Band-Maid fans! What do you call your fandom?!
Masters and Princesses
hahahaha
Japan is wild
Maidiacs is us.
MAIDIAC thru & thru.🤘😝🤘
@@KenobiLJN That's certainly what BAND-MAID call their fans.
It's based on the way customers are referred to in Japanese Maid Cafes.
To clarify, The Maids consider all of their audience as Masters and Princesses, and the general fan base consider themselves Maidiacs. There are also Maidiac factions that you will learn about as you go, like the Dawn Patrol, Carrier Pigeons, etc
Drum solo...Freedom official live. Meet the happiest smiliest drummer on the planet. 🤩
Oh Lollapalooza, I was there! The crowd was more hyped than it looks but they put them on a weird stage at a weird time. Most of the people in the crowd were there waiting for Sabrina Carpenter who was up next. Pretty sure promoters thought Band-Maid was just a little pop group. And multiple people asked me if they were K-Pop before they started and I just smiled and laughed and said "wait". They actually debuted the extended solo part of the song the night before at a small lolla after show. I was there too and was so lucky, I was front row and about 18 inches directly in front of MISA the bass player, and she played that solo in my face.
I was also at both, and glad I did both. The extended solo section was debuted in one of their July shows in Japan. I think they played it at all 4.
You're lucky. I missed them in Phoenix when they came through on their first US tour. Maybe I'll catch them the next time around. Then again, my brother lives in Japan. So maybe I'll try and schedule a visit around a Band-Maid concert.
Oh those Sabrina carpenter fans got a wake up call didn’t they? Hahaha
@@Dante94 lucky bastard
"Is that a Bass solo ?" .... first time hearing Band-Maid I see.
🤘🤘
I said those exact words my first time hearing these Ladies.
About the instruments:
Rhythm guitarist Miku is playing an A24MF-FP Flappy Pigeon guitar.
MF stands for metal front.
The "Flappy Pigeon" is her signature model from Zemaitis.
MISA is playing a Black Cloud five string bass.
She also has a signature model from the company, but isn't playing it here.
Kanami has a PRS Custom 24, and she recently became the first Japanese artist to have her own PRS (Paul Reed Smith) signature model.
It's the Kanami Limited Edition Custom 24-08 in Trampas Green Smokeburst.
And the Kanami Limited Edition sold out in days, there was only 200 produced
you forgot Akane's signature drum sticks hehehe
Akane also gives her drumsticks human names.
Here are the members + nicknames for fun
Miku Kobato (girl with colored hair): founder of the band, rhythm guitar, back vocalist, main lyricist, main spokesperson, occasional lead vocalist. Incredibly hardworking person with kind heart. Her nickname is Small Pigeon
Saiki Atsumi (vampire goddess): main vocalist, occasional lyricist, second spokesperson (also the youngest in the band). She often gives cold-like tsundere vibe (similar vibe with vampire lol) so her nickame is usually Ice Princess
Kanami Tono: lead guitar, main composer of their songs, occasional back vocalist. Her nickname is Kanamincho, -incho is a suffix which adds cute like aspect to the name and that explanation kind of sums up her vibe despite she transforms into a hurricane while playing a solo
Akane Hirose: drummer, absolute beast, loves to eat, occasional back vocalist. Her nickname is usually Drumzilla or something along this line. Despite being a punk kid in her childhood gives the most composed image as a person. Her inspiration was the drummer (Nao) from Maximum The Hormone, maybe you heard about this band
Misa: bassist, she (almost) always plays barefooted cuz heels hurt her legs, making her nickname Barefoot Assassin. The shyest person in the band, speaks only when asked, absolute monster on her bass. Likes to occasionally drink during their sets
"Occasionally"
I’m going to try and learn and remember their name! Thank you so much for this
@@normanweaver7935 ha ha - well I guess she did just resolve to keep it in "moderation" for 2025.
Ok, here we go again. Some of this cut and paste misinformation needs to end. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but please only give correct information.
Miku Kobato (guitar /vocals) is a small pigeon (that's what Kobato means).
Saiki (vocals) is not and never has been "ice queen." Sai-chan (occasionally Sensei) is what she's called within the band. The cold personality that she portrayed in the band's early years was to cover for her extreme shyness.
