@@WatchJRGo Extremely lucky there was no knock. Hopefully that holds out after the Ninja gets a look at the bearing seat on the crank. I recently spent MULTIPLES of that quote to do rod bearings on an E46 M3 (and a lot of preventative stuff you may as well do when doing that much work). Once that knock starts there's no saving the crank and that of course means full engine-out. $3K for damn near anything on an M car is a cheap repair. The car will be a steal if it ends up being sub-$10K, let alone sub-$8K.

They are not that fragile but people run them 8000 rpm all day, don't follow maintenance according to bmw, put cheap oil out of standards, cheap filters etc and spend all day hammering them sideways. What are people expecting? of course they gonna fail. I'm surprised the gearbox isn't blown too...probably the previous owners never did maintenance to it...it's a miracle the gearbox survived.
I had 4 bmw's in all my life, always did their maintenance myself, always according to bmw, used bmw workshop manuals, recommended oils/filters, bmw insta D/P, eSYS for programming and errors etc. Never had 1 single failure in more than 20 years.

Was a pain when I converted my E92 328i Wagon into a 335i, basically stripped them both down to nothing and did a complete swap of everything so the computer wouldn't know the difference. May not have had to do something that radical but I had to tear the wagon down to swap over the interior anyway so two birds one stone.

This comment will probably get lost, but I do hope you see it, John. When you do the oil change, put some MoS2 additive in the engine. Liqui Moly Oil Additive is the name in the Europe and it does wonders. It forms a layer on all surfaces and in case of an oil pressure drop or oil not being where it should be, it protects the engine. It's also good for slightly worn and vulnerable engines like yours is.
I've been using it for years, both on the road and on the track and it's a must have for all my cars, both for engine and for gears.

Honestly man, I'm jealous. The E63 M6 became my dream car when it came out and still is. Congrats on the fairly clean M6 and if you decide to sell it for under 15k, I want to be first on the list lol.

That price he gave you blows my mind very reasonable for a M6

If I had known someone like Car Ninja when I owned my 2007 BMW, maybe I would still have it.

Wow... it may just turn out that your M6 is a diamond in the rough! Well, maybe not a diamond... but a cubic zirconium in the rough! What are the odds that Wichita, Kansas would have both a Car Wizard and a Car Ninja serving their community? Thanks for posting!

Those sideskirts horrendous same with the cheap wing, but a big wing wouldn't be bad on this car, and a legit front splitter too, downforce for the track would always be dope but ghotta be done right.

SO JR ...your always in need of a lift ? How about putting an addition on the house of about a story and a half to accommodate a lift ? Maybe have it look like a 2nd story from the outside for the neighbors ? Or is it just too expensive , or maybe you live in a development and they just won't let you ?

You need to keep a supply of cardboard ( appliance box sides ) on hand to put on the floor. And use cardboard flats ( beer flats ) to hold parts removed from the project. Keep the mess contained, throw the mess away.

I'm guessing this car's original MSRP ran into six figures. The 2006 to 2008 M6's in decent resale condition are still selling for good money. This Beamer has excellent potential, and with your skills and a few specialists backing you, I wouldn't be talking this down so much. Your initial instincts were good.
