- For Hanukkah we are releasing a pairing of songs written by the great Woody Guthrie. Woody moved to Coney Island in 1942 and spent much of his time learning from and collaborating with his Jewish mother in law and yiddish poet Aliza Greenblatt. He identified with the stories and hardships of the Jewish people inspiring him to write these unique and powerful poems and songs. Though these works and Jewish writings were little known at the time, their rediscovery by his daughter Nora Guthrie paints a fuller picture of Woody as a writer, social activist, and humanitarian.
This video was recorded and filmed in the quiet Chapel at Beth Elohim in Park Slope Brooklyn with Nefesh Mountain founders, and husband and wife, Eric Lindberg and Doni Zasloff, with Alan Grubner on Violin and Tim Kiah on Bass.

Hanuka candlelight, see my flame
Shining on my window’s pane;
Come flicker ‘cross my glassy glass

My light of Hanuka shines your way
To ask you in to rest a day.
Hanuka candle dances warm
To help you weather your heavy storm;
Shines like my lighthouse light this night
To bring your worried soul my light
Now as I light my first and my last
Of all nine candles to guide you past
Through these winds of blowing snows
To take you to your Hanuka home.
If you don’t wish to stop inside;
Too bashful proud, or afraid of pride,
I’ll send my beam to light your dream
Under your snow, where my newgrass hides.

Brilliant song, another stunning arrangement, and soulful performance.
These two by Woody Guthrie are simply out of this world. First-class musicianship, seasoned with a deep and abiding faith. I'm not Jewish but embrace the spirit and love; can't wait to play "The Hanukkah Dance" for my two year olds at school. Are these recorded anywhere, so that I could get copies of them?