Akane (drums) is A-chan (pronounced Ah-chan) or Gorilla due to her powerful drumming and her love of bananas.
Kanami (lead guitar) is Mincho or Kanamincho.
MISA (bass) is Misa-chan within the band, but fans often call her the Barefoot Assassin because she usually plays barefoot and her attire was once described as an "assassin maid" by Miku in an interview.
@@mightydegu
One more thing - what Misa said in interview as to why she prefers to play barefoot, is it gives her a strong immediate connection to Akane's drumbeats and helps her lock her timing to them.
Well for there names
Lead guitar is - Kanami Tono
Rhythm guitar , backup vocals - Miku Kobato also the founder of BAND MAID
Drums - Akane Hirose my fav
singer - Saiki Atsumi
Bass - MISA or Bearfoot assassin
They have been around for over 10 years , Have over 140 songs and are amazing.
11 plus yrs now.
Thank you!
When you do Domination, make sure it's the live version.
@@lewissmith4123 Do both
Yes, the pretty girls in the maid costumes actually play (and write) their own music. Their are no half-assed musicians in Japan, male or female. The costumes were more traditional and coordinated between the members early in their run. As time wore on, four of them started having more fun with the styles of dresses. The guitarist with the pigtails is the only one that has stuck with the traditional maid motif, since she started the band. ."Ten minutes of limp gymnastics" is an accurate translation. Use your imagination. Any adult should be able to figure it out. No, the extended solo parts are not in the studio version. They were written solely for the live performances. Yes, BAND-MAID is badass and I hope you enjoy the ride. 😁
The lyrics including those "ten minutes of limp gymnastics" are the correct translation. If you follow the lyrics, you will absolutely know what they mean with that.
Haha I just thought maybe the direct English subtitles lacked context but apparently not lol
@@ShadeReactsLive Yeah, I've heard a few stories of how these lyrics came to be, but they are said to be about men cheating on their ladies during covid - or something along those lines.
@@Kevin6059
Apparently cheating was rampant during the pandemic.
@@ShadeReactsLive A friend of the lead singer got cheated on during the pandemic and this is a song about her toughts about that
Best thing to do if you want to learn about them is to check out the Ohrenje Documentary series.

I agree with this.
Initially I was quite surprised at the professional level of the production! Start with Saiki!
Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed!
Their sound in their official live video's - I can confirm that's what they actually sound like being in the room with them, it's not doctored, but has gone through the sound desk of course. Their sound techs are AMAZING
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!
🤙🏽
810 year old pigeon? 😂
@@ShadeReactsLive Yes, 810 year old small pigeon. All will become clear the deeper you dive into 'the Pigeonhole' Po!
@@ShadeReactsLive She doesn't look a day over 400, does she?
@@Kevin6059 lol
The Lollapalooza concert was filmed and broadcast by the festival and not Band-Maid's videographers, and they were not prepared.
A Hulu broadcast
To be fair, coming in blind, would ANY of us have expected that from MISA, or any other bassist in a different band?
It was a live stream. So the director would have needed prior information. And with dozens of bands playing, and a new segment added to the song, I doubt even Band-Maid fans would have gotten it right.
It was actually filmed by the HULU channel.
Absolutely. The entire video crew and editor should be sacked. Frequently showing the wrong band member during solos by Misa and Kanami. Too many back shots, and poorly-angled close-ups. Amateur hour while a pro band is playing.
No need to worry about the crowd. They had a mostly sold out tour and we showed them the love they deserved!
OMG! Your world is about to totally change! You may ...sorry...you WILL probably give up on all other bands after hearing them. They all wear Maid outfits, but they have evolved over the past 10+ years. Check out the documentaries by Ohrenje for a stellar intro to these amazing ladies. They are a incredibly hard rocking maid band! Their concerts are "servings" for their "masters" and "princesses". Fans are "MAIDIACS" and you will become one soon! Babymetal may be the yin but BAND-MAID is totally YANG! Try Onset, From Now On, Secret Maiko Lips/ Secret My Lips, Dice, Blooming....just listen to every song. MAIDIACS are the happiest people on earth, Po! (a saying by Miku, our little pigeon🕊❤🎀)
With Japanese rock and metal bands, the best think you can do is to not expect A to sound like B and for both not to sound like C. There's a lot of diversity and nuance in Japan's rock/metal scene (and I'll throw in South Korea's great rock band Rolling Quartz as well).
