I look forward to and enjoy all your videos.. Elia is a great photographer, along with being a real and humble person. All these attributes come through clearly on his videos !!!!!
What a pleasure to watch. To see what you see when you are out taking photos. To see you interact with people. Much better than strait landscape or travel photos on other channels. And Flickr+Smugmug get it. Well done!
I found your channel by accident this week, and now i'm hooked and subscribed instantly :) I don't get it why you only have 37K subscribers. The production of your videos look very professional and you explain everything very well. Can't wait to see your videos about the beaufifull city of Prague. Keep up the good work.
Hey Robert, thanks for the compliment! TBH, prior to this series, I wasn't really posting anything to RUclips so nobody had much of a reason to subscribe. Now though, I'm very happy you found me. :)
Those Magic Hour House reflection was Jaw opening and eye popping out shot man... I never missed out our blog man.... Keeping doing it your inspiring Photographer .... Thank you sooo much ...
love your channel. never been here. one day hopefully. you would love prague for sure. getting up early to photography charles bridge was an amazing experience.
Fun fact about the stork above the door of the house at the canal you shot at. Before Napoleon became Emperor of also the Netherlands in the 1800s, we didn't have any housenumbers. Just street names. So people had to decorate their houses in their own way to make their houses recognizable. A lot of people did that in a personal way, showcasing their profession. At the house with the stork, a midwife lived and that's why the stork is there. Of course because there's the story that storks bring babies :)
Looking forward to Prague. I was there for a week or so in July. I have never been so sick of tourists in my life :P . I was in Paris, Provence, Prague and Munich in July and I think I will never travel to major cities in July again. It broke me.
Next time in the Netherlands don't miss Den Bosch. Just an hour's train ride from Amsterdam it is incredibly photogenic, with the most amazing underground boat canals. A photographer's dream, and a fairy tale city with a fun, wry sense of humor.
As usual the video is great and the very last part toward the end is really funny. I guess that only works in Amsterdam 😂 I looking for towards next Prague segment
Another amazing episode.... Your work is Fantabulous . Please keep it up on RUclips and upload more and more these type of videos and Please Make a video with CMOS SENSOR CAMERA.. loves from india.
Bum into your channel again. Like how you combine travelling with photography. Saw your photo trip to Malaysia earlier. I do the same. Go travelling, do photography, eat some local food and drink some wine. By the way, I am from Malaysia and travel very often for photography. Yes, always have a bottle of wine or whisky when doing photography. It really helps when you are waiting for the light.
Awesome to have had you in our country! Last month I sold my house in Amsterdam. Hopefully you had a good time outside of Amsterdam and Zaanse Schans, otherwise you know you have to come back sometime. :) I have been to Prague on a city trip some years ago, beautiful city!
Thanks Elia, I think you can add to your bucket list, the Basque Country. More specific Donostia / San Sebastian, I'm going to send in IG some picks, and you can decide later on. Thx for sharing, I keep learning, this is an school that never ends, Love it.
Awesome! Well worth waiting for thank you for mentioning in my last comment 😊 and the funniest bit was I was there for kings day as well 😂😂😂 your photography is outstanding and I enjoy your work! When will you be doing another photographing the world with Fstoppers again 👍
what a nice time you had in the netherlands. and especially made beautiful pictures, I have a question about that especially at the Zaanse Schans where you have photographed the mills in the fog. Your Institution did that Manual on M-mode or on A-Mode, because how do you know how to choose your correct Shutter Speed in a foggy day? I sometimes wonder that. I always set everything myself from white balance Kelvin colors to a self-chosen shutter speed .. you had different shutter speeds I saw in your settings 1 of 1.8 sec 1 of 1.9 sec 1 of 1.3 sec you choose it yourself or do you let it be your sony choose the correct shutter speed on A-Mode? Furthermore, King's Day was super filmed you make beautiful images
Hey Roy, most often I shoot in aperture priority mode which includes all the images shot at Zaanse Schans. The only time I shoot in Manual mode is if I'm working with long exposures and need total control over the shutter speed. Usually this is when I'm using solid neutral density filters.
About your blue hour spot... if you had moved only a few steps up the bridge to your left, you would have included a third bridge and the canal would have added another interesting leading line. Perhaps a bit more cluttered, but very much Amsterdam-y ;)
Next time in the Netherlands, go to Haarlem - about 10 train miles west of Amsterdam to the Frans Hals museum. Frans was an idol of Rembrandt van Rijn and worked in Haarlem that mr. Van Rijn visited at least once. A Locardi with this style of hair and a sense of humor will recognize the portraits by mr. Hals certainly. Hals had more cheerful, jovial expressions in his paintings than Rembrandt who was certainly influenced by austere Calvinism (yet, from a mixed protestant-RC marriage, he never chose either).
It looks like the main difference between the 50R here and m43 (mine is a G85) seems to be the dynamic range. If I wanted to achieve the same look on my G85, how should I bracket and post process it to come as close as possible to Elia's shot?
It's dynamic range plus pixel density. You'll notice the difference when you zoom into the full resolution image. Here, at screen resolution, it's impossible to tell.
Does anyone know how and where they parked their car this early in the morning? Because on the Zaanse Schans website it says parking opens at 8am? Of iemand lokaal uit Nederland die hierover meer weet?
I really liked Amsterdam. My only complaint is the bicycles. Picture New York City where everyone is on a bicycle and all the cars are bicycles. Just watch your step, as it seems quite dangerous. I liked it much better at night, when things calmed down considerably.
Are both of them good for travel? I have a bh-55 on benro legs that f-stoppers recommended. I shoot a x-t3. Will the tqc be sturdy enough? Is the bh-55 too large for that? Also...when are you coming to Southern California, man?
I use the TQC-14 for nearly everything, even when I'm shooting with medium format. It's perfect for flat and paved surfaces in nearly every city in the world. I would say that you'd need a larger (more sturdy) set of legs for landscapes and uneven surfaces. Grass, hills, mountains and of course, wind. These elements require a more rigid solution. SoCal? I'm not sure but I'd love to visit San Diego again. I think I'll be in LA again later this year.
Great video. The depressing thing is I was only there a couple of months ago. I definitely would have benefited from watching this before my trip. That last shot of the canal and bridges was also my last shot before heading home. I overlayed a few shots to get multiple light trails. Not sure if links work in RUclips comments but you can see it here: facebook.com/149328091776934/posts/2369723506404037?sfns=mo
I took that exact scene of the bridges in 2017. I used that box to rest my camera on as I didn’t have a tripod. You can check it out at simonbarnesphotographer.co.uk in “Portfolio” , “Gallery One”

Haha, I totally understand. I always feel like I'm going to be hit by bicycles when I'm walking around as well. ;)
Why u use revers hood so many times.
Because it's easier to leave it on the lens than to take it off.
The windmills were originally to pump water and drain the land.
Anyone know which RRS legs is he using?
A few. The small one is the TQC-14 with the BH-40. That large one is the TVC-34 4-Section with the BH-55 on top. I use both in this first season.
