I love how she does little vocal acrobatics with the lyrics. It took a while for me to realize what she was saying with the lyric "You can't break that which isn't yours." She combines the the ch from "which" with the "isn't" and it sounds almost like chisel. The allusions to the French and Bolshevik revolutions, the little snippets of Russian and French, the fun little plays with the singing, and the music... I love this song.
OMG chills down my spine when she starts singing in Russian. Even though I don't know what she is saying, the melodic quality of her voice so full of life
This song was the turning point for me. Heard Fidelity on some late night show and thought 'hey, what a cool little song'. Looked her up not expecting a big thing. Yowza!! She's a Beatle. Diverse. Simple. Complex. Catchy stuff, deep stuff. You can't put a genre on her. So refreshing. I can't stop praising her. I won't 😊
Her piano playing is amazing. Soft playing then hard then in-between. You can tell she' bleeding catharsis into the keys playing this. Oddly enough I discovered this beautiful song on a playlist for Boardwalk Empire.
At first I was confused by the weird noises she makes in this song, but the exact noises were the ones that made this song memorable for me. I still don't know why she does it, it reminds me of being in the ocean and getting water in your mouth and of the hiccups you get when you're drinking too much.
This wonderful song smells of Russian-Jewish nostalgia and depth, a world away from the (otherwise blessed) optimism and superficiality of the American life. I remember the minor diaspora of the 80's when the Jews from Soviet Union left, I deeply regret that Europe wasn't ready to relocate them. Hope that she will keep the feeling of belonging to another world.
I wish she sang in Russian more often.

16.02.24 звучит, как никогда. Будь проклят февраль.
World: Do you want to be a Russian folk artist, a pop queen, an experimental artist, or a blues singer?
I cryed when heard it on the radio. Silently, but really "navzryd". Thank you Regina!