Incidentally, that Lolla gig started just about 12 hours after they had finished a full (longer) show the night before, on a blazing hot Chicago afternoon. Superhuman.
Yeah 11pm at park west , was a great show , I have videos from it
@@polskabob359 Yeah, not sure if it's your video I've seen or whose, but the version of Hate from that show was better than the day show.
I've never seen a reactor speed run monetization so fast before. XD Congrats on the 1K.
Saiki's vocal is so good. Everyone's playing is so good. This band is so good. There's a documentary series on each member you might want to put on the list.
And not to overwhelm, but Nemophila is also amazing...and they covered Megitsune. It's pretty awesome.
I am SO grateful to have found Babymetal, Band-Maid, and LOVEBITES!! And I am so fortunate to have seen all three in concert! They have changed my musical world!!!
Thank you for your wonderful comment. This group has more than 130 original songs, and there are no bad songs. The main guitarist writes the songs, and the sub-guitarist writes most of the lyrics. Please enjoy the technique and sense of the main guitarist, bassist, and drummer. Of course, the singer and sub-guitarist are also at the highest level.
THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. I think that's everything covered.
💯% agree
Maids outfits have evolved to suit each member. The more you see the more you'll understand. Welcome to BAND-MAID.
Meet the ladies:
Miku Kobato "Little Pigeon" - band founder - rhythm guitar and second vocals. Main lyricist. Claims to be an 810 year old pigeon and makes pigeon noises when she speaks. Po! Very good at poker, really into horses and horse racing. Very clumsy, may fall into ditches. Has the energy of an average nuclear power station mixed with weapons grade cuteness. A comedian onstage - literally! She is the heart and soul of the band.
Saiki Atsumi was "The Ice Queen" nowadays just "The Queen" - Lead vocalist and frontwoman. Was very shy in the early years and came across frosty in interviews because of that, hence the nickname - she has thawed out now though! The youngest member at 30. Into train spotting (really)! and collecting trainers (sports shoes). Very girly, is a fashion icon and ex model. Designs a lot of the bands merch. Really into Baseball and the Hanshin Tigers. Don't mess with her you will lose. But she has a heart of gold and a killer dry sense of humour. Recently started writing lyrics. Has final say on songs.
Kanami Tono - "Kanamincho" but usually just "Mincho" for short. Lead guitar and an absolute genius songwriter. Total riff machine. Has two personas. Normally a tiny cute shy very polite lady who seems very innocent (the band have to explain dirty jokes to her). Until she puts on her guitar. As the band say: "then she gets quite violent" - she turns into the shredding rock star she is. Takes guitar off, back to the little girl. Likes cakes, coffee and is totally infatuated by Saiki. She adores Saiki very much, to everyone's amusement.
Akane Hirose - "The Gorilla" on Drums. Seems to be the sane member of the band, but is actually the band clown. Has an enormous appetite, seen eating in a lot of MV's. Eats a lot of bananas including on stage, hence the nickname. But she is terrible at actual cooking. Usually has a big grin on her face while drumming manically, Akane was also a DJ (under the name DJ Achi) and likes dancing and goofing with MISA. She also plays trombone!
MISA (all caps, no last name) "The Barefoot Assassin" on bass. An absolute bass prodigy, MISA is very shy onstage (and a total clown offstage with Akane). Nickname comes from the fact she plays barefoot and looks like an assassin. Because of shyness often drinks onstage, you can often spot a bottle of Jim Beam on her amp. She drinks it neat. Lately drinking more beer than whiskey though, good girl. Doesn't say much, but when she does it's usually totally hilarious! At a lot of concerts you will hear the fans chanting MISA! MISA! MISA! which has become a slogan.
Thank you for the breakdown 🤘🤘
11 years of non stop excellence. Official live is the way to go. They are the real deal and have brilliant sound and stage people behind em.
