      5 kari, thayir pachadi,mangai pachadi, inchi manga, karuvepilai thugayal, ell urundai,, pasi paupu urundai,vadai ,vellalpam, kodumai halwa, then kuzhal, milagu rasam, poricha kootu, moorkuzhambu, 3 pazham, avolo dhan. No thengai. And sradha samayal is different for each family. Enga Thanjavur , kumbakonam vadhima samayal veetuku veedu maaru padum.

    Namaskarams to Anna and Amma I am from Chennai grt fan of Amma ,u both have become a part of our lives . Anna before u end the season 2 can u pl ask am a to include a small video on what recipes to prepare when our daughter s reach puberty . I want to give her all what I can so that she remains healthy and in future she would have no problem . I heard they prepare some lehiyam and some other preparations on account of this .     Mami, i loved your devasham tips. I have also been doing shradhan for my inkaws for 15 yrs now. But i have never been able to cook myself. Aoways had a mami. It sounds so simple the way you shared the method. Thank.you.

    Mami. I always arrage cook for thevasam. But have felt that this samayal is easy. My cook makes jaggery syrup and she prepares athirasam, yelu urundai and halwa. So, kindly let me know what consistency of the syrup will be apt for these three bakshanams. And we dont use coconut. So, what proportion of pepper, jeera should be taken for preparing the powder. I also want to know the salt requirement for all the items. Please explain. Thank you.

    As you are soaking for appam after taking bath, kindly let me know at what time you wake up in the morning of Shraddham day. I start kitchen work after taking bath, at 6 a.m. If I soak for appam at that time, I will be able to grind at 10 a.m. Vaadiyar comes to our house at 10.30 a m. There is no other lady in our house. I do the Samayal all alone.

    Have to agree on one statement that you said Maami. The easiest food to make is thevasam chamaiyal. I have never understood why people choose hiranya srardham than the paarvana roopam style

      Samaika bayam dhan. Nangalam amma, mamiyar samaikara podhu koodave training kodupa. Vazhakathai kathuko nu solluva. Ippo naney thaniya en mamiyar uku 1 varusham sodhambam, maasiyam samaichen without no one help.

      @@rajeswarinatarajan5295 That works in some cases but also porandhaam and pukkam vazhakkams are too different. My mother was adept at both (and even her mother-in-law's porandhaam) and was gifted that way and so is this maami here. Rest learn it the way my wife did. All I meant to say was it is not that difficult to learn this and it is so much easy

    Thank you soo much foor this. We did our shraddham in bombay and since I lost my parents at a very young age I am used to performing devasham from a young age. I live abroad now so only perform devasham if i happen to be India and the rituals have been simplified. I do have bit of controversial question. As a teen and young man and liberal person growing up in Mumbai it was the purity rules that was bit irksome. I don't mean the dietary purity but the rules of touchability. Once our maid happened to come in after the devasham had started. We forgot to inform her or she forgot but she just walked intoo our flat and the priest (vadyar) was so rude. He admonished us for allowing a non-brahmin into the flat on that day.. He said idhu 'pavam'. I was sadened when I saw that and was bit annoyed at that priest. I am sure my parents (both deceased) would not mind non-brahmins coming iinto that house whereever they are.
    I am curious to know hear Mami's views on it and whether its ok to follow just food purity rules but not caste rules on the day of devasham ??

      @@Agrahararecipes Thanks. I also feel we should feed any hungry person that day and not just brahmins. I too don't believe in caste but I do love the tradition of honoring our ancestors and take that day to think of them and where we come from.

      @VIJAYA LAKSHMI RANGARAJAN thanks. I would take it a step further and let the maid work on that day as well like any other day and even feed her the same food like we do the other days. In mumbai our maids are maharashtrian women and there is only so much we can explain thitu or pathu to them as its bit confusing to us as well. I just apply human rules and move on and the vadyars I think are somewhat flexible these days though its still apprached very cautiously in oour home. Maid comes in after the vadyar has left. We also have intercaste marriages in our family so its kkinda becoming bit difficult to know boundaries without getting offensive about it. My only fear is not losing the tradition itself. Its a great tradition og honoring the dead that we have.

    This is a very informative post. This devasam practice is fading away slowly due to lack of knowledge and guidance.
    There are mild differences in Iyer and iyengar devsam cooking.
    Iyengars dont use manjal ,sugar and green chillies. We make bakshanam like thengozhal,soji appam and suyyam ( all 3 mandatory) some people make appam or adhirasam in place of sojji appam .

    Mainly bakshanam menu preparation will be very helpful. I saw ellurundai recipe. Can u pls share for halwa, adhirasam and payatham urundai. Need kaai, porichakozhambu, masiyal, rasam as well. I think posting Srardham full course samayal will be very helpful for people staying abroad, because we dont get cook like in Chennai. Also pls tell mami, that she has beem biggest tutor for learning our authentic recipes. She spreads so much of positivity when she begins her video with "Vazhga valamudan". Thank you mami.     Hello Ganesh Anna and Patti. My mother-in-law passed away even before my wedding and my FIL does not know what to cook and what not and unfortunately both my husband and I are single child. Amma oda devasam ippo phanguni masam la varum. For the last two years since my wedding, I have just been doing whatever I could do according to vathiyar's instruction here in the US. This time we managed to get a place where we can do full fledged devasam with homam and a vathiyar for sapadu. This video is very useful for me to cook for devasam. I will follow whatever Gita Patti says in the forthcoming videos. Please convey my heartfelt thanks to Gita Patti and thanks Anna. Both my husband and I are very thankful to you both.
