- Rex Heuermann was arrested in a raid on his 11th floor Manhattan office by cops investigating the notorious “Gilgo Beach murders” on Long Island. The bodies of four sex workers, known as the Gilgo Four, were found wrapped in burlap on a desolate stretch of beach on Long Island in 2010. Seven more victims were found the following year. Heuremann was reportedly a person of interest in the case for years. Inside Edition's Les Trent has more.
I knew nothing about this case until he was arrested. Glad to hear someone was arrested. Evil society. Be careful people!

This case has been going on for years decades but police couldn't figure it out. These bodies were all clustered along the same road so can't be coincidence. But there were no breaks in the case or police didn't try until a task force was setup to crack down on this.

I think this is amazing. Congratulations to the people who have been looking for this person all this time. Hopefully justice will prevail and the families can finally have some closure. Great efforts by the authorities who have been investigating this crime. Unfortunately we can not get those lives back but this man has to face the consequences.

I've literally been hearing about this case for YEARSSSSS now. I really hope this is the guy. This case has been going on for far too long. Its time to bring justice
I really hope it's the right guy to, but it also seems like it could have just been a random guy who was hooking up with the sex workers and that's why his DNA was on them, could have had the burner phones so his wife didn't find out about it, I think this case needs a little more evidence

Years back, I remember hearing the longer audio of the young woman in this video. It was haunting.
Now as I and the world piece this all together I realize sadly she was murdered. But her untimely passing brought to light all that we now know and alas justice (or what we know as justice) will be served.
One report said that in her call she said “they” were trying to kill her. Is this just the report being imprecise in pronoun use, or did she say “they” rather than “he”?
This deserves a movie because i never thought they would catch him...UNBELIEVABLE JOB BY LAW ENFORCEMENT
They did a movie, it's called Lost Girls. It's a perspective of Shannon Gilbert's family but it has some of the other family members of the victims as well. If you haven't followed it the Chief of police Burke was arrested by the FBI for all kinds of nasty things and wouldn't let them come in to help. They probably would've caught this guy years ago if it hadn't been for the corruption of that police force.
Lost Girls is a very well done movie. Netflix.
I think enough movies have been done glorifying serial killers.

I remember when the killings began I was young and it scared me and I lived in another state, and at some point people (investigators) assumed it was a LEO due to the fact that they couldn't find anything, this freak was never caught until now - finally and now there is a form of closure for the families of their lost loved ones. Sidebar: just because a woman works as a sex-worker it does not make her less of a human being, or less of a victim. These women have had trauma in childhood possibly or fallen on bad times for one situation or another; and that does not make them less than any other human being killed by this Ogre.... or any other deviant out there.

It is sad how he was a husband and a father to daughters but yet he goes after and murders women like this. Thank goodness he got caught! Hope the victims and their families get some justice.

@deemarlin It's just a sneaking suspicion. When he was arrested years ago, it was suggested that there be an investigation into his involvement in this case. Whether he knew Rex and aided in his actions or just covered it up for him, I believe there's something there. He was into prostitutes while serving as chief. He's also a sexual deviant.
When you find out through a television that you have a psycho father and husband under your roof.

Im assuming because most serial killers have a certain type they like to kill. At least gives some reasoning to his motivation. Not trying to undermine them, but should definitely be one of many reasons not to get involved in that kind of "work"

Why did it take thirteen years to catch him? He was right under their noses the whole time. Surely with the advancements in technology and forensics not to mention security cameras everywhere he should have been caught years ago. Sounds like someone dropped the ball on this one.
There was very little DNA on the hairs on the bodies. So they had to wait for technology to advance so that they could test mitochondrial DNA. With double jeopardy you can't risk proceeding without DNA.
The officer heading the department REFUSED FBI ASSISTANCE. he has since been busted for sex crimes himself.

They’ve always been around and probably always will until the end of humanity. It’s just a bit harder for most murderers to become serial killers since technology has made it easier to find the culprits.

I’m spite of the chosen profession of the victims they’re someone’s daughter, sister, loved one and most of all human beings! God willing this guy gets the max and pays ultimately.

Funny thing is, if you use google maps and type in his home address, you can see the Chevy Avalanche parked in front of his home that he used to transport the bodies. The google map photo is from 2011 so about a year after he killed all those girls.
