Hard to imagine Karue's forehand improving, but growth is possible. Can only imagine the pace necessary to keep opponents on back foot while playing for UCLA, one of the best D1 teams ever.
Your videos are amazing Karue.I wish you were around in my younger days, but there was no you tube then! I am playing my best tennis at 59, and your match tips have been invaluable.
my jaw dropped as soon as you that shot at 1:00 lol But awesome tips. I just realized I always try to go for a flat shot with less margin when I go down the line
Hah. You are too good, made it look easy. Your partner is good too. it balances out. The point is that you (the player) must have a somewhat good backhand to take full advantage of this shot. The tip about being balance and leaning forward to hit this shot is very important. When I was off balance or moving backward, my down-the-line is either short or floating out. Hitting loopy ball is easy, placing it deep and accurately require some technique. Thanks. subscribed.
Great video. Can you please also cover how to actually redirect the ball? Should we be trying to make contact earlier or later than the typical cross-court? I personally find it really hard to redirect the angle - especially when the ball jams me up right in the middle of my body
Same happens to me, but more in incoming inside out balls where I want to go down the line (on the ad side, me being a righty). What seems to be the key is ball spacing, not allowing to be jammed. For the balls as in the video, it works for me hitting a little later but pocketing the ball, hitting it in the outter part, lets say at 5 o clock. It's been 4 momths since the comment so probably you've already figured it out ✌️
Great lesson. I think this would be very effective against a player with a single handed backhand. Since I have a double hander, I am always looking for ways to switch up forehand crosscourt rallies into high backhand rallies. A high forehand down the line would allow me to take the initiative.
Hey Karue! Any ideas for any improvements that the governing bodies of Tennis (USTA, ATP, WTA, ITF) could AND should make for the sport moving forward? Possible video topic? I'd love to hear your take on the current state of Tennis and what you'd like to see in the future for the sport.
nope not really unless you are leaving those shots short and the ball is just sitting for your opponent to attack. As long as it's pushing them back you are good
Can you please make a video about the different in level between ranking sections from you perspective . What I mean by ranking section for example players ranked between 900-700 , 600-450 , 400-250 , 250-150 , 150-100,100-75,75-50 and then the top guys . It doesn’t have to be that specific
@@vladimirgetselevich4704 I think you can find articles about that or at least about usta ranking system. But I would love if he makes a video about the video I requested because Wimbledon qualifications are happening and I watched players some ranked around the 300 mark and they look ridiculously good and I was really shocked
Top 3 mistakes 1. No Ready Position 2. No Split Step 3. Not ready to swing before the ball bounces/No target choice made before ball comes across the net 😁
For me it is much easier to create high jumping loopy shots and much more difficult to flatten the trajectory of the ball. Why is that? Is that related to some basic deficiencies in technique?
Just a question though, are you leaving yourself vulnerable to the wide back hand shot? You were almost at the sideline when you hit that down the line shot. Or maybe it is smart to slow that ball down so you have time to get back in position left of center? I'm just thinking of basic defensive strategy, that would say don't change direction unless opponent's ball lands left of your body. That of course gives you less court to cover if you do it that way. Also, I'm not a high level player like you, can't hit nearly that hard, and I rely on a heavy spin forehand, not the backhand. Is this shot good then only if you're a high level player and favor the backhand?
Depends on the situation but this is a tactic for righties. Lefties live and die with heavy cross courts to the backhand, it is the simplest tactic in tennis
Yes and no. Ideally that's the play but lefties play righties all the time so they are typically able to get out of that patter by going line. Still a good shot tho, just depends on the situation. High heavy to the backhand is always a good play
At the 4.0 level I run across players that in the middle of a rally will punch these low, flat balls that bounce just past the service line. I have trouble anticipating them, and can't really hit a good offensive, defensive or even neutral shot. I know the best thing is to not allow them to sneak these in in the first place, but WHAT NOW? They really piss me off.
Hey Karue, it would be nice to do a segment when one of the players is a lefty, so the required shot would be a high angled backhand to the righty's backhand. Since, for most players, the backhand has less top than the forehand, some words of wisdom about this situation would be great. Thanks.
Question ( for 11 year old high performance kid) -- how to teach him shot prediction before the ball reaches the net from opponent's racquet. Shot prediction means - depth
Another question - how much it will work in competitive set up (not in club amateurs). I ll be doing drill with my son 3 cross courts one down the line high heavy this week. Just want to know if he can use this on consistent basis in tournament (national selections) next month.
I tried this but against a really good player hitting a heavy, wide ball, I am having a tough time controlling the shot. I end up hitting long or wide a lot vs hitting through the middle of the court.
Boa Karue.
great video! As someone that enjoys many of your videos I wanted to point out something that might rub some people (including myself) the wrong way sometimes. I notice you tend to use the phrase "amateur" or "you amateurs" when describing rec players or club players. Which I take you mean as "non professional" players. Which is a totally appropriate use of the word. However, as you know, amateur can have a negative connotation, eg it may sound like "here is what you noobs are doing wrong." I know you don't mean it like that but that is the gut reaction that I hear when you say that. Nick from intuitive tennis for example uses "recreational players." Again, great channel, great content, do with this comment what you will. I have just thought this enough times when watching your videos I felt like I wanted to point it out
Hahah makes sense! But I think since the word “amateurs” hits harder (I never say it in a negative connotation) it is easier to remember when you do end up those amateur mistakes. I still make those as well so I like to use that emotion to help me level up. I get your point tho

