use the 10mm electrical insulation tape around the cardboard spool on both sides. It works fine without any problem, and rolls better.

    It's a shame that we have to respool or apply such fix because of these stupid cardboard spools. they could have at least applied some glue/silicon on the spool border to prevent dust.
