These idents are amazing, and take me right back to my childhood. I remember being sorely disappointed with the rebrand when it virtually changed overnight.
I remember when they had their "design an ident" competition in 1998. I still think my idea deserved to win (though I am biased of course ;)) but they never even showed my entry on air :( The one that did win (which had an octopus) was pretty much the only entry they showed that could actually have been used as a 1997-2001 ident, all the others were similar to the 1994-97 ones, with the CBBC logo somehow incorporated into the animation.
These remind of the MTV-type idents from the same sort of era. This was when idents were fresh and interesting, rather than this sort of clean, modern, boring type stuff we have now.
I concur with what you said about CITV. You remember Albert Einstein; he was in the MIDDLE of making a time machine but why didn't he complete it in the END? That would be the ONLY way we could go back to when we had all these idents until October 1997 AND, at the SAME time, when CITV was MUCH better than it is NOW.
Something certianly was lost after the move to Pres A. Though I do like the Pres A stuff from before the full-time move there, they do have a different feel to the stuff that came out of there after 1994. The broomcupboard was always quite personal, and of course the presenter did a lot of the stuff themselves. You just don't get that feel now from anything.
There'll just have to be someone as intelligent as Albert Einstein so that we can have a time machine and go back to when we had these BRILLIANT idents. Stephen Hawking only CLAIMS to be a genius like Albert Einstein.
Can someone help me there was programme on around this time on CBBC1 Scotland presented by Grant Scott and Gail Porter in was in the morning Bananaman was always on before it and does anyone remember Up For It shown during the summer only in Scotland on CBBC2 Scotland
Great compilation, but I have to say this era became a bit tiresome after a while as some of the idents were incredibly random - like the one at 2.05 where the name is barely there! Interesting to see the old 1993 breakfast show ident recycled at 2.17, never seen that one before. And at 1.12 the winner of the "compose a theme tune" competition which they rather copped out on and played at the start of the afternoon only!

Unfortunate when THAT ident had to go in October 1997.