They are rock and roll guardian angels and the best hard rock band on this planet🤘Keep an eye on them!!
Really enjoyed your reaction. Been a Maid fan (MAIDIAC) since 2017. The greatest rock/hard rock band on the planet. Just subscribed. Keep those Band Maid songs rolling and thank you for supporting the MAIDS.
The reason these 2 songs are together is, the way they joined the 2 songs with the drum intro and key shift up, was their Woodstock Moment, the whole vibe when thru the roof, and the stunned promoters realised Band Maid shoulda been the headliners for the day. Their whole set is up here on RUclips , and it is a text book example of how arrange and perform a set to people, who are new to BM , and win fans for life, in 48mins. Sensational band !
💜💛❤💙💚
Welcome to the Maidiacs.
HATE? OLV is from their 10th anniversary tour final at Yokohama Arena. 3h 40m, 33 song setlist (this was #27).
Our Maids are too kind to do battles, they do conversations.
Dude! I have subscribed with you since it looks like you can breakdown music quite well. I feel I'm in for an interesting ride with you. As everyone has said to you - "Welcome to Band Maid!" they are the hardest rocking band I know of right now. I have seen them live and believe me it is just a kick ass incredible experience. I had quit listening to modern music until I accidentally discovered this band 4 years ago now. I am in my seventies and grew up watching Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Jethero Tull, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, to name a few. Music died for me in the 90's and then came these women. Others have listed some great music of theirs for you, but I'd like to recommend the dual video performance of "Manners" and "Black Hole" they did for fans during covid in 2021. You must listen to both because the effect together is amazing. This band is capable of just about anything musically and that is what seperates them from Baby Metal for me. Baby Metal is much more of a corporate produced and directed enterprise while Band Maid is about the musicians and music. They write and perform their own. If your interest in Band Maid is strong enough, and you really want to learn about them and how and what they are about, I would suggest a 7 set of documentary videos on each band member from a French guy named Ohrenje. They are actually fairly short being around 25 to 30 minutes each. One thing you will find out is that the Maidiacs who follow these ladies are a very special group from all around the world. Band Maid is actually more popular outside Japan than in. Anyway, do enjoy your time with them. We all believe they are something very, very special.
66 yrs old and same here
Thank you 🤘 these ladies know how to rock a crowd. I love it so far!
WE are called MAIDIACS
You must check out From Now On that is instrumental.
Absolutely!
“10 minutes of limp gymnastics” means exactly what you think it does, it is an excellent translation. she hates a guy, this is maybe the coldest cut down I’ve ever heard in a song. Just ruthless.
Welcome to band maid! The best rock band on the planet (imo of course). The list you have is a good start. I’ll add a few more: Freedom ((live) (you’re desired drumming is in this song)) Shambles (MV), Dice (MV), Play (live), Don’t you tell Me (live)
The Lolla show was weird, they were on a smaller stage, very early in the day in front of a crowd not expecting rock music. To be fair, the crowd grew significantly over their set as the sound attracted many new listeners.
The lyrics translation is spot on. Now.... Knowing the theme of the song, go back and rewatch the guitar bass "battle", but now watch it as an argument. The bass is the guy and the guitar is the girl. The bass starts out talking shit and complaining. The guitar yells back in anger. The bass continues aggressively, going on a rant. The guitar interrupts, mocking the bass and pushing back, the bass tries to argue back, resulting in both instruments eventually "shouting" at each other, but the guitar slowly takes over the and wins the argument, leaving the bass mumbling. Leading back to the vocals and that final, foot stomping angry "La la la la, LALALALA LA! I HATE YOU!" And no, the studio version doesn't have it
Also when Miku says "Why don't you try to understand me" it's the guy making a feeble response.
Welcome to Band-Maid.
There’s actually a drum solo transition between Dice and Hate at Lolla, which is why they’re paired in that video.
They are one of my absolute favorite rock groups of the past five years since I came across them. So much talent and they have their own sound / style.
Thanks for reacting to the greatest band in the world! They sound amazing live. I've seen them live twice and am waiting impatiently for them to return to the States.
