The bag I use every day was issued to my grandfather by the army in 1940 and went all over Africa and Italy with him. My father then used it as his schoolbag in the 1950s, at university in the 1960s and on construction sites in what was then Rhodesia in the 1970s-1980s. My brother used it as his sports kit bag in the 1990s and I've used it daily since 2004. That thing is indestructable, it still looks nearly brand new when I wash it. It'll be running the world after armegeddon.
No way. Now i read it again, i remember my grandad was in Italy in the war apparently. Do you know what regiment he was in? It was some pretty bad place to be i have heard.
Well, I am almost 30 years old and doing my PhD studies but I wanted to go back to my undergrad years with a huge backpack! Congrats on your Oxford acceptance Ruby, we know you’ll do great job and it is always a pleasure to watch your academic journey.
This channel is an academic fantasy - I know it’s really Ruby’s life, but for me, watching is such an immersion into academic fantasy. I love it. It’s inspiring. I can’t wait for the Oxford videos, Ruby! Congratulations!
I feel the same way. In my forties, and have some regrets on not going to a nearby university that was one of my choices when I had the chance. What would have been...
I'm starting a Forensic Psychology Masters in September. Why? Because I started watching you and quickly realised I wasn't fulfilling my dreams in my current role and I adore studying/learning. You provided that push I needed. So grateful xxx ❤
wow! congratulations and best of luck for your journey!!!! I'm also thinking of pursuing a career in forensic psychology but don't really know where to start and the university to choose. in which uni are you pursuing the masters?
i’ve been watching you for about four years now, and when i found out you were accepted into oxford i cried with such happiness. i’m so SO SO happy for you. you deserve this! 🖤
Just want to say a big thank you to you Ruby, your videos are the reason I’ve managed to stay in sobriety and am now considering a second degree! Never change! X
CANNOT WAIT for the study with me vids once again!! those get me so motivated to do work because it kind of feels like i have a friend who's doing schoolwork right there with me
I got my degree in English and went for an MA here in the States, but it would've been an absolute DREAM to go to Oxford. Enjoy -- I know you will! I'm vicariously reliving my college days through you. :)
so excited for the new academic year and your Oxford vlogs!! I am starting back studying again after 1 year out and am so excited!! your videos really helped me with my first degree and can't wait for the new Oxford content!!!!
I went through my PhD backpack and everything I normally pack, you’ve packed. I think you’re good to go! Re: the tote bag- a suggestion to pack one that can hold the weight of groceries. Sometimes you’ll finish later on campus, and it helps to be able to stop at the grocery store on the way home versus having to return home to pick up bags and/or buy more reuseable bags (plastic bags aren’t an option where I live). Excited for your upcoming adventures at Oxford! 😊
Oh, Ruby, could you share some of the readings that you have prepared or will prepare before your year in Oxford? I am curious how you experience the reading so far and what are your tactics when reading is hard. Would love that ❤️
For your more compact bag, I highly recommend a Stojo collapsible water bottle. I use one when I travel by plane, and either put it inside my bag (it's slightly smaller than a tennis ball when collapsed), or I attach it to a strap with a carabiner. It also fits into my coat pocket when full (I have the 590 ml bottle).
Next week I start my second year of MA in University of Iceland. Feeling quite nervous. But your videos are so calming and make me feel more comfortable about upcoming academic year. Wish you all the best and good luck in Oxford! You deserved it ❤
This is the kind of video I love the most! It reminds me of the enthusiasm of the evening before the "big day" and my fear of carrying even the house with me! I find it so reassuring that you too always have these little things with you that you never leave... in addition of course to what is necessary😌 congratulations Ruby 🫂🤍, I feel like a proud big sister considering that I'm watching your videos for years🥹💕 I'll always be proud, your vision of the world and your way of sharing your passions is special, a seed that blossoms in a land of gloom and a lot of wickedness so thank you Ruby🥺🤍 for All.