Kudos to your hitting partner who always achieves what you ask for with minimal mistakes.
0:59 That was awesome 😄 that was so clean, probably one of the best forehands hit that day in the world!
I love your forehand Karue. I think it's improved alot in the past couple of years
Agree 💪🎾

Muito obrigado. Direita melhorou bastante sim. Eu aprendo com meus próprios vídeos 😂
Just tried this in free practice. It feels unreasonable how effective this shot is.
Great tip! I feel like that down the line is often misunderstood. Very few can smack that down-the-line forehand shot like Delpo.
your teachings and lessons are simply the best i have seen. U teach it from a players perspective..bravo!!
Good video! Nice to be so awesome you can demonstrate.
Great breakdown. I love to use this shot to keep my opponents off guard. The 1st forehand was so sweet hahah.

Mind bending shots,,, easy for you young man 😀
Anything for old man like me?!
😃😃😃😃
Yes, another one!
7:41 - Extra low to high
8:06 - Leg drive up and forward , not back
8:54 - Preferred on the open stance
Thanks excellent coaching, I need to try this when I'm next on court :)
Thank you!
Tqvm Sir🎾
I love hitting this shot
thanks
A+ video
Your tennis is so elegant dude
In part 3, how to deal with the deep high ball down the line. 🍺
Part 4 how to deal with a deep high pint of cold beer 🍺
Can you make a simple video about string tension and string types by level of player and power vs control and feel?
what do you use for strings and what tension on your vcore?
Much appreciated
Is it like some kind of semi- topspin lob?
Good win for Giron today

Hi,
Thanks for the info! I am unable to download the guide. When I put my information, nothing happens.

Is the racket yonex ?? specs pls ?
Hi Karue love the channel, can I ask you what brand of camera do you use? Do you use a go pro?

Is it something to consider as a left-hander ?
Karue, can you play a match with Grant Vanderhayden?
Awesome video Karue! Are there any dangers in overhitting this shot? I.e. Are there any dangers in mostly hitting high and heavy?
nope not really unless you are leaving those shots short and the ball is just sitting for your opponent to attack. As long as it's pushing them back you are good

My favorite shots are the high forehand and backhand down the line.
Doesn’t matter if you are left or right handed, deep balls with heavy top spin will give people fits. That and angled shots.
Make same video for doubles
Follow this shot up to the net? Look to close with a volley?

All of that will be covered on part 2
Nice video. As a lefty who plays only righties I use my DTL BH all the time to change directions and go to a CC FH to opponent's BH.
good stuff, karue! this will be great for annoying my wife the next time we hit ;) ! she hates hitting backhands!!!!
What about for us lefties? Does this works the same ? Going to the righties forehand?
Depends on the situation but this is a tactic for righties. Lefties live and die with heavy cross courts to the backhand, it is the simplest tactic in tennis
What about against a lefty, high ball crosscourt to their BH? Then cover the forehand side?
Yes and no. Ideally that's the play but lefties play righties all the time so they are typically able to get out of that patter by going line. Still a good shot tho, just depends on the situation. High heavy to the backhand is always a good play
@@Karue-Sell I play mostly a left hander and he hits a OHBH, so I usually always hit high balls to his BH...but down the line would be even better
Do NOT try this against NADAL 😭
Did you give up on the Delpo forehand? Looks like you’re still using your normal forehand stroke

I tried this shot tonight with my hitting partner. I came up with about 15/20 of them being clean winners on the follow up. This is hacking tennis.
It's about 3x the net height over the net. Is this a "moon ball" ? Or just normal healthy top spin clearance? Rec guys think it's a moonball
No it is not a moon ball.. it is far from it. And if that’s their excuse to why they lost, then you know what to do to beat them
I tried this but against a really good player hitting a heavy, wide ball, I am having a tough time controlling the shot. I end up hitting long or wide a lot vs hitting through the middle of the court.

The rule of 2-3....hit 2-3 time to your enemy then let him make to mistake and after that put the ball away if you are in good position to do so.
Ok
