Im a 600 elo and using Hikarus disrespectful opening seems to throw alot of my opponents off. They always go for the 4 move checkmate with the queen and bishop but seem to get stumped after i push the side pawns. Thanks Hikaru!
Idk why but this never gets old. I play at his opponent's level and its just amazing how easy this is for him.
Thanks Hikaru for speaking out against the "Don't resign period" movement that Levi and Rosen have made popular. I'm sick of playing against scrubs who blunder 3 times during a 3-minute blitz game and won't resign even when they're down 10+ points of material.

Respectfully, if theyre down a knight or something its cool in lower time formats but i play so many people that will lose their queen n 2 pieces n try to flag me or stalemate a minute n a half like bro they could have won another game already instead of tryna flag me. Would be from a dead lost opening not rven the middle game.

But yea i get not resigning, ive won games down 2 pieces. But when a person relies on this to win games and not atleast some level of skill not reliant on the timer, then i think the game probably isnt for them or they should learn more.

I've gotten so many stalements when my sub 1000 opponent has 2 queens or whatever huge advantage lol. Definitely agree almost never resign in sub 1000 3 min or less games.

I’d have to disagree with this take 6:16 whether at 500 or 1500 I’ve seen numerous players who are actually that rating screw it up. Whether up a queen or 7 pieces. I played a blitz game a week ago where my opponent had a queen, 2 knights, rook and bishop against my lone rook and they blundered mate in 1. I’m 1650 blitz btw. It does happen so sorry but don’t resign it’s not bad advice. Make them earn their win. Hikaru only feels this way because he actually can convert 99.9% of the time
I had an opponent resign a completely winning position with mate in 3 on the board just a couple of days ago. I was completely floored.
His point is relevant for those who want to get better in the long run.Winning a couple of games here and there by not resigning doesn't change your elo over a long time. Plus, you get used to playing hope chess.
If the probability of an upset comeback or stalemate is 1%, then you would save time by just resigning. There is a practical statistical cost of opportunity. Needless to say those with the dumb never resign attitude are followers not leaders.
And the idiot who posted this gave an anecdote which shows confirmation bias. What a clown. That isn't a good argument for not resigning.

I am only 6 minutes in, and holy crap..... Hikaru is a beast online. If he can translate this level of calm cool collected to OTB he would be unstoppable. Easier said than done I know. Maybe a Hypnotist? I don't really believe in that mumbo jumbo, but something, some way a "sports psychologist" I don't know. Maybe just line up 50 ELO 900 - 1200 OTB every day, unfortunately it pays the bills at this point streaming, and its actually enjoyable content. I enjoy watching Hikaru smash a bunch of noobs in bullet for 40 minutes better than watching Levy lick Magnus' boots for 10 minutes every other video. I do like some of Gothams videos, don't get me wrong. But he knows his niche and he knows what gets views and its talking about other peoples drama.

I think Hikaru is saying that when you don't have any pieces left, and your opponent has like two queens, it's just respectful to resign. We are not playing for money or WC etc. so why try to trick some stalemate, you lost, end of.

If you see they can do a lattermate than you can resign but make them work for it xD their endgame will profit in the longrun and so does yours

@@mattiherranen7886 no amateurs are not playing for money or WC, but we are also not playing for sportsmanship or chivalry awards. Why do you care about respecting your opponents? If so, this "disrespect speedrun" really isn't lining up with your values. When you start a game in any time control, you're signing up for a game that goes that long (eg in 5+0 blitz you are committing to a 10 minute game), so you should be prepared to either play for that amount of time or find a checkmate. In regards to your stalemate trick point, that's laughable, 900's don't even know checkmate patterns, let alone stalemate traps. If there's a stalemate in a game between 900's, it's because the player with the advantage screwed it up - which is exactly why you shouldn't resign - this happens all the time.
@@davidjames149there comes a time when people adapt this mentality and apply it in their games but its not practical in most cases. The % you trick them isnt worth the time wasted normally. Its different when you play bullet chess or even blitz. But ive played alot of 10min and 5 min games in 1600 elo n people will be down 10+ points of material n try to flag or stalemate 4 minutes worth of time and they maybe win 1 out of 10-15 games likes that because of an overlook. But the time wasted could have been spent on a new game and holding a streak. It starts forcing you to only hope for a blunder instead of just playing chess. To be clear i dont think you should resign just bc you dropped a knight, ive won plenty games down a minor or major. But when all the dude does for 30moves is move his king and hang his pieces to try to force stalemate it just seems a little too weaselish for my taste.

As it's an authorized speedrun and the rating points are refunded, why should he get into problems?
