Seems like this movie is about how desensitized people have become to what was once considered abhorrent, or taboo. The constant escalation that people resort to in order to feel something. You see it on Instagram, and you definitely see it on TikTok with all the stupid challenges people do. People watch emotionally disturbing videos and feel nothing, so they must watch something depraved. It’s like drugs; each time you use it, you must have a stronger dose the next time because the original dose won’t have the same effect. The “evolution” these people are experiencing, is actually a metaphor of the de-evolution society is experiencing now. People are becoming so bizarre with the body modifications they do, are more devoid of humanity and emotion and are less and less able to interact like human beings, that they seem like something trying to imitate a human or you must question whether this person is human because of how they think or behave.
I dissagree. Conventional humans fucked their planet in this movie and nature is trying to fix it by having people evolve to clean the planets cancer that was human civilization and waste. We numbed ourselves to hear the screams of the planet and we created the dystopia we see here. The planet is evolving its own "organs" and the humans are resisting and trying to suppress this attempt for the planet to heal. People are actively trying to suppress this new species as not "human" despite the only thing these people want to do is survive and live.
As an infj i find it weird you cant empathize with the idea that mental health plays the primary role in people being deevolved or not and the younger generations are proven and studied to be more emotionally intelligent and empathetic than previous generations. Theyre not allowing toxic or negative views affect their life because they do not affect their mental health, they are breaking generational trauma that suppresses peoples ability to find their self identity and do what makes them feel the most fulfilled,. Getting piercings doesnt correlate with mental health but has been proven to be an acceptance of the lengths art can go to while not causing permanent harm or pain. The use of social medias has been proven to be more beneficial for society because of its access to information, poor communities are showing increasing rates of graduates because of their easier access to a world of information, kids can also find safety groups or sources for external health aid in families that are extremely dysfunctional and abusive, adults who have been so traumatized that they cant identify themselves have access to outside viewpoints and educational tools as well. If people are mentally healthy they wouldnt get addicted to medias as frequently and having access to the internet and factual data can help people learn to be mentally healthy or give them that access (as i already said). If you don’t understand these things then its likely that you were raised or are in a dynamic that doesnt treat you as an equal or like you matter enough to get mental help and youve just accepted a toxic and viewpoint putting opinions over fact because it became so normal to you. Hope you can step out of that! Its hard.

Thanks you for explaining this. In all honesty this is the first ever movie I walked out of from the theater. I usually like these slow paced artsy Movies but this one I just didn’t understand. Also when everyone in my theater goes “what the heck is going on” after hours of watching the movie, yeah that makes me know I’m not the only one not enjoying this movie.😅
I started watching this video, then decided I would watch the movie first. Got like 25 mins into a movie that made no sense and came back to this video 😅
Yeah, from what I understand this movie is getting a shit ton of walk outs, but the media made it seem like it wasn't so much because it wasn't being understood and way more to do with the disgusting portrayal of the body horror aspect of things. It sounds to me like it's way more the latter than anything to do with the gore, etc. Now I LOVE me some Cronenberg, but when I hear lines like "surgery is the new sex" I can't help but think maybe it's a bit too Cronenbergian for it's own good. Certain directors that become know for a certain thing, then move away from that thing and STILL manage to find success (A History of Violence and Eastern Promises which are both still absolutely fucking fantastic), and then return to the thing that initially made them famous, it always terrifies me that they're going to essentially beat you over the fucking head with their initial niche SOOOO hard and throw any sort of nuance to the wind, and that's exactly what I thought was happening here. He even pulled a name out that, if I got the story correct, was something he had attached to a COMPLETELY different tale he had written like 20 years ago, but he decided to use it here I can only assume because he thought it sounded cool which to me seems like a completely anti-Cronenbergian thing to do. But man, wtf do I know? Hahaha I'm literally watching a video of a movie explained to me by a third party because I can't be bothered to watch it for myself. So, who is the REAL douchebag here?🤔 Clearly me. The answer is me. 😂
Hay man, your EPIC!!! Your film breakdowns are so reliable and concise! I can binge watch you for days! Thank you for breaking down absolutely everything!!! And your background is steller!!! I hope to show my kids your movie recaps!!!!
It probably defeats the purpose, but I think the arty overture really took away from an interesting premise. The science fiction aspect (new evolution) would have been really interesting to explore by itself. Also, is there any way to make body horror feel necessary?