Welcome to BAND MAID! ... and they are ALL dressed as maids :) . You will not find a better hard rock band anywhere! Our MAIDs are best sampled LIVE as they are a performance band (kinda obvious now :p ).
BAND MAID is:
Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) - rhythm guitar, vocals, PR (Band founder, lyricist ... our flappy pigeon, po!)
Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) - lead guitar (musical composer extraordinaire - the princess)
Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) - drums, percussion (see bananas ... and ramen - the gorilla)
Misa - bass guitar (drinks hard liquor and performs without shoes on stage - the barefoot assassin)
Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) - lead vocals ("we dance in the palm of her hand" - Domination - The Queen)

@@curtisrrobles7885 Hey Curtis! Happy New Year!!!
@PANIC_aka_PinD HNY!!! ✨🎇🎆🧨🍾
Hell yeah, thanks!
MORE BAND MAID!!! You want a drum solo? "Freedom" live version 👍ruclips.net/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/видео.html
Happy New Year. Welcome aboard the B-M ride. Very few better ways to start a year really. As for B-M lore the Maidiacs will do that with glee and after a few songs, there's a 7 part documentary series done by a fan about the members and band which is excellent that will fill in all the lore blanks that remain.
Edit: honestly, at this point, growling vocals aside, the main difference between hard rock and metal these days seems to mainly be in how the guitars are tuned. Double bass etc is not all that uncommon in hard rock now for instance.
2:04 - Would recommend these BAND-MAID songs along with what's on your list:
- Freedom (2020 live)
- Warning! (MV)
- Secret MAIKO Lips (MV)
- Shambles (MV)
- Rinne (MV or 2020 live)
- From Now On (MV)
3:48 - Yes they play their own instruments and saying they're good is an understatement. BAND-MAID dabbles in different sub-genres of rock so there is something for everyone.
6:15 - Their maid costumes have been evolving over the years to what you see now (more subtle). It's poetic as the band's founder, Miku (pigtails with red rose) is the only one left wearing an obvious maid costume. Also, everything is dialed up to 11 as this concert (November 2023) was BAND-MAID's 10-year anniversary celebration. They're happy to perform at smaller venues like House of Blues and music festivals like Lollapalooza when touring the United States.
11:28 - Not only does the bass guitarist get screen time, BAND-MAID gives all members a chance to shine. The bass player, MISA (aka The Barefoot Assassin), alternates between slap and pick while performing. You see this up close in their 2020 live version of Domination.
14:30 - BAND-MAID's lyrics are often uplifting and inspiring but this song is an exception (basically someone wronged a friend of the lead singer, Saiki "sy-kee").
15:25 - This first song is DICE which is definitely reaction-worthy (MV or 2020 live).
Thank you for the info! I’m excited to hear more!
@@ShadeReactsLive Or honestly, you can pick songs at random and they'll be great.
What @@Kevin6059 is saying sounds insane, can't be possible... but it's absolutely true. They don't make any throw-away songs, every single one of them has a tremendous amount of care, thought, and design that goes into making them great.

Best band in the world man. They took over my top five bands in sheer number of songs I love. They beat out AcDc, Beatles, INXS, and more. I don't blame the Lala crowd for not moving around a lot, it was nearly a 100 degrees out.
The costumes have evolved in individual directions. Miku Kobato, founder, rhythm guitar, backing (and sometimes primary) vocals, main lyricist, pigeon, poker player, and horse racing enthusiast, is the only member still in the maid cafe look. (Did I miss anything Gary?) Thanks for the reaction!
Eventually you will realise that Misa on the bass guitar is soloing in nearly every Band-Maid song :P

Band-Maid, Lovebites, and King Gizzard are the coolest bands of the modern era that I've discovered in the last 7 or 8 years. Still my top 3. F'ing love Band-Maid.
The Lollapalooza performance was only the second time they'd performed that particular arrangement of "Hate?". They premiered it the night before at the after party of day one. The festival actually streamed their set and they had multiple cameras. The director unfortunately was completely unfamiliar with the band and had no clue who to focus on when. The official live was from the final performance of their 10th anniversary performance at Yokohama Arena. The whole show is available on DVD/BD if you want to dig into the entire 33 song performance.
