  • Hello, Dr. Long here sharing three low vision patient cases.
    First we have Bobby who is partially-sighted secondary to trauma and ocular histoplasmosis and he is updating his bioptic driver's licensure.
    Second is De'Vante who has optic neuropathy and sees 20/120 with each eye. He wants to become a bioptic driver, be able to read, recognize faces, see fast food menus, and many other things.
    Finally, Lonnie has diabetic retinopathy and neovascular glaucoma and I explain more about his condition and goals in the final segment of the video.

    I have STABLE advance diabetes retinopathy/ glaucoma / cataract in my left eye . My left eye vision is between 20/40 -20/70 with glasses. My right eye is legally blind due to side effect after cataract surgery. I developed neocular glaucoma. I just got my biopic lens and I will be learning how to drive as a monocular biopic driver in 2022. YES! People with vision in one eye and or people with low vision can drive a car if he or she can pass low vision clinic vision test.

    Very interested in this. I’m legally blind, acuity is CF 1 foot in left eye & hand motion in right eye. I have a large loss of peripheral vision. Would something like this benefit me or do I not have enough residual vision?

    • @midwestlowvisiondr.jarrodl8904
      @midwestlowvisiondr.jarrodl8904  Год назад +1

      Korrine, it's really hard to say without seeing you for an examination. For one thing, I've seen CF and hand motion vision turn out to be much better when measured accurately and/or using non-standard methods (e.g., eccentric viewing). For another, I've seen people respond quite differently to low vision glasses and devices who measure the same by these standard vision measurement methods.
      Ultimately, trying things is the only way to know for sure. --Dr. Long

    Been to Low Vision specialist and tried several bioptics. My good eye is 20/60. Main goal to continue playing music (trumpet and conductor). Need distance of 32-40", Field of vision would need to be size of letter paper (8.5"). Also, without having to move my head to read a single line, which is the issue with the ones I have tried. Magnification needs to be in 3-4 range. Any thoughts on what would work? Thank you

    • @midwestlowvisiondr.jarrodl8904
      @midwestlowvisiondr.jarrodl8904  Год назад

      Thank you for your question. You bring up a tough question. You need the magnification AND the field of vision to succeed. This is difficult with optics. You may need to research the head worn video options that are available. Or, look at scrolling the music on a tablet using special software. Best of luck! - Dr. Long

    Helo doc, my son has been undergo with ahmed valve for both eyes last year because of glaucoma, first ahmed valve surgery was his right eye & it was sucessful, then after a few months was his left eye to hav implant the same procedure with ahmed valve but unfortunately the operation was not sucesful because it cost retinal detachment & it caused his optic nerve to be damaged after the operation, & now his left eye is totally very low vision, is there anything we can do for this?

      Benjamin, thank you for trusting my opinion on this serious matter. Unfortunately, low vision care is not appropriate for helping only one eye when the other eye is functioning adequately for a person's needs. Low vision care would become necessary if your son's vision in his right eye were to decline to a point that he could not see well enough to do the things that he would want or need to do. --Dr. Long
