Male orcas are typically fed by their mothers even into adulthood, so without his family he needed a surrogate feeder.

There are so many liey surrounding Keiko. I am very careful what to believe and what not!! Keiko was a huge thret to the whole industry!! And when he shiwed up in Norway Sea World immeadtly asked the Norweigian goverment for a permit to catch him!!! That is a huge red flag for me and a fes days later he died, he was given antibiotic's and nobody really know's why he died!!
Than the other side (the real sientist's who are against captivity)- I do not believe they would lie, but they are also "sweet talking" tge situation. I do not know what to believe, bug it does not matter now.
There are sucsessfully rehabilitaded dolphin's tbrough sea pen's with human care, which are now in the wild. Wzy should this not work for orca's?? The plan, everything is ready but the marineland's keep them alone untill they die before letting one of them go and they all die at max half of their lifespan a terrible death.
Why not give them a chance to swimm in a seapen with human care???

In Mexico he would have died in a few month, so he got healthier and happy. The problem is that they never found his real family, because SW pulled the young orca's out of the ocean without even thinking about from where they were.
Was Keiko's family really from Iceland or are they Norweigan orca's and that is why he showed up there, but when he saw human's, he got destracted again.
Interesting is: the moment Keiko showed up in Norway, SeaWorld asked the Norweigan government for a permit to catch him and put him back in captivity. Thank God the government said No and than suddenly he died. What a coinsidence??

Do you think his mom is still alive? I would think much like Stripe after Corky's capture she at least gave Keiko sibling(s) at least. It's possible he already had siblings if he wasn't the the first born.

The sientist's know so much more today, we cannot compare Keiko with other orca's like Lolita.- her mother is still alive and I pray that they let her go in this seabay with human care as fast as possible. 8n captivity the animals all due at 1/3, 9f their lifespan, but they are still lying and thinking they are the best. @@selenaali1999 Yes she might be like Lolita's!! But if he was a Southern resident why would they bring him to Iceland?? Anyway they pulled the orca's out if the 9cean and did not care from where they were coming from. I think you are right, when his family was really around Iceland and Norway these orca's are fisheater 's- heringrun. But nobody could be absolute sure, Keiko was handfestes fish, so they were happy to learn him to hunt fish. For mammal's he would need a pod and I don''t believe that somebody can untrain an orca from captivity to a mammal eater again, nit after 20 year's. But I don','t know, I am no expert.

Just breaks my heart entirely. This was my favorite movie as a child. But as an adult I watched Blackfish and then when dawn was killed by Tilikum. Which was no fault of him. Wild animal. Dawn loved him…. Look at how it made the orcas worse after OSHA wouldn’t allow trainers in the water with them. The whales couldn’t understand, their bond was broken. Just no way to explain the heartbreak of orcas being in captivity. But if you watch BLACKFISH… It’s not just orcas. The seal, dolphins… SeaWorld needs to be shut down!

Who of us wouldn't trade decades alive in miserable prison for 4 years of freedom? I know I would. I wish Tokitae had a chance to swim free again with her mother who is still alive at 90! But now we must make them free her tank mate Li'l who is still trapped in Miami. Li'l was captured in 1988, he's been in prison for 35 years and deserves to be free before they kill him too! Miami seems to have a big problem with many dolphins dying in their care. We cannot help Tokitae abut we can help Li'L.

Kind of like putting a bird in a cage so it can't fly just so you can look at it ☹....

And before you telling me atleast he free. No, he die *young* at wild , normal orca should at least live to 50-80 years. He die just a year after he set free and within all those years he’s lonely because every orca pod reject him
