  • Complete step by step process to how I build my home made surfboards. After checking out the Pyzel Red Tiger at 2023 Camp Shred in Encinitas, I knew I had to make one for myself. I dub my version of this board the Teal Tapir. This video takes you through each step in the process with detailed explanations.

Yes I talk in this build video, so please let me know if you like this style of video, or if I should go back to the soothing hyperlap format of my previous surfboard build videos.
I use Shape3D to design my boards. There are other popular surfboard CAD packages out there such as BoardCAD and AKUshaper.
This is also the first video that I use the Futures One Pass Fin Jig, instead of my previous Greenlight Surf Supply Futures Fin Jig. I also use products from Shapersupply and FoamEZ. To color the board I use Montana Paints water based spray paint. To complete this board I put on a Cork Traction pad from our friends over at Timersufco.com based out of Santa Cruz (no sponsorship or paid promotion, I like what they are doing over there, I like the cork traction pad, and I paid for it myself).

    Wow Really nice !
Would you recommand spray paint for a first board ? I would like to start with the easier way but do not want a white board... this technique seems easier than pigment on the resin

Thanks for checking it out. Paint vs resin tint depends on what type of look you are going for. Paint is definitely easier to get a clean finish on and makes glassing easier. Downside is that water based spray paint is expensive compared to resin tints. I started my color journey with resin tints, if you check my other videos there's a number of examples. Also, if you are using an EPS blank, test the paint on some scrap styrofoam first to make sure there is nothing else in the can that will eat your foam.