I think so. You'd just need to get creative. Like if body horror tied into the message of the story. Gruesome scenes could be depicted over and over to the point that the audience gets desensitized. Like the message could be something like, and I'm just spitballing here, when people see terrible things over and over again they can reach a point when they can no longer tell something is wrong or blah blah blah.
The point of the movie probably isn't body horror, but the horror of the situation. Body horror here feels more like an underlying plot device rather than the main focus of the movie.
I feel like in the career of every successful author there comes a point where either they stop questioning themselves or they stop being questioned by the people around them and they end up making something that only makes sense to them or perhaps makes no sense at all
Any thoughts on the constant visual references to old ships - something about feeling washed up and useless? Also, Wippet appears framed quite often, in a mirror at one point and by the frame of a shelving unit at another. Any thoughts on that? As though he is a work of art himself - but I can’t see how that would work with his character in the context of the movie… anyone got any thoughts?
Wippet is a psychopath that only likes “art” because it has to do with killing and mutilation. It’d be like if Jeffrey Dahmer was in charge of organ registry in the future
I feel like part of the point of this movie is to shine a light on how much trash is being produced and left laying around. To the point where the most plentiful resource is synthetic garbage after the Great Collapse. Leading to humans evolving a means to process and break down what appears to be the most plentiful food source. But that's just a theory...
When I saw it I miss the part that they don't feel pain. ( Movie similar to video drone) But what I got of the movie is forcing a human evolution to be plastic eater. And everyone is horning for surgery

The title makes it sounds like Psycho-Pass (where essentially crimes are able to be predicted before they occur, and you can be arrested for something you haven't even done yet...!)
My impression about the ending: the artist (Viggo) evolved to become exactly what he initially disapproved: a "plastic consumer". Remember his performance centered on his organic capabilities, and initially he was rejecting exactly what his body became in the end... and here is the irony. 😂😂😂It was actually funny, I laughed out loud🖤loved it. Lots of symbolisms
Ah yes, the movie that Variety called "David Cronenberg's foray into body horror" Because doing basic research for an article should be considered a super power, apparently
11:41 =Is it just me or the idea of being under the knife is reminiscent of Junji Ito's tale about that girl who likes to do surgery (and later kept asking for people to slice her up) which weirded the protagonist (who later became a doctor) out?

Forever waiting on your explanation on the Thai film "The medium" I had Sooooo many questions at the end of the film still hunts me to know what really happened Jajjaj love your videos also lots of love from Mexico!
It seems that this film illustrates the evolution of Cronenberg's work from pure body horror into art horror. A self analysis and criticism of his own work, if you will.
His work isn't that deep and doesn't warrant further analysis or criticism. His ideas are half baked and don't come together. Should have hired a screenwriter to clean-up his script.
@@jonfreeman9682 it's a matter of opinion and I respect yours. But I am drawn to directors who pushes the envelop and consistently comes up with novel concepts. I saw Shivers recently and immediately recognized where Alien's face huggers and chest busters' "inspiration" came from. Not cool but that's Hollywood.
@@E_l_l_i_e That's true. Cronenberg deserves credit for fresh original story scripts. This film works as an experimental blend of sci-fi, ecology, environment, evolution, body horror, art and erotica. But he includes so much that the film as a whole ends up being less than the sum of its parts. Some great story concepts here but could have been much better with a tighter script.
I was soooo beyond excited for this film as a massive Cronenberg fan. The trailer was stuck in my head for weeks and I kept replaying it in my mind over and over trying to understand this world Cronenberg made, and what the hell was going on in the trailer lol. Unfortunately, the hype surrounding the film got my hopes all the way up, I read countless articles that said it was so disturbing that people left in the first 5 mins and multiple people had to leave because they experiencing panic attacks from what was happening on screen. Normally I would be like “mhmm.. sure Jan. 🙄” But this is Cronenberg we’re talking about… if anyone could cause these kind of reactions, it’s him. Lol. But sadly, there was nothing of the sort. If anything, I was more shocked at how tame this movie was in comparison to his previous body horror films.. even during the scenes where someone is literally being sliced open while little robots dig around in the organs, it just looked silly because there was very little blood, and the organs looked like those jiggly stretchy ball toys Lmao. What was most upsetting for me, was that EVERY. SINGLE. SCENE. that could be described as unsettling or shocking, was in the trailer. All of them!! (minus the end of course) Overall, I think this movie had the potential to be freaking awesome because Cronenberg set up this really cool world with these interesting characters, but then kinda just didn’t do much with them. I still think the movie was good, I just want to learn more about this world lol
Actually the 'surgery scenes' are sort of based in reality and realistic from the looks of it. During surgery there isn't much blood at all unless you're dealing with arteries or veins, etc so watch a real surgery clip and see what I'm talking about, also when surgeons cut, they can use a heated tipped cutting tool to sear skin shut while cutting certain areas to ensure their isn't any bleeding and the wound they made is instantly shut from the melting where the cutting tool cut (so only the main incision is actually open in which there shouldn't be any blood at all usually).
