As a huge honkai fan that loves this song dearly (my pfp is literally the character this song is about), I totally get how you feel about it. Aside from Zhou Shen's incredible vocal performance, the song doesn't really do anything mind-blowing, it's a very simple piece. The reason why many people feel so strongly about it, and likely why Blood Of Mine wanted to share it, is because of their love of the game's story and characters. I for one appreciate your honest opinion on the piece, as it shows that you're being genuine in your reactions (not that I doubted you). Cheers!
This song is meaningful. It helps so well to tell the story. The past, the present and the search of Hua for a future. It's just that good. Great analysis.
The vocal songs in Honkai usually play during animated shorts and are just songs that are supposed to play in the background to support and enhance the emotional impact of the scene, and I personally feel like this simple style fits these scenes a lot better than an overly complex song would. They aren't supposed to be the highlight of the moment, they are there to strengthen the emotions. I think that this simplicity is exactly what Hoyo-Mix is going for with these, so I feel like a big problem people are having is that saying you expected "more" is kind of doing them a disservice, because that implies that their intent was to craft a complex piece but they didn't manage to do it. It's more that you expected something different. But all in all a great video, and I like that you're being honest.
Another unbelievable song by Zhou Shen❤ His unique voice, professional skills, passion, warm heart and funny character also contribute to his popularity now after years of efforts to overcome all the difficulties and prejudice of his voice❤ Appreciate, treasure and love Zhou Shen ❤
Great reaction. Thank you for reacting to Zhou Shen's performance on your channel. Hopefully, we will see more of his performances on your channel. If you are interested, try to search for a song called '`People Are' which is from a movie called ' Wondering Earth 2" Thanks
Honkai has a bunch of beautiful songs that fit very well with the story and can easily bring out your emotions when they play in the game, but musically speaking they're nothing overly impressive (which is fine imo... If it works, it works)
Totally agree, without knowing the contexts and cutscenes, all of the honkai songs ( from ggz, honkai impact and even star rail) are okay at best, nothing too crazy especially in terms of music compare to like Genshin. But man, when you do know the characters and emotionally invested in the story, it just hit different. Literally a "I thought I were no more than a bystander till I felt a touch so real" moment.
@@hua3373wouldn't say its worse than genshin, I for one prefer honkai's music for the most part. its just a different genre. Genshin's more classical but honkai is more techno futuristic for the most part when it comes to OSTs. I also haven't heard of any vocal songs from Genshin but i havent played in a long time
@@myon8533true. I play both honkai and genshin. I only like genshin's music. The only thing that make honkai good is the vocall other than that it's basic... Without context it feels empty. Imo great music doesn't need context to make it enjoyable. Amazing if i know the context or watch the cutscene together with music. Tho hsr have 1 piece that i like which is kafka trailer music. It's amazing one of my fav. 😂
The best thing would be to rather do a reaction to the animated short itself since the song was made to be used as a way to highlight the atmosphere and emotions present in the animated cutscenes for the game. Perhaps a better one to react to would probably be Cyberangel since that song is quite upbeat and works as a standalone piece. Its probably the only one that can be enjoyed without the context of the game's story.
Honkai Impact has the best music out of any Hoyoverse game (Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail) which makes it some of the best video game music out there. Highly recommend checking out more of these songs that were used in the animations such as Nightglow.
i think “moon halo” from honkai impact third would be a much better song to react to in terms of instrumental. it’s a MUCH harder hitting song in my opinion overall and just simply gorgeous. i’ve never played the game but i cry every time i listen to it.
Amusingly enough, Moon Halo is, despite already being so nice, leagues more touching once you play, because almost every line is filled with symbolism, tying back to all the struggles throughout the game. Most lines are paraphrased lines from earlier songs, referencing all the different characters connecting in that moment.
Nice reaction, it was interesting to listen to your opinion. One thing i noticed for all honkai impact songs is they emphasize character and story a lot l, and rubia is the simplest among them, although I'm not an expert on music I'd like to hear your thoughts on the other songs as well.