The extended solo section was debuted in one of their July shows in Japan. I think they played it at all 4.
@@_DriveTime Exactly. The show they did the night before Lollapalooza was just the first time they played it that way in the US
8/2023 I saw the Lollapalooza Dice-Hate? video and it was my first encounter with Band-Maid. Been down the "pigeon" hole ever since. Akane is the drummer and is always smiling as she drums. Freedom live is the most popular mv that has her solo. Enjoy and thanks for the reaction.
That guitar is a Miku's Signature Zemaitis Guitar, "The Flappy Pigeon".
I think they are the best rock band in the world today!
11 years ago, in the very beginning of the band they all wore matching maid outfits. Over the years they've each customized their "Battle Gear" to suit their own personalities. BTW, MISA, the bassist, is the Barefoot Assassin.
Band-Maid, a real hidden gem of talent. I've been listening to hard rock/metal since the early 70's & this group is by far the one that has kept my head banging for the last few years. They mix many genres with their flavor of talent. You can't go wrong with any of their 10+year catalog. For a more Heavy sound I would suggest 'Moratorium' or 'Rinne'.
Band-Maid they are wolves in maid outfits , don't judge a band by it's cover they will surprise you . Check out Band-Maid REAL EXISTENCE (Official Live Video) . Must be Live . Put on your seat belt . Make sure you tell your friends . Welcome to the team .
I'd say it's acceptable to do the MV for REAL EXISTENCE first, if then only to go on to the live for comparison, so you have some idea of what sort of train is about to smash into your face.
Thanks for the reaction Shade, welcome to the world of Band maid!
Thank you!

Happy New Year! Welcome to the world of Band-Maid. On your list, I would recommend Domination official live as the next song. That or Freedom official live which is not on your list. You will like both as they both have drum solos, Freedom has a longer one. Regarding their sound, I classify them as hard rock rather than heavy metal. I saw them in a small venue called Club Quattro in Hiroshima. It was amazing! I'm looking forward to seeing them again on May 17th this year. Enjoy the ride!
Puzzle, Akward, Thrill, Bestie plus 130 more great songs
oooh didn't know this band, its dope !
*_Here are some more songs from female fronted Japanese hard rock bands:_*
*_”We Love Sweets” & “Tousou” by Hanabie_*
*_”Cry Out” & “Spoopy” by Trident_*
*_”Choose Me” & “Shambles” by BAND-MAID_*
*_”Revive” & “Rise” by Nemophila_*
*_”天下五剣“ & “Start Our Journey” by Hagane_*
*_”FLAVOR OF BLUE” & “SIREN” by PassCode_*
I would add following to the list.
East of Eden "Evolve" or "Chasing the Moon"
Aldious "We Are" "Sweet Temptation" or "Myself"
Band Maid "From now on"
And some of the Band Maid acoustic stuff like Puzzle live at Zepp or Sayonakidori
Though Not a fan of Hanabie myself.
6:54 Yep, those lyrics were translated correctly.
Harsh words towards a friend's cheating husband.
When Misa (bass) joined the band, she refused to wear the maid costume. She also plays barefoot. And she loves drinking, A LOT. WE LOVE HER 🖤
Not true. She did not feel comfortable but she did wear a maid outfit. Please see the OMV Thrill to see her in shoes and a maid uniform. Looks weird.
Drum solo? Try “Freedom” (Official Live)
Saiki----vocals Miku----guitar/vocals and founder Akane----drums Kanami----lead guitar Misa (the barefoot assassin)-----bass Best band on the planet!
Can’t blame the camera men. The camera director for Lollapalooza 2023 had clearly never directed live rock music before.
For sure, he/she was unku used to follow pop singers around and was not prepared for a REAL band.
Great reaction, Shade, subbed! You caught a lot of details for a first time reaction. Nice. I'm really looking forward to seeing more Band-Maid reactions from you.
The word on that note you commented on is "janai" which is the negation term like "Not" in English. So the phrase more literally translated is "That will work... NOT!"
