- This is my personal recording of Eddie Van Halen & Valerie Bertinelli married 1 year and interviewed on Entertainment Tonight circa 1982. I was a huge fan and recorded this on our family VCR. The transfer is clean but the tape was played a zillion times because my best friend and I were obsessed with Van Halen, so the quality suffered over time. Still, I think it's worth sharing. Hope you like it.
The world has changed so much since then. Worst of all, Eddie's not in it anymore. Goodbye Eddie, thank You.

In reality, Eddie was very close to his parents who were Dutch consequently he spoke Dutch fluently. In Europe,families always live together so this wasn’t unusual. Eddies values were much more conservative than people realized. He was a good dad and when they divorced they stayed close friends and she was at his bed side when he died. I would say they had a pretty solid, good relationship.
Once you have loved the way these two loved each other, it never goes away. You may part for several reasons but that love never dies.
"Their half-million dollar home." You can't find a home in Southern Cali for less than a half million now.

@Diane Lewis .Imagine how awkward I felt in the 1970s day dreaming about how darn cute he was? i had never ever thought i could be attracted to another male but i can't deny the truth that I was. I always loved Eddie & his wife. he had the most awesome smile

Rest in peace Eddie 🙏 Thank you for making my teenager years great with your amazing family band. I'm devastated...so sad, didn't sleep last night. I heard this terrible sad news yesterday night around 22.00 in Amsterdam. God bless
I remember when this originality aired. You kids must know we didn't have the internet to see what are fave stars were doing. Magazines and shows like this were the only glimpse we got.
I once got their phone number years ago and called hoping to speak to Eddie, I almost hung up because I realized how stupid it was. Valerie answered and was so kind. I apologized profusely, but she understood Eddies rabid fan base. We talked for at least a half an hour. I still can’t believe that it happened. Lol R.I.P. Eddie You are the G.O.A.T.

@@coldwinter5710 I just come clean so to speak...lol I said I got your phone number (not gonna say how or from whom) Apologized profusely for calling, I was quick to admit I was just one of Eddies biggest fans and assured her I’m not crazy or stalking them. I gave her my name and address if she wanted to check for herself. Valerie thought it was a practical joke at first, she kept saying “Kelly..Is this you?” Once she was convinced it wasn’t Kelly, she was telling me it’s ok..it’s ok, don’t worry about it. We then just talked for about 30 minutes or longer. I had to hang up (long distance rates lol). Valerie was very sweet about it and seemed to want to talk. She assured me that Eddie got phone calls from fans for years from fans and it was ok. It was a great encounter with Valerie. What a sweet and funny person she was. This was right after the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album came out. A strange and funny encounter that turned out great. I later got to meet Eddie in 1998 for about 10 minutes and it was great. I still can’t believe he is gone, it just doesn’t seem real. He was too young...I always thought we’d have him until he was an elder statesmen kind of like Les Paul. He was our guitar hero. R.I.P. Eddie, you earned it. The absolute GOAT.
Wow that's amazing. So nice that they're so down to earth. Times have changed I guess. I can't imagine just finding celebrities' phone numbers. How did you even do that?

Their relationship was loving and unconditional through and through. A piece of us died with EV. Rest in peace beautiful man.
There is nothing loving about Eddie continuing to have affairs after Valerie was publicly humiliated by a few of them.
@@jacsig They both had affairs. They both did drugs. And, they both loved each other. They both hurt each other. There were no "angels". Love is imperfect. Life is imperfect. And, in the end she was there and still sobbing over his death 6 months after the fact. Why? She loved him. He loved her. But, unlike the adolescently naive platitude, love is NOT all you need.
@@e.l.norton There is nothing naive about 2 prodigiously talented musicians and songwriters Lennon and McCartney expressing their views that the world would be a better place if everybody did live like love was all you needed. And it would be. And yes Valerie and Eddie both loved each other till the day he died. But she was not at his deathbed when he died. She was at the hospital but Wolf was the only one in the hospital room with Ed at the moment he passed.
@@jacsig You don't know their personal family situation or what happened in their relationship. People can have affairs and still love one another; it's not ideal but it happens all the time with great love stories and it's unfortunate but it doesn't disprove the fact that she considered him the love of her life and it's not far-fetched to think he'd say the same thing about her. As E.L. stated, life is imperfect and people make mistakes.

Yep they never stopped loving one another Eddie like Valerie they both said it was love at first sight .. Right til the end Valerie on one side Wolfie on the other.. Ed never knew such unconditional love … As Wolfie has said Family..

I notice Eddie coughing a couple times, ( throat cancer from smoking) . I read that Eddie used to have a guitar pick sitting in his mouth a lot and, people were blaming the (pick) that caused the cancer, I don't believe that. I believe It was from chain smoking that caused his cancer. RIP Eddie, we miss you already
Of course the cigar kills him. Guitar pick was just a ilusion. RIP Eddie. The guitar world will never be the same without you :-(
"People" weren't blaming the guitar pick, it was Eddie himself that said he believed he got cancer from his metal guitar picks.
@@jgjg3848 Yes, he initially got a tumor on his tongue, right where he used to put his metal guitar pick. They got rid of that, but cancer came back.

It did last...just in a different way. If Valerie didn't leave Eddie, he may never have gotten sober. So in a way, their marriage ending probably added years to his already shortened life. So happy Eddie was able to feel really healthy for a least a little while. And he & Valerie remained close until the very end. RIP EVH 💗

The minister told my sister and brother in law that it wouldn't last 6 months. 48 years later.....Val loved Eddie till the end, just couldn't take what he became by 2000. She tried...

I often find couples having a similarity in looks, that is what I see with these two. I was happy when I knew these two got together, but then again that is how I am: happy for others.

Val stopped the coke raised a beautiful son and had a hit show with hot in Cleveland. You did the right thing for your son Val.
She made more tv movies of the week than any actress in history and she quit smoking. Eddie didn't even though they had to remove 1/3 of his tongue do to tongue cancer. That is one of the reasons she divorced him. She said if he can't even quit smoking for me and his son so he can live. I am not going to stick around and become a widow.

Then we discover "Eddie and Valerie" are getting married. We were like, "Aw man..."Eddie's" marrying "Valerie" - that's not fair!! AS IF any of us had a chance!! Yeah... right!!! Gosh, they were so darn cute together. So many hopes and dreams. What would have happened if they really did just escape to that cabin and live simply the rest of their lives after Wolfie was born? Eddie sure did smoke a lot though, even back then. He was coughing, too.

He got on a plane right after 9/11 with the heightened security with their son who was only 9 at the time and he had coke in his baggage. When she and Alex confronted him about it he denied it. That was the last straw for VB.
