It’s so cool how he shows them and they seem to get it. But once they start playing it then Bob enters with the vocal, they all seem to remember it immediately like they played it just yesterday
Through the nineties GBV was like a private sacred soundtrack for me. Not that I would have minded them getting insanely big. But there was always something so perfectly intimate and right about a slew of their albums, that their music was just where I would go to find my most awesome vibe… and it was ok being alone there. Very very personal music for me. It only seems to get more poignant as I realize how special that was and how time passes. Love you GBV!
Grew up next door to Dayton, and GBV were royalty to the garage bands in Richmond, IN. Pollards ability to spew lyrics that are deeply personal to so many with different interpretations is a gift from God. The list of their songs that these 30+ years later still figure into my daily playlists is astounding given their limited release to the masses. Just pure genius from these men.
Something about this scene that I really dig... Aging like fine wine they are, and still all committed through all the thick and thin and wacky 17 years thrust into the spotlight.
Cant say how much GBV influenced us in Cowlumbus...i saw the band so many times...and Bob was always cool...he was always supportive of our music...but even back in late 80s and early 90s...way before they took off...we knew he was special...great band...great man
I somehow end up watching this video every few months, not on purpose, I think RUclips just recommends it to me and I can't say no. It's just too good.

I'd say the they were the best of the 1990s for sure...though I mean the classic lineup, not the Cobra Verde and subsequent versions. The run of albums from Propeller through Alien Lanes was incredible.
@@johnjanes4322 The sad part is unless you were asking only the most educated of indie music savants you wouldn't get GBV as their choice. Maybe it's better that way :)
very stoked about seeing these guys in downtown LA during the FYF festival on Sept 3rd and 4th. there are so many good bands on the bill but this reunion tour is worth the ticket price alone. GBV! GBV!GBV!!!!
It's funny because the most underrated guitar god of all time Mitch Mitchell taught everybody everything and gracefully stepped back until exploding with his brothers of old, same place the fly got smashed, the glorious strength of spine behind a nostalgic to current passion and dear love. It was just a little strange watching Bob take center stage when it was and is still the original friends
Harsh ...Yes I had 30 years ago, great fun ... and haven't since ... I've a had a lot of fun playing video games in the interim, utterly failed at trying to learn the violin but got up to speed on keys and guitar again.... guitar is my favourite
Teaching a short simple song to experienced musicians is easy. Performing a short simple song is easy. Having a four decade career of writing hundreds of short simple songs that all sound good is not so easy.
Bob shows the boys how to play the song in less than minute, and the band immediately plays epic version.. Love GBV
Its fun when "indicates" to the bassist XD
It’s so cool how he shows them and they seem to get it. But once they start playing it then Bob enters with the vocal, they all seem to remember it immediately like they played it just yesterday
CannibalWHORE22 Tobin remembers it best.. He was in Vampire On Titus and co-wrote some of the other songs.
Now you know why they have 500 million songs.
To be fair, it's the same walkdown on two different strings, repeated over and over.
Listening to guided by voices makes me want to be a better person
Me 2...8 )
Fucking so true.
me too
its made feel love again x
Listening to guided by voices makes me want to a hey-hey glad girls
I love the contrast between Tobin's singing voice and his speaking voice.

love our bobby.
Go to beer store. Drive down Bob's block and see the cars. Hang out and watch GBV practice.Make another beer run. 😜
This is what happens when you write a no bullshit song with a great bunch of players who understand you.
these are not great players. The next lineup were great players
@@davidames1746 It's totally subjective. "great" doesn't have to mean technically proficient. It can just mean they have the right feel for the music.
@@davidames1746 And overall, the music they made is not nearly as memorable.
@@TapeCollageForEloise Exactly -- and unlike subsequent lineups all of these guys came up together.

I've watched this thousands of times and it never gets old.
I could watch this kind of stuff for days. Long live GBV!
I know
Mitch playing that Paul Stanley guitar is priceless
this is one of the best youtube videos i've ever seen. everything about this makes me smile
Back at you brother 👌❤️🎶
Just friends having a good time, thats what playing music should be all about.
Something about this scene that I really dig... Aging like fine wine they are, and still all committed through all the thick and thin and wacky 17 years thrust into the spotlight.
ahh i love when toby's vocals come in. what a beautiful song.
HIs contributions to GBV are vastly underrated.
they really know the power of a perfectly timed back up vocal. they use it a lot but it never gets old
"You're a good teacher Bob!" lol
I love when Bob plays guitar.
My life would really suck if not for GBV...Sonic sunshine for my soul...and boy do I need that.

can i get your blessing to call a song I'm writing "sonic sunshine for my soul" ??

He's a good teacher. He literally is;
Also this is a band introduction speed run world record
Rehearsing in someone's garage... love it. :-)
Micah Newman I love it! They never seem like rockstars, just regular Midwest dudes who love music
"Vampire on Titus" is an album that gets weirder the better you listen to it.
You fuckin said it, bud
I somehow end up watching this video every few months, not on purpose, I think RUclips just recommends it to me and I can't say no. It's just too good.
Straight up the coolest vid evr
Watching this makes me feel like a member of the band,
Toibin Sprout is the fucking shit.
I wish GBV would put out more 'Watch Me Jumpstart' style chill docs thru the eras...
one of my favorites and one of my favorite videos on RUclips, always makes me happy
be like that dude at that age is a life accomplishment itself, well done Bob, well done
You can tell they’re a proper garage rock band with how quickly they picked that up haha
this clip is pure gold
Bob and Tobe should record more songs where they sing together on the new era GBV albums.
Yeah I love how their voices blend!
notreallybandfromottawa yeah, some Lennon and Mcartney shit going on when their (guides by?) voices blend..
all the airport 5 stuff is bob and tobin collabs.
Blows my mind when Toby asks “it’s not a harmony right?”. He really forget this classic???
Well to be fair they have a catalogue of a few hundred tunes.
always fun to re-watch this.

The best video on RUclips hands down. Wish there was more!
Thanks for grabbing these few moments, Rich. Well done!
fucking beautiful
absolute perfection.
I could watch hours of this type of fly on the wall GBV coolness.
Wow! Gold!
Even their rehearsals are for the books. Incidentally, it looks like Greg is drinking a Fosters.
It’s debatable but they could be one of America’s greatest rock bands. And that’s not hyperbole...

This video is life.
Love that it’s a 3 and a half minute video and a minute forty is a demo before nailing a run through!
Love this video!
Can't wait for another few hours, as they boys are back in town tonight 11-09-16 and it's been since October, 2010 that last they graced Atlanta.
G - Bsus - Emin C - Amin7 - Amin all the way through... one of the most perfect songs ever made...

The Greatest Rock Band Ever!
what a great viddy! I like how Doug looks like a thin, young version of Stephen merit.
Hard drinkin rust belt dads churning out greatness.
Mitch and his fucking cigarette.
simple but brilliant
Robert Pollard gave us a touch of the magic with this one right here. Tobin Sprout come to San Diego!
This still slays me.

A classic

The guy Bob with the grey hair singing is such a handsome man.
this makes me want to be in a band
So did you ever get in a band? You’ve had 8 years to learn an instrument, and I hope you didn’t waste that time playing video games.
