Tbh, I'm going to grab this for my archive library in case of RUclips shenanigans, since these tend to disappear. Appreciate the effort. These will definitely fill some gaps in my collection.
1:45 Didn't like the vampire films there, guys? Love at First Bite was great! George Hamilton is playing it pretty straight but he can certainly play out a good line. "Children of the Night! Shut up!!" Certainly better than Dead and Loving It! And In Search of Dracula is pretty much held together by Christopher Lee, but it's kinda fun. It's just really cheap, and Lee really deserves better. We do get to see him play the historical Dracula, which he always wanted to do anyway. I think you guys just didn't give them enough credit.
Boy, I miss these guys. Although I remember disagreeing with Gene when he designated “Videodrome” as dog of the week. And I thought he was dead wrong calling Travis Bickle a creep. Bickle was anything but.
Ebert and Siskel didn't know David Cronenberg made The Brood as a revenge for all the psychological tortures his crazy ex-wife did to him and his daughter. Is a movie that came from his deepest hate, maybe his most personal movie
Only the US theatrical release had the warning bell gimmick. It was a Canadian film that American International acquired for US release and it was they who added it as a gimmick in order to sell it as a William Castle-style horror movie. Tubi's print was sourced from the Shout Factory DVD, which used the original version without the bell/horns.
The Passage is a non-stop action movie, I don't get why they used only this scenes. And Anthony Quinn didn't play a french guy, but spanish. Siskel didn't watch the movie.
Yes, the latter film's director went on to make movies like GHOSTBUSTERS, TWINS and KINDERGARTEN COP. Which must explain the sound effects Ebert was lampooning in his review of CANNIBAL GIRLS.
@@jessecoffey4737 Reitman was already a big name producing National Lampoon's Animal House a year earlier. At that point he made a big star out of Bill Murray with a Canadian cheapie called Meatballs.
I...kinda agree with them about it. I remember when I first saw it, I was kind of excited because I heard it was a classic. It didn’t work for me at all though…🤔🤷🏻♂️
The Brood is not an easy watch, sure, but it was an affecting, emotional-draining film that I think is a much better film about parental custody battles than the Oscar-baity Kramer vs. Kramer. David Cronenberg himself criticized the latter for feeling inauthentic.
Bruce Lee clones where a bizarre craze in the 70's and 80's. "Love at First Bite", Gene, where's your sense of humor!?! It was no "Young Frankenstein", but it was one of the better vampire comedies out there. "In Search of Dracula" got aired a lot on UHF stations when they had nothing better to show. Didn't know there was a "Beyond the Door 2". The makers of the original got sued for ripping off "The Exorcist". "Circle of Iron", gosh, looks like David Caradine never got over "Kung Fu" being canceled. "Firepower"-Sophia Loren must have been desperate for the pay check. "Cannibal Girls" has a very generic title, like it tells the whole plot. "Get Mean" sounds pretty ridiculous. "The Great Bank Hoax", well there was the "Great Train Robbery", so they decided to rip off the title. "The Brood" is probably my least favorite David Cronenberg movie, but it's not a bad movie. Both critics would say kinder things about his movies over the years, Gene even listed "The Fly" as one of the best movies of 1986. Never seen "The Passage", but yes, Anthony Quinn has seen better days.
Beyond the Door 2 is actually Shock, by Mario Bava. Mario Bava is a genius, incapable of making a "dog." They got that one flat-out wrong. Circle of Iron is odd, but far from bad.
These guys were insane! The Brood is awesome! Sometimes Siskel and Ebert, as much as I enjoyed their show growing up, come across as insufferable blowhards!
6:29 not often you hear Gene Siskel laughing his head off, and ya gotta laugh with him.
08:55 "Easy, easy, must have just seen Battlestar Galactica." I died laughing, these guys were awesome.
I am loving these so much. Thank you.
Me too.
Same here.
Me too lol. I've been watching 8 or 9 of these in a row the past few days :)
Me too...therapy for me
"And I knows dey keep dat snake pearl hidden dere . . . "
That line sounds like it came from a minstrel show, not a kung-fu movie.
Tbh, I'm going to grab this for my archive library in case of RUclips shenanigans, since these tend to disappear. Appreciate the effort. These will definitely fill some gaps in my collection.
10:20 Siskel invents a prototype of MST3K-style commentary. The man was a pioneer of snark.
Agreed ❤
Miss this show so much.
Same here!
Love at First Bite (1979) is a classic
It's still funny
Rarely have I seen the guys so giggly - especially Gene... And good for them. Who wouldn't desire more of such for themselves?...
I've said it before but thanks so much for posting these. So nice visiting with old friends.