Hello! Thank You for your interest for Zhou Shen! This singer is one of the unique in the world! You should watch his performance of another songs to know his unreal abilities and charming voice. Please, react to the performance: Memory, Ring the Door bell, Welcome to the Paradise Island - You will enjoy every of them. 😊
I always appreciate your musical analysis and honesty. It's always so professional and the feedback comes from someone who really knows their stuff. You should totally react to Nightglow or Moon Halo! Both are also from Honkai Impact and personally my two favorite songs from the game. I think they're much more impactful (much respect to Rubia)
New subscriber here! I really appreciate that you give your genuine thoughts instead of mindlessly complementing every song you hear! I never really thought much about the music w/o the vocals, but you made some pretty good points!
No worries I think most people will get why you expected more. This song, as most of Honkai Impact ones, is supposed to be an accompaniment to key event in the story. There's much more going on sound-wise during the cutscene it's made for. But I am sure you'll soon find yourself in awe soon. Regression looms on the horizon.
Honkai impact is a story game, first and foremost. Everything in it serves the purpose of that. So, much of what makes the songs good, in my opinion, is the symbolism in each one. The main complexity to them is what they mean, and how each one represents what the character is going through. Each one appears in a cutscene at the end of a story arc, usually right after a boss battle(the cutscenes are often the final moments of said fight). So, for someone who doesn't know the context, it won't be as good. As for the cheese factor, well, the game is quite emotional. Either way, great video. I loved it. I suggest two things, 1. Play the game, it is a good game 2. Please review the other songs.
I recall you mention you have always been more of an instrumental guy. Would you still be able to enjoy something instrumentally complex even if the vocal ain't up to par?
Honkai Impact just have great emotional music filling the story the depressing atmosphere it needs. Songs like Moon Halo and Da Capo are the most famous so far and honestly they're my favorite. Cover more HoyoMix songs, they're all outstanding especially the live ones
idk but i wish, just if you are going to make another reaction song about Hoyomix (honkai impact song) i suggest making 2 follow up parts for the song and short animation too
Honkai Impact fans will get triggered 😭 (not me) I agree that the vocals are great but in terms of instrumentation, Rubia has one of the weakest in terms of complexity but it sounds great and fitting for the song since it's more emotional. When it comes to instruments, perhaps Honkai Impact character demo/version trailers are more well suited for you to dissect. However, a lot/some of them are digitalized-mixed, I don't know if it's up to your taste. There is an orchestrated version in the Honkai concert that might pique your interest. Hope someone in Patreon refers you to some of those songs/or a compiled version of it.
@@DrumRollTonyReactsIt's basically a song that alludes to the story arc of a character named Hua who's lived for 50000 years who's previous civilization is destroyed by a force or an entity called Honkai. Choronologically, after their survival, she was one of the pioneers who are supposed to rebuild human civilization, she took on several identities throughout time meeting and passing along people whom she can call comrades, friends and disciples. It's really a tragic story befitting the song and the animation, it's the culmination of Hua's journey who have been through countless struggle and betrayal in pursuit of Honkai, this was the end of the samsara of her suffering hence the name of the animation along with this song is called "shattered samsara." To top things off, Hua as a genetically modified super human has this ability which makes her remember every memory throughout the thousands of years she's lived in, and it damages her brain so she has a way to store it somewhere, if that's not suffering I don't know what is.

It's not about being a fan or not, it's just an analytical review. You can be a fan, and still be critical, and the few butthurt comments either looked at the title and didn't bother to see your video, or just need to grow up. I'm a Honkai3rd day 1 player, and i can totally understand your point. Rubia is beautiful, and Zhou Shen's angelic voice is still darn impressive, but by itself, it's just a regular song, something fitting to, idk, an ending of an anime. Despite being gorgeous, it's not on my Hoyo's playlist. What really does the heavy lifting, as some already pointed out, is the overall context, where Rubia starts to play on a breaking point of "Shattered Samsara" animation PV. It changes a bittersweet conclusion, of the tragic story of Fu Hua, into a hopeful one. Whenever i listen to this, i instantly recall the exact scenes of that particular animation. All in all, great review.