@@edborrelli2786 right but there’s also the scenes where people are cutting into themselves on the street or in those other performances using basic blades and there was so little blood it looked comical. I get a paper cut and it’s a blood bath 🤣
@@kylecunningham9793 right! I guess if I went into it blind without seeing the trailer, it may have hit different.. but the trailer is what got me so interested in the first place. I was just shocked to find out all of the “gruesome” parts were already shown pretty much in entirety during the trailer
Hey foundflix have you heard of a Taiwanese horror movie titled "incantation" I believe it's still on Netflix but overall it's a pretty interesting horror movie Not to spoil but overall it's a camera pov horror movie like blair Witch Project
I found the style interesting. Prompting the viewer to chant along with the mc. Ofc for spoiler reasons I don’t want to ruin the ending for others. You got Blair witch mixed with a little bit of the ring and Asian paranormal stuff. Pretty good imo
@@emmasherrard0222 I agree this movie doesn't work. Cronenberg has done some good horror like the fly and existenz about virtual reality was not bad. He tries to blend in sci-fi, environment, ecology, evolution, art, erotica and even throws in a couple Blade Runner girls killing anyone who eat plastics but the story just doesn't come together and is a mess. The central theme about accepting our natural evolution is just boring. Still Cronenberg deserves credit for fresh original story.
@@jonfreeman9682 I completely agree I loved the fly and I do like cronenburgs work but even existential was hard to follow for me idk I love all sorts of movies and I am a huge fan of the found flix channel but I think his videos on just straight horror movies are usually the most entertaining you?
Honestly the premises, tech. and some of the dialog here seem more like a parody of Cronenberg body horror than the original. I just can't suspend disbelief on this one.
This concept is so meta in the context of Cronenberg's career. I really hope this is the beginning of him returning to his roots, but more maybe bombastic in nature.
I think is interesting how Saul is both an artist and an ex cop still working as an informant. He believes in some of the artsy fartsy stuff but is obviously, initially, uncomfortable with everyone who fetishize him. Is like a moderate conservative slowly becoming a revolutionary.
yes! thank you for covering this movie, i was very distracted from understanding the plot by being uncomfortable by the sexual body horror. interesting for sure but i dont think this movie was for me

This felt very David Lynchesque. I found the feeding chairs more disturbing than anything else.
Remember when the idea of people carving up and modifying the human body to suit their desires and fetishes used to be shocking and horrifying?
director -*hits blunt* "what if we made masochism a movie"
My impression about the ending: the artist (Viggo) evolved to become exactly what he initially disapproved: a "plastic consumer". Remember his performance centered on his organic capabilities, and initially he was rejecting exactly what his body became in the end... and here is the irony. 😂😂😂It was actually funny, I laughed out loud🖤loved it. Lots of symbolisms
Love your videos-this may be my favorite. Well done!!!
Ah yes, the movie that Variety called "David Cronenberg's foray into body horror"
Because doing basic research for an article should be considered a super power, apparently
Did Variety really say that!? 🤣 🤣 🤣 Thats ironic considering than man practically invented the term "body horror"
Great summation of this movie! I’m always so happy when you post a new video! 💜
11:41 =Is it just me or the idea of being under the knife is reminiscent of Junji Ito's tale about that girl who likes to do surgery (and later kept asking for people to slice her up) which weirded the protagonist (who later became a doctor) out?
Dissection Girl? The one whose internal organs resembled the animals she tortured and vivisected when she was cut up?
@@lipstickzombie4981 I think that's it... It's like that's how it felt at first before being added thematic meaning...
