SimCopterX is a standalone program which patches SimCopter (various versions supported) so it can run natively on Windows 10 and prior. Additionally you can run SimCopter in higher resolutions and modern aspect ratios such as 16:9 and 16:10, the original "vanilla" game is still supported. SimCopterX is NOT a CPU Killer or an emulator of any sort.
This video just shows off some of my actual gameplay using SimCopterX Version 3 on SimCopter Classics edition.
Games like this are meant to ever go extinct. Thank you for keeping this project up.

I appreciate those kind words! SimCopter was truly something original and special, I've been finally able to sit down and enjoy the game again (21-23 years later granted!)

I'm not too active right now but I plan on getting a bit more active since patching old games is something a lot of people seem to appreciate. I'll be working on SimCopter for the next few months and then moving onto Streets of Sim City!

whoo hoo, just found out about this. i spent hours playing SimCopter back in the day, now i can play it again, if i have the correct version.
the version of SimCopter i have is whatever came in the Sim Mania pack which came with 6 games, each with their own CD, i need to dig it out of my box of software and see what version it is and hopefully is compatible.

Ah, the old "things explode every five minutes and you can't catch a break" cities with a lower polygon count for the entire city than Ant-Man's ant-ass in Endgame.
In other words, exactly the game I remember it being. Any chance of getting this bad boy on GOG? I still have my original copy around here, but I'll happily re-buy the game to support something like this!
Marxis was bought by Electronic Arts back in the day, so just like with all other studios EA bought the game is basically abandonware and floating around on the net.

Imagine if they would integrate all the services into the new cities skylines 2, that simcity had back then! It would definitely be time to develop a mod like simcopter.

I know there was a citycopter mod for cs1 but it was nothing compared to what simcopter had to offer
Tip: If the lights on buildings in and your chopper are the wrong color or you have other graphical issues, try creating a desktop shortcut to simcopter.exe, right click and go to properties, and add -g1 to the shortcut "target".
Example: "C:\Program Files\SIMCOPTER\SimCopter.exe" -g1

@@Layarion The game's readme file says: "-gn This sets 3D rendering cell size, from 1 - 4, with 4 being the default. What the heck? Basically, if you run with -g1, rendering will be better (fewer artifacts), but the game will use more much memory. You should have a 24MB or greater computer before you start messing with this."
Edit: Fun note, if you think 24 MB RAM sounds hilarious, the $1600 computer I purchased the year this game released (1996) came standard with 8 MB of RAM, and an 8 MB upgrade added an additional ~$100. :)

Heya, just stumbled over your patcher today. I get the problem that, after selecting the SimCopter.exe (which i moved from the CD to the SSD) for patching, it's says:
- "SimCopterX Error (5) -
- Failed to copy the original game from the source location to the SimCopterX directory." -
Any idea, what i'm doing wrong?

Seems a few people have this problem. You can try copying SimCopter.exe to C:\Program Files(x86)\SimCopterX folder (which should already exist). Let me know if that works.
Edit: It also appears the Discord link is working :(
how i can use this? i have the iso of games and installation fails on windows 10.
i have also patch 1.2 but i can't apply whitout the games installed.... how i can apply the current patch v16?
Not working for me. I can't find the option to mount the ISO file - my computer treats it like a zipped folder and doesn't display any mounting options. When I unzip the file, I can play SimCopter by double-clicking the .exe file, but it crashes constantly - a sign to me that the patch isn't applied. When I patch and install through SimCopterX, it reports that it worked, but the constant crashing remains. When I replace the .iso's SimCopter.exe file with the 1.2 version from the website, it doesn't let me play the game anymore - says that it can't find glide.dll.
Any help, anyone? I'm using Windows 11.
I've downloaded the game, but for some reason the patcher won't recognize the game and says that its missing autorun.inf. Any advice?
Sounds like you don't have the CD downloaded. You could just try patching the game by unticking "Verify install" - however if you're missing game files then it probably won't run after doing this. I'd make a backup of your SimCopter.exe prior to patching. Try getting ALL the CD files (or downloading).
How did you get this working? I can't install SimCopter on Windows 10, I just get a message saying it can't be installed on this computer, and I can't run it from disk, says it's missing a file.
Because he made a application to patch simcopter where it will work on Modern Hardware and even remove DRM from it so you won't need to use a CD anymore after installing it.
How do I kill or injure a sim by dropping them out? I do it and they always get up unharmed no matter what!?

@@alekasm0 It's just to bad the game is so unstable and the unrecoverable error pops up so much, but it's cool to play a game I played the demo of back in 1995...
The file was detected as a virus on virustotal...
Hey Peter! Unfortunately the patcher gets picked up as a "potententially unsafe program" by Windows Defender because its an unsigned executable file which requires elevated permissions on your computer. I've sent in a ticket to Microsoft. If you would like, you can take a look at the source code on my GitHub: github.com/alekasm/SimCopterX
In the meantime I'll try purchasing a code-signing certificate which should take care of the problem. It's a bit expensive but I think there's enough people interested in this project to warrant it.

There is a lot of software that will declare patches, no CD cracks, mods as "viruses." This guys files is clean 100%
its just a false positive.
I cant install the game..always says "program couldnt be run on win 10" when i hit the setup.exe.
You don't run the setup.exe, just extract the files from the CD onto your hard drive. After that launch SimCopterX and select the SimCopter.exe file. No installation is necessary, but keep the "Verify Install" checkbox selected in the SimCopterX program - this will make sure the necessary files exist.
@@alekasm0 Also tried that, when I then select the simcopter.exe in the launcher it says: Failed to copy original game from source location to the simcopterXdirectory.
I allready copied the 2 .dll files to windows/system maybe thats why it crashes idk.

Nevermind I got it to work..had to delete the simcopterx folder and voila. Thanks for your effort to make this piece of art playble again!