On the smaller bag: Swell makes a 9 oz water bottle which I find useful when I want to carry an everyday bag. I’m generally in town, where there are plenty of places to refill my water bottle, so the smaller size isn’t really an issue in terms of hydration. It also helps keep the weight of my bag down, which is good to do when carrying a shoulder bag rather than a backpack. Love this overview!
I'm starting as a freshman in a University in my city and these vlogs surely will give me a lot of motivation to not give up. And I congratulate you for getting accepted to Oxford. That's a huge accomplishment.
This year I am going to start my Master in Germany, and I am really excited for your vlogs. Last year I studied in England and your videos inspired for me a lot!
Best of luck for your Master’s Ruby!! A Level results day is tomorrow and I’ve applied to do Law so there’s a lot of nerves, but looking forward to what the future brings 🎉
ruubyy. i've been watching you since i was in Year 7 and now I'm starting Sixth form. my life has changed dramatically, mainly that a few years ago i realised i was transgender and began living more authentically, but it's still the end of august and i've watched your 'what's in my bag' video and the new academic year is starting. i haven't watched for a while but you videos transport me places
I absolutely love the over-the-top amount of stationary you carry with you. I too have a notebook for every occasion and a whole variety of pens, highlighters, and markers with me at all times. You never know what you'll need or how it will come up. I'm interested in your two commonplace books- how do you decide which one to use? Do you have a particular approach to the commonplace or is it just a place for random thoughts. Do you transfer to another journal later on? I'm so looking forward to your Oxford content. My school days are behind me now but your vlogs help me tap into that part of me that loves the academic life and wishes they were off doing a PhD. Congrats on your admission and good luck with the start of the program.
Awesome to see your progress Ruby, well done you!! Can't wait for the video about the Ipad and the aps you use for note taking and Uni life! keep it up, you're doing great! 👍👍
Yes, not from these videos but yes. I believe part of the aesthetic of dark academia is wanting to go back to school lol. I start in a couple weeks and cannot wait
I know this is off topic but I bought the book you recommended in another previous video called Grief is the Thing with Feathers, and honestly I am very surprised you liked it and even recommended it. It doesn't seem like something you would choose to read let alone like. I'm about 3/4 through and I find it a very odd style of writing, a mix of genres but still talking about one topic. Anyway, good luck and I can't wait to see your Oxford videos!
Do not take so hard. Just relax and happy. The point is.... do the little everyday and routine for it ❤. You will see the result...that is good for starting. I'm happy for you💐
Personally, I use it as my brain on paper. Everything I wish could stay in my memory easily accessible will end up in this book. Phone numbers, addresses, quotes, questions, ideas, facts, information, reading lists, really anything and everything at all. I do not like to put rules on what I can do, it will depend on the situation and it almost is a free-for-all. I also keep my digitally in a note on my phone, personally I just find that to be the easiest but every few days I will put it down on paper as well. Just find a strategy that works for you and go with that as everyone is going to be different. There also is no obligation for me to write everything down. I do not like to put that additional stress on me, to record every conversation and make sure everything possible is in my notebook. That just makes it something stressful, something a little bit less fun but feel free to set up parameters that work for you. I like it to be an open comfortable place, I might even journal it if I need to because there are no rules. I do not like keeping many notebooks, a scrapbook, a normal notebook, a bullet journal, and a diary so I try to limit it wherever I can. Although, if you are just getting started run a practice session and figure out what works for you. What works for me or what works for someone else may not be the right suggestion for you and we all have different lifestyles and we all want something different from our notebooks. I would love as well for the channel to make a video but I wanted to share this just in case you wanted some ideas to get started. I wish you the best of luck and if you have any other questions or wanna discuss this more please let me know. I talk into my phone so I apologize for any errors
@@lillysummeroriginals1213 thank you so much for this response! It truly sounds like you have figured out the best way to collect information for yourself. Surely you are the most organised person in the history of the world.
