Wellington, New Zealand, Best resto was when my boy was 4 we went to the local landfill and recycling shop, we saw a small bmx bike which was pretty rust, he liked it so i brought it for $2, took it home, striped it and painted it, got new wheels and grease, really luck the chain and bearings were fine. He’s bigger now but we cant let go of it, its so good...now its ride on the back of the next project, a 1978 ish FJ45 that I’m striping back and doing a full resto on. Bit of a jump up but she’ll be right. Chur Kylie
Great stuff guys. The car’s starting to come together nicely. Fellow Australian from Melbourne. My Favourite restoration was my first car a 1963 XL Falcon, soon to be updated to a BJ42.
I live in southwest Sydney NSW. My favourite restoration is the current project. Its a 1989 hj60 landcruiser. I have owned it for 10yrs so took it off the road recently for a freshen up. Like you i have a little helper as in my son. Although he is only 9 atm so we will take it back of the road for a full nut and bolt resto when he is 16 before it goes to his possession. Even though he already classes it as his big white truck as he calls it.
Sunshine Coast Qld. I have been slowly restoring my hj47 ute. Trouble is it’s also my work truck so I have been doing everything mechanical I can before taking it off the road and working on the body to save time. Bit of a setback a couple of days ago with cracking a piston on the 2h I only put in a couple of years ago but I have sourced a new motor and it’s going in Wednesday next week. Love your channel it’s definitely giving me a push along.
Andrew from port Macquarie 75 series troopy still in the process, drive a 80 pick from a old bloke who had for 20yrs, 40 anniversary model, needs paint tho, clear coat coming off. All the main mechanical all sort now( hubs, bearings & suspension ) love your channel had a 73 40 short with a f motor back in the late 80's did a lap off NSW in it., then realised how thirsty it was. The standard tank didn't cut it. Had 60 for over 10yrs did a 2k paint job using my old boss paint booth, move it on when kids grew up & I wanted a ute when I lived in Katoomba, swap it for patrol trayback it took me 8 months to bring it up to my standard mechanical safe & a coat of paint, normal enamel with a hardener. So my current project is the 92 75 troopcarrier with 265k rescued for guys backyard for 3yrs in the blue mountains park under a tree with a broken rear diff. I drove it home on front axel, 6 months later the tree uprooted by a storm it's been a very slow process as the car at my house in Katoomba & im working in port Macquarie for the last 3yrs ( doing some minor rust repairs lower rear quarters & stress around the windscreen from the Heavy roof rack that where bog up) my 2 aren't interested in cars like your kids tried too thou. My father wasn't interested in cars at all, I've told by my mum I pick it up from her dad & I finally got hold of his 1957 oval Vw beetle over 10 years ago from my uncle who used as a work car ( industrial plumber) for over 20 years, the way things are going it will be my retirement project ☺️
It's been a long project or what are you feeding your boy, he has grown about a foot watching him put the roof on! Great family project 👍 Perth wa FJ 40 1984 1/2 way in
Yes Eric your right, My Boy has grown and taller then his Mum and won't be long and he will take over me too! It's great to have the whole family involved in the 40 build!
I’m from Alabama, USA, and don’t have a restoration yet, but looking for an old FJ40 to rebuild like you have done with your kids. My sons are both interested!
Been restoring my 1975 Fj45landcruiser for at least 5 years now and still not finished Bust the missus wants her back on the road again so I’m on a war path haha
Steve, Canberra ACT. I have just started watching. The roof came off in E2 and I am searching where the roof rubber seal kit can be purchased. I have no option but to buy a liner as there is no sewing expertise in the family. All4x4 spares advertise one for $600 (appears a bit steep).
Give, Bathurst foam and Rubber a call let him know where you saw it. He sells the roof lining and can sew together too. Or buy what you need and find someone local to sew together.

He’s bigger now but we cant let go of it, its so good...now its ride on the back of the next project, a 1978 ish FJ45 that I’m striping back and doing a full resto on. Bit of a jump up but she’ll be right. Chur Kylie
That's a cool, sometimes it doesn't cost the earth to have a great resto.
Yea its awesome, worth every penny.. And made him happy. And hopefully he'll jump in to helping me with my project.

Loved restoring our BJ40, “the sandy40. Keep up the good work guys.
That is a great one to start with!
Really enjoy the hints and tips and the motivation this channel brings me. And so good to see the whole family involved.

I want to do the same bit with a bj40, your videos are great
Sunshine Coast Qld.
It makes it hard when your living in one spot and you car in is another. Very cool that you got your Grandfathers VW.

Bust the missus wants her back on the road again so I’m on a war path haha
Steve, Canberra ACT. I have just started watching. The roof came off in E2 and I am searching where the roof rubber seal kit can be purchased. I have no option but to buy a liner as there is no sewing expertise in the family. All4x4 spares advertise one for $600 (appears a bit steep).
Give, Bathurst foam and Rubber a call let him know where you saw it. He sells the roof lining and can sew together too. Or buy what you need and find someone local to sew together.
