I watched your 4 year old video after I broke off the VST filter nipple trying to cut off the oetiker clamp. Sure wish I would have watched this first, because just like you said I am VERY ANGRY at myself because now I have to buy a new VST. Thanks for your video anyway which helped me learn a lot more about the VST.
I'm having mid-range throttle issues... very rough running at mid-throttle. Cranks perfectly, idles nice and WOT no issues (at least that I can tell). I was told this pump was my issue from a service desk while I was attempting to purchase a fuel-water separator for my E-Tec. Quoted $533.00 for part and $125 installation. Thank you for the video. I am comfortable now to dive into my pump. All I need to see now is how to get the pump removed.
Awesome video, very through. One of my fuel lines rotted out, so I replaced them all. Motor is still not working right. It starves it’s self for gas and I turn it off cause I’m worried about damaging it. I was told to clean this tank cause there maybe debris in it from the rubber hose.
250 etec here that is leaving gas or oil slick on the top of the water and rough right of idle then stalls. Sounds to be starving for fuel starts then stalls out. Changed vst filter already. Gas seems to be coming out the lower unit somewhere but I can 't pinpoint and its not a huge amount. I collected the water that is dripping off the lower unit when trimmed up, in a water bottle and cant see any gas in it so its a small amount but definitely leaves a sheen on the water behind me. new plugs, new fuel filters, vst filter, solenoid, starter, and battery. I was thinking bad gas was culprit as it sat for months with stabilizer in it but the gas/oil in the water I'm not sure how. Starts but runs like crap and quits.
Hi, i recently bought an E-tec 40hp non runner and traced it to the plastic barb with the gauze in it snapped clean on off and inside fuel line. I have replaced it with a brass barb tapped and screwed in an sealed with marine epoxy glue. Seems to run ok but i know dont have a filter inside, will this be an issue lol ng term? Thanks
I bought a E-tec 115 with issues and i knew it. The high pressure pump was broke so changed that. Got alarm 38 bad oil pressure, made shure there were no air in the oil circuit. Got rid of that alarm. Now it runns great at land. No faults in the diagnostic program. Runs great. Put it in water and ir runs like shit. " problems. I get the oil alarm back after a while. It seams as it does not get fuel as it should either. Cant find any leaks on hoses and so on. everytime it stalles and stoppes i have to pump the primepump like crazy to get it started again. Also helps to tilt it upp. Checked the fuel circuit. No problem until the VST. There is a check valve inside the VST and i feel it needs a tremendous pressure to release. Have hard to bellive the stage one pump can manage to do that? The VST is like brand new but my thinking is that the check valve is to hard for the stage one pump to release from its seat and when i push like crazy on the prime pump i manage to releas it. But the bulb is in this stage very hard, have to press hard to get the fule in. I wonder if anyone else have had this problem? There is a spring and it is not very hard but it is like when the valve is in closed position the oring on the valve seats so good that it needs to mutch pressure to get it to lose grip from the seat.? Edit it was the only part you did not check in the vid :)
Oil alarms are a hard one to track down.A pin hole leak can lower pressure enough to where your not getting proper pulses. I would run a separate line to your oil tank.
@@marinemodscom It is a bit hard to do when the engine stalls bco, that it doesn,t get fuel. I can fix the oil issue since there are alot to go on there but the reason to why it dosn't get fuel as it should is more confusing. I will check it myself. It seams the o-ring on the check valve get like stuck and needs a abnormal high pressure to open the valve. Much higher than the spring makes. If this is true it explains a lot of issues many other have that i have read about. A check valve is not supposed to work like that. It shall stop the flow in one direction and alow it in the other, without any need for high pressure. As i said, i will check it myself. The sad thing is that the summer is real short here so i have not al the time in the world. Soon the season is over but i hope to get this engine fixed so it will be OK for the next season. Now i have changed from my working Yamaha 90 to this one on the boat so i wont give up. It shall be fixed :) BR // 7ann3
Very hard to find since they introduced the new pump. Best to buy up old VST pumps that are serviceable. If you remove it intact, low pressure air should get you going.
part # 0354190 from shop.evinrude.com but oddly the diagrams do not show this part until 2011. I ordered one for the 2011 and it fits my 2007 perfectly - they are the same - must be a glitch that for 5 years the parts diagrams do not show this part but it is there.
Great video. My VST is hissing like a snake after i changed the on board engine fuel filter. I think i didnt put enough fuel in the filter to prime before i put the new one on. Started hissing right away, Did i damage the VST by running it dry? Could i have a air bubble issue? How would i trouble shoot this without taking the whole thing off?
I had same issue - removed the hose from VST filter return side and there was a lot of air pressure but no fuel. could have burned out the fuel pump running it dry. check the volts going into the fuel pump (12v when not starting) and if you get some volts, then could either be fuel lift pump or main fuel pump on VST. i'm guessing my fuel pump is dead from clogged VST (just bought this boat so I didn't run it like this)
So I went to my dealer n I was told my there was no pressure coming from the pump and I would need a new vst but I did this tear down and everything looked good and I even connecting my HPFP to battery to see if it work n it was good also? Is the dealer trying play me or is there something I’m missing ???
The tank on my E300DPXSCS has a crack by the upper water inlet. The carter number is gone , do you know If I can just get a new tank and what number it is? Thank you

Had an issue with my 200 ficht over the weekend..ran good all morning, got to another fishing spot and she wouldn't turn on. Pump wouldn't kick on... ended up draining the VST while on the water. Would you think it's the float in the VST getting stuck ? Also, where did you find the lower vst filter screen replacement?
Absolutely can - but typically you will receive a warning if their are issues. You need to arm yourself with the diagnostic cable and software which is readily available on ebay etc..
Sir. I have that vst pump on a 2012 ETEC 90 HP E90DPLINC, AND hit bottom like i have before only this time the lower part of the pump that you disconnected from the coil, cracked enough to spew gas...DO YOU HAVE TO BUY THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. IS IT POSSIBLE TO JUST GET THE BOTTOM PART? OR AFTER 7 YEARS IS IT WORTH REPLACING? Marina quote is 299 for vst and 150 labor?
You have probably already bought a new one but this can be repaired. You have to drill a 1/16 inch hole at the end of the crack heat a flat screwdriver with a torch kep the flam away especially if it isn't completely dry. Then melt the slit slowly drag excess material in to fill the crack.
Nice vid! Question hopefully you can help me out here I have a 1999 ficht 200 hrp that has 20 psi at idle and gradually drops to zero if you rev the engine while in neutral engine stalls out. What could that be would I need a 700$ electric fuel tank assm?
I could not find the pump as a separate spare. I ordered a pump for a older ficht (like 99) since it seams to be the same. Only another kabel connector and it has no pressure measure schrader on top. @@marinemodscom The ecu was tested on another engine and it came out fine. Could there be a short circuit in the throttle circuit or there is a thermal before the fuel pump, could an output like this be stuck in these engines..

always test on an external tank to rule out your fuel lines or fuel tank or water separator
