    I am a commercial glazer by trade. When I ran a service van, I would see all sorts of... "ingenuitive" ways of installing or fixing storfront doors. Never seen this, but I can see the utility of it if you don't have the ability to mortise out the pockes and install backing plates. Seems to have held up well.
    Love the door dolly. I would make working alone so much easier.
    Keep up the good work.

      I’m glad to hear I’m in amongst a person that knows a lot about storefront doors. I have personally never seen anything like that myself. It really blew my brain out it did hold real nicely and what was holding up that bottom hinge. Someone had screwed the opposite direction when they were installing that jamb and ran into the back of the hinge which wouldn’t allow it to come out. What a bother became Otherwise it would’ve been a few 20 minutes to do the job and I’m just thinking maybe they never knew about hinge preps back 80 years ago thanks for tuning into the channel and commenting. I love feedback it helps me know that what I’m showing is relevant to some degree to some people, you enjoy yourself now try to not lift up too heavy of Doors even though aluminum store fronts aren’t really that heavy. You can still let them get away from you in the wind and that wouldn’t be good. Have a wonderful night. Thanks for your comment.

      That DOORSET tool patented in the year 2000. It’s called Doorset model 2000. once in a while, they come up on eBay or craigslist
      I discontinued or stopped manufacturing them in 2018 just before Covid hit sold off all the machinery and close the company down still have all the specifications on how to build it though it was made out of aircraft aluminum 601 T6 completely Tig welded and the top part of the tool is hingely attached so it folds up. I did love manufacturing it. It was all powder coated and I sold them all over the world so keep your eye out. Maybe they’ll come up for sale. They are a lifetime tool many people that owned them were Locksmith companies they would buy them from me, if you pass by an old Locksmith company ask them if they’ll sell you theirs. It is a must have tool. I wouldn’t leave home without it. I have the last remaining new model. The only doors that was put in It was that aluminum storefront door and of all things a residential door, the tool will lift 400 pounds of behemoth 2 1/4 x 4’ or 5’ x 10’ tall it really is amazement to see it in action. You won’t need anyone to help you.

    I use an impact screwdriver (harbor freight has it for $9.99). It works great on frozen and seized up screws. The center punch or chisel on the edge works as last resort but that impact screwdriver usually works. I’ve never seen anyone use those kinda hinges on aluminum store fronts. Their usually the top and bottom pivot hinges or continuous hinges. I need to get one of those door setters! Thanks for sharing!

      Well, here’s the backstory on that video if they really is a backstory the guy that I was working for owns that jewelry shop. He had a vice in there and I use that Vice He wanted me to shoot his jewelry store and do some more video inside there, but I was so green that Ididn’t know this, because if you’re shooting video, you probably should know this if A radio is playing in the background. It has proprietary music on it. You can’t use the video so I was ruined. The set up was to use his vice in his shop. That’s what he wanted me to do, but he had his radio going so I had to ditch 90% of that video boo-hoo for me

    I'm a little confused, after taking the hinges out and just replacing the screws, how did the door raise up? I have the same problem installing a new floor and have to either raise the door or cut off part of the bottom? I don't think it can be raised if it all.... Have you ever cut off like a quarter inch off this type of door?

    • @doorandlocktips
      @doorandlocktips  2 месяца назад +1

      If it’s butt hinges, they’re on the other side of the lock. There’s sometimes called Butt hinges then you have to cut the bottom of the door or shim the bottom hinge out, and it will raise the tip of the door that’s closest to the latch, but they regular aluminum storefront doors and they have pivots there’s a nut on the bottom of the door, pivot, turn counterclockwise and it will come up believe me. There’s a lot of scenarios if you wanna cut an aluminum storefront door you use a 4 inch planer and swipe across the bottom of the door you know on sawhorses and take your time very slowly. Small passes work best

    • @doorandlocktips
      @doorandlocktips  2 месяца назад +1

      I took the threshold out and they had shim the threshold up so I took the shims out. The door still cleared the floor and then I reattached the threshold with about 3/16 clearance that’s how I did this one. There’s so many ways of doing this.

    • @doorandlocktips
      @doorandlocktips  9 месяцев назад +1

      It looks like you could do that from a outside point of view but
      I wish it was as easy as that I had to bend one leaf knuckles not both at the same time those hinge, Dr tools can’t be used on that type of aluminum set up hinge, preps Those hinges are set in a slot and it didn’t allow the force of that tool to keep from breaking the aluminum week preps. I had to take hinges out otherwise I could’ve just used adjustable wrench to bend on the knuckles in place of the hinge, Dr, you really would’ve had to been there. Thanks for your comment. check out the rest of my videos get some popcorn, canna, cold soda, set back and enjoy🥶

      @@stephenzies8867 send me one of those bad boys so I can test it out next time. All I had was a hammer and a wrench. I originally talked to that hinge doctor guy back around 2002. I couldn’t see any use for them because they bend the knuckles in such a way that the leaves don’t close, it over stresses, the hinge prep and the hinge prep breaks by cracking the spot welds but I would like to have one just for test purposes so to speak ha ha if you got an extra one send it my way I would sure appreciate it

      You’re right I should have vice in the truck but I just don’t know where to put it. They’re so big and bulky I rarely bend hinges if hardly ever never been them. I’ve got a teeny one that clamps onto my cart, but it’s virtually useless got it from Lowe’s. I need to mount a good one in the truck. My truck is totally full of tools though just for lock and door stuff, check out my other videos of my truck, when I say Truck, I mean Van I’m plum out of space where would you put it?