Great review and break down. I honestly feel you make movies like this so much more digestible. Also you save me so much time instead of sitting through these usually slow movies
Hah! I see what you did there... Digestible 😄
Mmm plastic tape cover 🤤🤤
Forever waiting on your explanation on the Thai film "The medium" I had Sooooo many questions at the end of the film still hunts me to know what really happened Jajjaj love your videos also lots of love from Mexico!
Another reason why I love watching these videos
Your sarcastic jokes
You guys are cringe. Trying so hard to sound intelligent.
Now that one was thought provoking for sure.
I’m so glad Cronenberg made a comeback
(minus the end of course)
Overall, I think this movie had the potential to be freaking awesome because Cronenberg set up this really cool world with these interesting characters, but then kinda just didn’t do much with them.
I agree, I enjoyed the film but this was not the Shocking body horror piece I was expecting. It was more meditative, than anything.
They left because it sucked
@@edborrelli2786 right but there’s also the scenes where people are cutting into themselves on the street or in those other performances using basic blades and there was so little blood it looked comical. I get a paper cut and it’s a blood bath 🤣
@@kylecunningham9793 right! I guess if I went into it blind without seeing the trailer, it may have hit different.. but the trailer is what got me so interested in the first place. I was just shocked to find out all of the “gruesome” parts were already shown pretty much in entirety during the trailer
Videodrome was my favorite movie for many years.
Hey foundflix have you heard of a Taiwanese horror movie titled "incantation" I believe it's still on Netflix but overall it's a pretty interesting horror movie
Not to spoil but overall it's a camera pov horror movie like blair Witch Project
I found the style interesting. Prompting the viewer to chant along with the mc. Ofc for spoiler reasons I don’t want to ruin the ending for others. You got Blair witch mixed with a little bit of the ring and Asian paranormal stuff. Pretty good imo
Dude the ad break was 👌 perfection 🤣
Yes!! Been waiting for this vid from you!
Just found out your channel and I love it already. Thank you for the vid!
Ive honestly been clicking off and on your channel waiting for an upload lol
Love your content my man! long time fan
I love that the breakfast chair is Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times as body-horror.
Thank you for the breakdown! Really liked this movie.
Now I can sleep well tonight closing my eyes listening to a great video with voice of a angel lol
I could listen to you breakdown my grocery list, sir ❤
Me, after watching this whole video uninterrupted paying full attention:
"....what?"
I laughed so hard when the dude came after trying eating plastic
Am I the only one who thinks people capable of eating plastic would be fantastic for the environment?
Isn't that the point? Being able to break down plastics organically?
These type of movies are just to deep for me and always go over my head
Trust me it's not as deep as the director fancies it to be. Bottom line is humanity is evolving to eat plastics and we must learn to accept evolution.
@@jonfreeman9682 yeah see I just don’t fancy that shit
@@jonfreeman9682 that’s pretty dumb
Always the best at explaining movies. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the movie Men
absolutely have to explain/ review Nope next!! It’s so good!!
I struggled to care for absolutely any of the characters. I had a terrible time just getting to the end of the film.
Oh thank god. I didn’t want to watch this whole movie myself and was hoping for a breakdown.
Something, something, organs and art...something, something, plastics.
When ever foundflix uploads it fe3ls like Christmas morning
Finally I’ve been waiting for him to get to this😂
Been waiting for this
Honestly the premises, tech. and some of the dialog here seem more like a parody of Cronenberg body horror than the original. I just can't suspend disbelief on this one.
Sounds like a you problem.
@@Slop_Dogg He's entitled to his opinion.
Please do The Black Phone next!
I just saw the trailer to this movie last night my first thought was let me check my favorite channel you never disappoint
This concept is so meta in the context of Cronenberg's career. I really hope this is the beginning of him returning to his roots, but more maybe bombastic in nature.
that is the greatest segway to an ad i have ever seen
I legit thought that was Ed Harris and that this was a 90s film the first time I saw your review 🤣
Do you think you could review The Black Phone?
I think is interesting how Saul is both an artist and an ex cop still working as an informant.
He believes in some of the artsy fartsy stuff but is obviously, initially, uncomfortable with everyone who fetishize him.
Is like a moderate conservative slowly becoming a revolutionary.
yes! thank you for covering this movie, i was very distracted from understanding the plot by being uncomfortable by the sexual body horror. interesting for sure but i dont think this movie was for me
This was *SUCH* a fun movie!!
ngl i don’t even watch the movies you just make the shit interesting
Fun fact, "Sark" means "flesh".
