- I play a Magic the Gathering Online Legacy league with Jeskai Stoneblade, a deck from Patreon subscriber Diz. Murders at Karlov Manor is out and that means Cryptic Coat is available to play with! This is a new equipment does multiple cool things: It's easy to cast without Stoneforge Mystic, it generates card advantage on its own, and it's blue for Force of Will! The interaction between cryptic coat and stoneforge mystic was something I hadn't even considered. Having something you can tutor, drop at instant speed and which then semi-protects itself seems pretty powerful. Plus, unlike the other equipment, this one is very castable on it's own as well.
I got into legacy on mtgo from your videos and this deck looks like a banger. Might have to change my jeskai list with comet to this and see how it feels

The Containment Priest/Coat interaction is pretty tough. As for ways to get around that interaction, I think you’re gonna get gimped by it with anything that tags Zenith. Soulless Jailer is a card I reach for regularly in Pioneer which gets around the Coat problem. That’s my suggestion if you want something that doesn’t nonbo, but it might be fine to just bet it’s worse for them than for you.

Gideon Ally of Zendikar I think might be a card to try. A card that can grow you coat, make blockers, or a 5/5 beat down seems like it fits the foot forward style plan.
Watching Mississippi River get obliterated by Damping Sphere was deeply satisfying.

Grafdigger's Cage still nonbo's with Cryptic Cloak I believe, since the Manifest is entering from the library. It just looks like it's probably one of those spots where you just have to deal with a sideboard slot being a minus with 2/60 cards of your deck, which isn't a huge loss compared to how well it deals with others.

When discussing the things Teferi can do at 41:42, isn't one of the things you can do bounce the Cryptic Coat token to get the Path to Exile? Apologies if this line comes up later, but it was one of the coolest things I started thinking about when I saw these Stoneblade lists with Cryptic Coat.
You’d bounce the creature, not the coat but yeah that’s a cool trick!
@@BoshNRoll yeah, I should have been clearer- when I said “cryptic coat token” I meant the token that the coat created on etb. The card definitely does a lot of cool little things and is better than I initially thought!
Aspiring Spike discovered this trick on live stream first outing with StoneCloak, it's really spicy and strong when you bounce the Cloaked non-creature spell to your hand and cast it.
Flicker effects also return the cloaked permanent into play. Best play I have done so far is attack with a 3/2 unblockable and then ephemerate and surprise with a Kalrda on blocking duty.

I actually kind of like Containment Priest in the Moon Stompy matchups.
It can contest the iniative, trades with Rabblemaster, and blanks the last chapter of Fable.

I feel like coat gets a lot better if you can leave the mana up to bounce it; it's not just an engine, it's an engine that protects itself! (COAT: Coolest Of All Time)

Probably Stoneforge has the best meta tools right now. I would probably not include Mentor in that build since they want different things in deckbuilding.

Why no ephemerate to flicker disguised Teferis, Btb's, Kaldras and stuff, if I may ask? It's been useful for Solitude/Stoneforge anyway. You can even get both Flicker effects out of it, whenever sfm stays on the field and is able to flash the coat back in during your upkeep. (And it's superstrong with coated high mana value permanents in theory as well.)
Because you only get 60 spots on a deck and imagining situations where a card could be cool ignores all the spots it would be bad and you have to use your limited slots to minimize bad situations rather than maximize nut draws.

ruclips.net/video/QbukWfO4hFc/видео.html I think the reason they chose to Abrupt decay your coat is because you were tapped out. Once you untap with coat you can leave up 2 activations to return it to your hand. It was either Abrupt decay then or probably never.
@14:30 how did they fatal push the true-name?
TNN entered the battlefield with a Dress Down in play, which means that its "as it enters the battlefield" ability was removed and Bosh wasn't able to choose TheMouth for that ability. This meant TNN had no protection from anything and could be Pushed
Cavern of Souls with Blood Moon has a similar effect. If Cavern is played while BM is in play, you don't get to name a creature type, because mountains don't name creature types when they enter the battlefield
It was dressed down, so it never got to pick someone to have protection from.

WTF was that round 5 deck??? Lmao
I still don't know why wotc prints cascade on cards still and hasn't just banned it from all formats. It will never be used fairly and is absolutely devastating when used unfairly so like why even bother trying to balance a mechanic like that. They learned from storm yet somehow mindwipe themselves everytime they print a mechanic that works like cascade.
Edit: damn just watching that damping sphere hit the table just put me in my place. Did not expect the video in real time to make the best damn counterpoint.
Bloodbraid Elf was played fairly in Jund in Modern
