Her stealing a song isn’t the main reason I wrote this comment. If you read ALL of it MULTIPLE times you would see that. These kind of comments are dumb, and not doing anything. Also my “favorite songs” have nothing to do with my comment. She just recorded a song she was sent to and had 0 creative input in it. Also since the song never really came out she may have bought the song which isn’t really stealing BUT she shouldn’t be claiming she wrote it.
Now you know damn well you did not see no interview where she said that. not a SINGLE person out of these thousands and thousands of comments can find an interview where she said that because it doesn't exist. She actually said it took them 2 years to produce the music video, NOT the song.

I don't believe she "stole" the song because it was probably free to take or the producers that worked with her owned the song. However, i watched Brit Smith's version and it just hit so much harder. The music video also tells a clearer story than jojo's and makes the song make a lot more sense.
The general production of the music was better too. Better vocals, better instrumentals, better mixing. Jojo's feels like a Kidz Bop song in comparison.

The MV was uploaded to Vimeo 10 years ago, that's the earliest mention of the song on internet, and for some reason there's link to a RUclips video on the search page with the song title but without the video itself dates back to 2010, if the song was not officially released? I think what's really sort of cementing the thought people have of her saying she wrote the songs is how she's spoken about them "being about her ex" in some videos and acting as if she had more control over them aside from buying them(like the "adlib" in one and switching "messed up" to "f'd up" in Karma). It's not necessarily claiming she wrote the song, but the small changes on top of her saying she wants to invent a new genre when she's mostly using songs that have already existed that aren't helping her.
If Jojo made that as a cover, then it would've been fine, but no, instead, she stole it like a criminal 🤦♀️
Or, just think for a second, the writers credited are the same and the original song wasn't even released, people only know about it from some random tweets from when Jojo was like 10.
