There’s a reason why Daniel Barenboim is my favourite concert pianist. The reasons should present themselves to you if you listen to any one of his interpretations of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, the list goes on. In particular, he is the master of Beethoven
I'm not big on his Bach, but everything else is superb. If you haven't checked out his Schubert interpretations, I'd highly recommend doing so. I'd put them up there with his Beethoven as his best recordings!
Yes, they are the perfect level between being both serious about keeping the original spirit alive whilst mixing new emotions that correlate to the modern way of society and living
Noone understands Beethoven sonatas better than Barenboim. I have struggled to play this sonata for years and listening to his performance makes a hundred problems melt away.
Beethoven's music is exciting as it is, but I think this amazing pianist takes excitement to a whole new level. I am in love with his Beethoven's interpretations.
I feel like his ideas grew in depth from the first 2 sonatas to this one. They are both more fluid in form and definite in the way they are introduced and expounded upon.
I wouldn't mind it's a bit fast but the whole 2Nd mov is out of rhythm.. The theme is just awful, the rest sounds very agitated. He says that beetjoven's markings are holy, but he actually often does the opposite.. MY favourite slow movement by beethoven got butchered...
I totally disagree with you. Its still classical period, and that part is an aria, he plays it not overlly romantic, its very classy and high standard for me. It sounds like a Mozart's opera under Barenboim's finger not just a vulgar whiny stuff that it can become if its played too slow.
Such brilliance... I’m practicing this piece and I’ll attempt to follow this interpretation. However, I think Barenboim got the notes at 6:12 wrong. Following the 1st FP8, the 2nd FP8 is one octave higher, and the subsequent 2nd position C chord is a semitone lower than the 2nd FP8. But seriously, these great pianists have all 32 in their repertoire while I only have 2 and a half movements... not mentioning me not being able to execute them beautifully, so I guess this kind of minor mistake won’t matter at all, for this performance is still brilliant :)
Very nice Daniel. My personal favorite sonata. I really envy you for your Otav parralel playing, The beginning of the 2nd part of the first move is really nothing for small Hands. Trained it so hard, but give it up to play it clean. Beethoven is generally ungrateful to play in concert for me.

Barenboim feels the music as if Luigi was guiding his fingers. Jacqueline is helping.
