      Michigan Foot Doctors I’m getting a knee scooter I broke my ankle and had plates and screws put in on October 1st

      Just had a knee scooter delivered today after fracturing my ankle. Have had surgery, plate and screws, now in a fibreglass cast until 1st June, then probably an aircast boot. Crutches were a complete fail and my zimmer frame is slow and cumbersome, so I'm trying this. Gave it a brief go earlier, feels very strange and I need practice, but looking forward to scooting about everywhere.

    Pay attention to the steering: cheap knee scooters can tip over. The Knee Rover has a steering system that won't let the unit tip over.

    I know this is an old video however knee scooters are PERFECT for indoor use! If you need to stay off your foot, a walker is not going to allow that. A knee scooter allows that.

    Great video, I wish I would have watched this before I ordered my knee scooter. What scooter with all-terrain tires would you recommend? I broke my foot and I'd like to go back to the office and the scooter I purchased doesn't perform well over gravel or crossing the street.

      I got a BodyMed all terrain knee scooter and it’s great. Good for cracked concrete, door lintels, uneven terrain. Little pricey but worth it.

    So which scooters are recommended? There is no list. I live in tight spaces and need one durable forni side outside. They are NOT cheap. MediCal doesnt cover them either.

    I am 70 yrs. old, was in a very bad car accident. The doctors had to repair my whole foot bones, and heal. Just started to walk
    again, i have a walker. But in the video, you say healthy young people, so can this knee walker work for my age? thanks

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  4 года назад +2

      In general if balance and strength issues, tipping over is for sure a concern. A walker or wheelchair may be a safer option. But age is just a number, its all about how you do with it!

    Get an Iwalk. I tried both crutches and a knee walker and neither comes close to the mobility of the Iwalk. Being able to use stairs is a game changer.

      Unfortunately we can't give online advice for specific problems, make sure to get checked out in person and imaging if you are really worried! Sorry we couldn't be more helpful!

      We really appreciate that you came to us for help and we really wish we could help and see you in person. Unfortunately there are rules preventing an answer online, and this could be dangerous to your without having specific information.
      A problem of this nature really does require a proper history and physical. By getting non-specific advice online, it really can make your problem worse.
      For a problem this complex and with so many variables, you really would benefit most from seeing a podiatrist in person.
      Thank you so much for being a fan and we hope to make better and more educational videos in the future!

    Medicare doesn’t cover knee scooters. I called Medicare personally. You can rent them but they’re 130 per month!

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  10 месяцев назад

      Correct, things are getting worse every year. You can buy a scooter for less than the rental price. Welcome to health care in America!

    In British Columbia, Canada (a universal health care country), rolling knee scooters are not covered. I am paying $45 PER WEEK to rent one. Not a happy camper.

      It's not really covered in USA either, 75% of insurances sneak it into some later copay or coinsurance fee

      Michigan Foot Doctors I haven’t gotten my scooter yet I had spinal cord injury in 2008 so my legs are pretty weak so using my regular walker tires me out fast so I prefer my wheelchair to using my walker