A shot of the mountain! :)
And people looking... at the mountain
I like THE BROOD. An underrated David Cronenberg film.
S&E seem biased against films depicting gore
Yeah, but Ebert did have a point: the husband really wasn't that bright.
Boy, I miss these guys.
Although I remember disagreeing with Gene when he designated “Videodrome” as dog of the week.
And I thought he was dead wrong calling Travis Bickle a creep.
Bickle was anything but.
It was released in 1983 so it was a stinker
Ebert and Siskel didn't know David Cronenberg made The Brood as a revenge for all the psychological tortures his crazy ex-wife did to him and his daughter. Is a movie that came from his deepest hate, maybe his most personal movie
Love at First Bite was a great movie.
Yea on a rainy boring day...other than that...meh
I think it was a box office hit
Hey, "Love at First Bite" was FUNNY! George Hamilton was also very funny in "Zorro, the Gay Blade" (1981).
Yep. Same movie Bruce Wayne and his parents pass by at the end of "Joker"
Absolutely
I love Spot.
Hilarious! I am loving these too!
The Brood? A dog of the week? oh no no no no no
How about Gene picking Love at First Bite? That movie is HILARIOUS!
6:28 Makes for a good laugh.
Clearly these guys loved this segment, and I sure did too. Spot is super-cute, and I'm not even a fan of small dogs.
Love at First Bite was good and funny.
I watched Cannibal Girls last night (it;s on Tubi). There was no horn or bell udring the "gore" scenes. Maybe it was a theatrical release thing.
It could be that the sounds were edited out later on.

I LOVE Love at first bite!
Me too
My favorite scenes is when the grandson of Van Helsing keeps trying to kill Dracula, but can’t do it right.
I wish Gene lived long enough to see Nigerian films.
Firepower is a watchable movie on a rainy day when you have nothing to do
That purple blazer made Roger look like a pimp 😂
😀😀😀
I dig Spot’s fancy collar ornament.
And what ever happened to his predecessor the friendly skunk?
To be fair, Get Mean is a GREAT title.
I love Circle of Iron.
Funny stuff. 😄
The Passage is a non-stop action movie, I don't get why they used only this scenes. And Anthony Quinn didn't play a french guy, but spanish. Siskel didn't watch the movie.
Siskel & Ebert were awesome.
I think Simpson was in Firepower. Interesting they didn't mention him. And as for Cannibal Girls, wasn't that by Ivan Reitman?
Yes, the latter film's director went on to make movies like GHOSTBUSTERS, TWINS and KINDERGARTEN COP. Which must explain the sound effects Ebert was lampooning in his review of CANNIBAL GIRLS.

How is the Brood on this list?!?
Criterion really should have put this as a special feature on their Brood release.
@@warrenjehosephat231 It wasn't freely available when they made it.
The Brood? Bad call back then guys!
I...kinda agree with them about it. I remember when I first saw it, I was kind of excited because I heard it was a classic. It didn’t work for me at all though…🤔🤷🏻♂️
0:48 dog is making faces!
Ebert didn't mention that Cannibal Girls is a comedy.

I wonder who's dog Spot was. Oh man....I actually didn't intend that to be a play on words, serious.
Spot seems like a good boy.
1:57--when was Dracula a "comic character"?
"Cannibal Girls" was 6 years old by this point. It's Ivan Reitman's first film and it's not that bad.
I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard that it cost Ivan Reitman the chance to direct a little movie called Animal House.
it's suppose to be a COMEDY/HORROR film. It's on Tubitv.
many of these dogs of the week movies can be seen on Tubitv!!!
@@orbison Actually he produced it. John Landis directed.
It’s quite awful. They used to play it all the time on Canadian TV and it’s extremely inept.
The brood good movie and love is first bite good movies❤

George Hamilton as Dracula but with his Killer Tan 🤨
The 1st two reviews are:
Kung-Fu Master
The Last Fist of Fury
Really, Love At First Bite?? That's a great movie!!
Cannibal Girls stars...wait...believe it or not...EUGENE LEVY and ANDREA MARTIN!!!!!
Love the old "dogs". They were hilarious. I strongly disagree with Gene on Love at First Bite. Cannibal Girls and The Passage were the funniest.
I agree about Love at First Bite. It wasn't a great movie, but it wasn't that bad.
@@mrnocal I haven't seen Love At First Bite but I heard that Gene Siskel gave it zero stars.
I didn't think it was that bad.
Love at First Bite was a hit at the box office. I thought it was OK, but not great. My dad loved it. Gene did give it zero stars in the Tribune.
Beyond the Door 2 is actually Shock, by Mario Bava. Mario Bava is a genius, incapable of making a "dog." They got that one flat-out wrong. Circle of Iron is odd, but far from bad.
Ebert liked Godfather 3 , i liked ebert, i respected ebert but i never trusted ebert!
The Brood the dog of the week? FFS Roger really missed the boat on this one. Early Cronenberg that’s one of his best.
No - this was a really bad movie
Been watching these dog compilations and making playlists of exploitation flicks I’ve yet to see. Idk why they hated them all, oh well!
Boo, Circle Of Iron and Firepower are enjoyable!
I haven't seen The Great Bank Hoax but any movie starring Burgess Meredith and Ned Beatty has got to be at least worth a watch.
The Brood? Love these guys but they were very reactionary when it came to horror movies.
I loved both of these men, but they could sometimes get it way wrong, and Gene is WAY wrong about Love at First Bite. That movie's a classic.
Tony Anthony!? Lmbo
The Brood 🤔
Most of these DOGS you can watch at TUBITV.COM!! YEA!!😁😁