Hate was written during the COVID lockdown about a friend’s boyfriend who was cheating on the friend. The stadium version was the end of their 10th anniversary tour celebration.
Nice reaction!! I would recommend you go with official live ones whenever possible! Other than that, just have fun!
At the end of the day, metal is rock played faster and usually louder. I wouldn't call Band-Maid a metal band (I admit I don't know them too deep), but it seems the path of music nowadays is blurring the lines between genres and mixing them without prejudices, which is really good. The result is, the genres are not so important, but the talent, and these girls have it in abundance.
Kanami (lead guitarist) composes majority of the music, and Miku writes most of the lyrics to their music. Though they all participate in the process of most of the songs.
One unique thing about Band Maid is Miku's Omajinai Time. A little intermission type show she does between sets where she does some audience participation work, that is really worth looking at sometime.
Welcome!! I knew that this would be the natural progression of things following on from BABYMETAL... and I am exceptionally happy about that. Be prepared for many more WTF moments... that is something these phenomenal ladies specialise in. As you will find out, these ladies seem to compliment one another amazingly!! In my humble opinion, for the most part, BAND-MAID are best enjoyed live!! Thank you for the reaction... and very happy to see the ladies of Hanabie on the list, be prepared!! 🔥 ❤
11 years and 130+ songs of pure greatness 🔥❤️ They have it all..Passion Work Heart Talent Groove. Magical band, amazing musicians, best friends. For me..Greatest band of our time 🔥❤️ Thank you for reacting. Greets from Finland 🇫🇮🤘
Nice reaction.. now you have more than a thousand subscribers, congratulations!
From Japan
BAND-MAID is a five-member girl rock band. This year marks their 12th anniversary. The members have not changed. They are a hard rock band and are considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually have 23 songs and 2 hours of live performances. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Miku had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo, and came up with the idea of playing cool music in maid outfits. That's why the band was named BAND-MAID. "Thrill" was their first music video in 2014, and six months later, it suddenly achieved 2 million views in two weeks, avoiding disbandment and deciding to become a hard rock band. They have also performed overseas and are gaining more fans. Currently, they write, compose, and arrange all of their songs themselves. They have 140 original songs. They have 60 songs published on their official You Tube, and all of them are killer songs.
Official videos are often not blocked.

They did win over the Lollapalooza crowd in the end. Hanabie did the same in 2023 - some of that footage was really good too.
Hulu contract camera people at the Chicago lolapalooza
These girls are totally crazy. Wonderful musicians and personas. They have so much to listen to. And it is very different. They have fantastic instrumental tracks. They have groovy stuff, hard stuff and prog stuff. One thing is common for most of their music. All members add something important. No one is really backing musician or singer. Not entirely at least. As personas they are goofy and vary serious at the same time. They live for this. And they really love each other and the audience.
There is so much to recommend and you will get all kind of recommendations. I will only give you three (although I could easily write down 20)
* HONKAI - Live - its a new song and it is total madness. So fun. And so unexpected. Why not put the bass and the drummer as lead?
* From now on - MV - one of their fantastic instrumental tracks.
* Manners and Black Hole - Covid Studio Live - two songs - one super groovy bass driven and one complex and prog and fast where every band member is lead.
I recommend adding Gacharic Spin to your list of bands to check out. Try the MindSet music video to start with, perhaps. Also you'll love Babymetal's Rondo of Nightmare (with Mischief of Metal Gods intro, recorded at the Budokan).
Re: maid uniforms: they all originally wore "standard" Maid Café uniforms, but started modifying them and are now wearing things more loosely inspired by uniforms. Saiki (singer) almost immediately tore off the apron on hers (they recruited her without telling her about the uniforms, because they were worried she wouldn't join if she knew...).
It was a smart decision to involve fashionista "SAIKI".
Welcome to Maidiacs,
Our maids calls their music impossible hard rock but their music touch on heavy metal, jass, rap, and more.
Bandmaid is one of the best live rock band right now and running strong 11 years. Be prepared to fall into the pigon hole, it will be a wild and exciting ride.
Thanks for reacting to our addiction band!
