- At Turtle's Hoard, they sell upcycled scientific crystals - rare materials grown for lasers, PET scanners, and other scientific equipment which weren't quite medical grade. Because these crystals have extremely unusual properties, the gems cut from them have unique appearances you can't get in natural stones. If you want a stone that changes color, glows in the dark, or splits light into a million rainbows, we have you covered!
For Tucson 2023 they are located at 22nd Street Show (North tent, booth Y13)

Love a nerd who’s found a niche where he can shine and thrive!
Yes, you are right, thanks
That is neat showing off those crystals. Also refurbishing that allexandrite rod to reuse it would get a lot more than as gemstone material. The florescent green material is Ce3+ YAG, its used as a radiation detector. It is very sensitive to lower energy gamma, x rays or beta particles. Also when finely powdered its mixed with other materials for the white light phosphor in LED lights.
Tim and Stephen from Turtle's Hoard are great guys with awesome material!!
yes. both are doing great
Is radioactivity a concern?
They detect radiation not emit radiation. They're safe
I don’t think so
