  • A 16 year old Rocket League prodigy from France, named Zen, recently had his RLCS debut and put on one of the best rookie performances ever seen in the RLCS. This is the story of how Zen got there and turned Vitality back into a championship winning team again.

Zen is already widely considered the most mechanical Rocket League player in the world, and to many, the best player in the world. It sounds far fetched but his performance justifies those claims. Zen is an anomaly above the rest of the entire pro scene. His mechanics and mind for the game is on a whole other playing field. Even though he just began competing in RLCS, it's safe to say that he's not going anywhere. Zen will continue to be talked about as one of the best pros in the RLCS for a very long time.

i think that Zen is beginning to show us how important it is to set up some plays to bounce and read the ball off the ceiling. He had so many shots where the opponents couldn't read his play because of the crazy fast ceiling read he does. This could be a glimpse into what the meta is shifting towards? I mean, look at Optic Retals recent 0 second shot vs. G2 in the Spring Invitational. Thoughts?

One thing I wished you would’ve mentioned was his unique bindings. He uses L2 for air roll left, which allows him to control how fast he rolls depending on how hard he presses the trigger. It also allows him to press it lightly and still air roll left without flipping when he uses his second jump. No idea how nobody has thought to do it before him, but a ton of pros are starting to copy it.

Right there with you. I pushed Counter-Strike competitively pretty hard as a young teenager, but getting close to 30 and just dont have the time/energy anymore to hang in the competitive scene. I hop on every 6 months or so for a week and I can still get back to champ 2, but it will always be my ceiling because I don’t have the time to put into learning the newer mechanics.

I am amazed that I predicted back in 2021 after watching Zen that he was an absolute player to watch, but I could not have truely predicted him becoming essentially the best Rocket League player in the history of the game. He is amazingly consistent in 1’s, 2’s and 3’s, has won his first three RLCS debuts and amassed such a following that has not been seen since Justin scored his (then) insane famous goal. I have to agree with Wayton on this one and will certainly echo the sentiment that Zen does indeed deserve his own tier of player skill level. He has, without a doubt, set the bar for the game. I can’t say much else except that I am keen to watch him play and perform in the future.

In France we predicted that as soon as we started to see him in every pros ranked games and clipping them one by one. I remember when I was on Kaydop's streams and Zen connecting to the game and Kaydop was like "Ok I need to be careful I don't want to get double reseted by a 14yo kid" and all the chat already knowing his name and knowing he was dangerous. But just like you, no one could've ever predict he would become (in his first split) such a top tier player already making himself a legend.

@@LachesisMuta8 It is phenomenal, really! This is what Rocket League is all about. I can see why people joke about Zen being the only player who can smurf in a pro lobby haha!