It's worth searching "Rolling Stone bandmaid Lopalooza" for the review. The journo was in heaven. Best not to spoil with quotes except that a lot of bro musicians were seriously butt hurt.
things related to or inspirations for this song are Bart Simpson,Jim Beam,Tigers,trains,bananas,810 year old Pigeon, coffee ,cake, gorillas and Frederic Chopin..GREAT reaction PO!!!!🕊🍌🍻☕🚂
Band-Maid are friends with Babymetal's original Kami Band.
I’ve heard the difference between metal and rock at least in the guitars is that metal guitars are often more a more straight drumline-esque composition, whereas rock guitars have more of a swing back and forth; a rocking back and forth, if you will.
How many more did you say you have on your list , 4 ? hahahahahahhahaha. You may just find it'll get a bit longer, like 120 songs longer 😁
As great as they all are, without Miku leading this it doesn't work. Her hard work, lyrics and tenacious way this doesn't work.listen to Misa and then listen to Flea of the chili pepper and you'll find her influence
One of the most crucial things to know about bandmaid is the quote from singer Saiki "people say we're so close it's creepy" shows in everything about them.
👍Welcome to the wonderful world of BAND-MAID😊. They rock🔥🔥. 🖖❤
You’ve stumbled upon a winner with Band Maid! As I’m now 71, I’ve followed some pretty big bands including the Beatles, Led Zep, Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd. I thought my rock band fandom had come to an end when Rush broke up, then I luckily was directed to Band Maid by other Rush fans. I’m now utterly obsessed and I can’t get enough of these ladies. If you want a drum solo, try ‘Freedom’ official live video. Akane, the drummer, is much admired by Jimmy Page.
Welcome to the world of Band-Maid. They have been together since 2013 and have around 140 songs in their discography. If you want to go back a ways try these, "Real Existence" live, "Choose Me" live, "Play" live. For MVs try "Dice," "Alone," or "Rinne." Enjoy the ride.
There are way more than 5 songs to recommend for BAND-MAID. They aren't the greatest of all time - no band is, how would you even qualify that - but they're my FAVORITE of all time. Their genre range is pretty cool, be it in terms of full songs, or just parts inside of songs. There will be time you'll catch yourself on first listen, "Wait, was that JAZZ?" and then they've moved on. They're just so Fn cool.
Regarding the maid dress,
They originally all had maid dresses. Something you can see in their very early MV for Thrill.
But they have slowly evolved away from pure maid dresses. Only Miku now has a proper maid dress.
The maid theme is all her idea and it was she that founded BAND-MAID. She called the dresses "the gap". The gap between hard rock and cute girls in cute dresses.
There is a fun story there. When enlisting the singer Saiki she was not told about the maid dress. They kept it secret. And if they had told it she would not even had consider it.
Then, when they should do dress rehearsal she was shocked and furious. But it was too late.
And she and MISA, the bassist, were the two first to skip maid dresses. Neither of them fancied the idea.
Welcome, Shade. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 220 million YT views, plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (144 songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 80 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ruclips.net/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/видео.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, You, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, The One, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Protect You, Sense, Different, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ruclips.net/video/7LB_EPS48HE/видео.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:

If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, live streams, CD, DVD/BD & merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 33 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 33 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 34 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 32 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.

As far as BabyMetal, still my Favorite. ruclips.net/video/xtHBcL6vbVA/видео.htmlsi=yNrjrp_DRcnuZ1RB. Metal Kingdom. PIA. And Divine Attack ruclips.net/video/INRPP78SvXs/видео.htmlsi=2HqKFMrlgFlJu8O0
Thanks BTW. Nice job on the dissection of the performances. And….Metal Kingdom. Momo gets her Mic for the first time live. What a thrill.
Both performances are from 2023. Lollapalooza was June. The BAND-MAID 10th Anniversary tour at Yokohama Arena was live streamed in November. They were the first band to take the Coinbase stage that Friday. The camera crew and director for the Chicago live stream probably had more experience filming DJs and Pop stars. The three-hour YoAre “one-man” event was captured by multiple professional camera operators and is available on Blu-ray.
FYI Lollapalooza was Aug 4.
@@_DriveTime Can confirm, I had to miss it as I was running games at GenCon that day!
