This made me sad. It was a bitter/sweet day when he left the Oregon Coast Aquarium for Iceland. I knew Keiko and loved him. He was my friend and I was fortunate to get to play with him every day at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I'd like to see his resting place someday. It breaks my heart how he died. I truly believe that he died from a broken heart. I know that he had pneumonia but I believe it was brought on by his loneliness. He loved people so much. Too bad they just didn't let him stay in the big bay pen in Iceland and take him for walks daily instead of just cutting it with him towards the end. But I know that they were under a lot of pressure to make this work and I know they wanted him to find his family but he just wanted to be with people. He was like a giant puppy. He was really special. R.I.P. big guy. I know you are swimming in the oceans of heaven with your family.
Hi. I agree with you that he died from a broken heart. When he arrived in Norway, he appeared in front of a boat with children on board. They were fishing. When they saw him, they got scared and went back to the marina and Keiko followed them there. The children jumped and then swam with him. They, at that time, didn't know it was the famous Free Willy. I wrote a long post about Keiko on my FB (in my native language) and I cried many times while writing it. Happy to know that my short video has reached many people who had personally seen him.
I am 28 years old and just to see this video made me cry when I was a little girl I would watch all the movies about him and even had a stuffed free willy I would sleep with at night thinking he would keep me safe being in my room alone I will always love u willy rest in peace
This made me very emotional. Beautiful video. He is finally free and happy! I’m 35 years old, I visited him a few times as a kid in reino ventura (six flags) in Mexico City. He was a huge part of my childhood with free Willy as well ❤️
30 years old now, and my family still say how much I loved him as a child , rip keiko ,just wish they never let him out the pen he loved people, 20 years around people everyday and they in the big open sea on his own ,i think he die of a broken heart , hopefully his happy now
I believe we all get to chose our own real homes..somewhere we can grieve and grow and just be free. He obviously found this for himself. Such a spiritual creature. Happy for you keiko. Such a beautiful resting place. Swim free laddy
What a loved orca. Think about all he’s been through and how many times he was moved. He lived longer when he was rescued than before the movie. Yes it stinks he didn’t see his family and was held captive for all these years but think he got 5 years of ocean. He swam with wild orcas.
This has me bawling my eyes out, I had only ever seen close up photos never the surrounding area, so now seeing just what a beautiful place it is where he was laid to rest makes me cry, what an absolutely beautiful and peaceful resting place, may you forever sleep in peace Keiko, my heart will always be your home, your ocean 🤍 🖤 🤍 thank you so much for sharing your visit to Keiko’s resting place with us 💙
Made me very sad that he passed, after all the fight it was to get him finally free😪 but at least he was free and got to live and swim as he so chose. we will all always kiss and love him🌹❤️🙏😪 RIP KEIKO, you were loved by so many.
Thank you for this video 💔🙏 I truly believe it was Keiko story that started it all in Free Willy then the movement to set him free. Decades later I can't believe that all countries haven't banned cetacean captivity #promisetonotbuyaticket #emptythetanks
This is so sad. I detest the part of humanity that believes we are superior to beings such as Keiko. We are not. We are all earthlings. Humans had no right to rip Keiko from the waters near Iceland and keep him in some small tank for decades. What a tragedy. #FreeKiska
Another example how cruel some people are Keiko born free but some greedy individuals violent trap him and separate him from his family forever to go to a pool to perform and do treats. Sad really sad unfortunately are too many like him .
@@eliasmayasadventures6503 i hate zoos and amusement parks..they capture wildlife animals when they should just be left alone. nice vid..sad but thanks for sharing
It’s cool that an Orca as famous as Keiko was giving a Viking Burial. Over the years, fans of Keiko would come to his grave and leave a burial stone to add to his cairn. A small, but fitting tribute to the world’s most famous whale.
Free Willy for me is my definitive childhood film. It probably remains my most favorite film and I’m 17 now. I feel like I have a connection with him despite never actually getting to see him alive and only finding out about him after his death. Thinking about him and how he passed away and is gone legit makes me sad and cry mind you I’m a 17 year old teenage boy. I just hope he knew we loved him and passed away knowing that and that people fought for him. I hope he found some sorta peace and I hope he’s up there in the skies swimming God looking down smiling
He was lost. He could not find his original family and no other pod would accept him. It is very sad but at least he was able to enjoy freedom and go where he wanted to go. Freedom, being able to make your own choices is great. Hope he had some happiness.
Unfortunately this is only his memorial place ( Halsa) the exact place where they buried him they don’t wanna say because they wanna let him rest in peace. It close by this place but it was a meadow they said. And only 7 people knew where is it exactly. Rest in peace my old friend from my childhood ❤ greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

Keiko's grave in Norway is like visiting the tomb of a famous person, like Jim Morrison's tomb in Pere Lachaise of Paris, France. Keiko's grave should be one of Norway's famous landmarks.
Terrible comparison. Keiko wasn't a hippie drug addict waste of space. His cairn is a cautionary tale. An animal raised in human care should not be abandoned in the wild to fend for itself, alone. We are responsible for them for their entire lives. Never Again.
You can take a flight to Kristiansund, Norway. From there you can drive. Takes around 30 mins from the town center to Keiko's grave. But you have to wait until covid restriction is over.

Pneumonia (probably from catching an infection from another wild orca he had no imune resistance to). But by the time his caretakers realized he had such a severe infection, it was too late.
I hope I can make my dream come true and visit him next year, I'm already planning the trip, I'm from Mexico, thank you for uploading this video. Is the road dangerous with all the snow while driving?

i agree with you.
Long live keiko, the one true Willy
Even though he never fully became wild again, at least when Keiko died, the whale, that we once knew as Willy, was free.

"Honouring" him by taking selfies. That would be disrespectful in any cemetery.
When people think their doing right, but really hurting instead🥺

Yes, it is an old Viking tradition to bury under stones.
U a the best
Can you tell me where it exactly is? Because I'm going to Norway also and wanna to visit his grave 😢
it is near Kristiansund, Norway. U can take a flight there, then can drive to the site.

Our guest trainer...Dawn. A week later she was killed by Tillicum!

Tillikum never harmed another trainer at SeaWorld, before or after Dawn. That speaks volumes. She trained Alex Fernandez. 1+1=2.
That pile looks small...Keiko was pretty big, so I have a couple of questions :/
That is just the "grave Marker" I think. Keiko's body is presumably buried several feet under ground and the rocks just mark where his grave is.

How do they know it was that whale?
Keiko's dorsal fin drooped over instead of standing straight up, the same with this so they just knew it was him.
Also he had three freckles on his chin
So... keiko is burried there?
Yes 😊
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Iyou didnt say the town or country
Sorry about that. It is in Norway 😊
It's in Hansa. I am in Norway now. Restrictions are over if you had your injections.
Wouldn’t his body area be larger then that? Proof he’s using er the rubble or did they actually dig a hole and bury him?
I don't know but they gave him a traditional viking burial
💖🐳💖😢

Why didn’t they just let him be in the water to be food for the crabs?
I have no idea. But he was buried the viking way.
