- Hosted by Steve Bowers and interview arranged by Willi X Evans. Greg Brown's first professional singing job came at age 18 in New York City, running hootenannies (folksinger get-togethers) at the legendary Gerdes Folk City. After a year, Brown moved west to Los Angeles and Las Vegas, where he was a ghostwriter for Buck Ram, founder of the Platters. Tired of the fast-paced life, Brown traveled with a band for a few years, and even quit playing for a while before he moved back to Iowa and began writing songs and playing in midwestern clubs and coffeehouses.
Appreciate this interview - there don’t seem to be many (enough) out there.
I couldn't begin to count how often Greg's songs have helped me through hard times; I'm really glad he finds that aspect of his work fulfilling.
Thanks for this short update visit by one of our favorite songwriters. We miss seeing him play, and hope for one more album. - Ramcey in Nashville
You DO know he is playing in Nashville on Nov. 9, 2021 at 3rd & Lindsley, right? Tickets on sale tomorrow. It's a benefit show for Thistle Farms.
