The use of Absolute in these stories are quite paradoxical. They sound like cheap copy of the originals. One would imagine that being an absolute version would be more iconic. These re-imagining should be stamped with the Elseworlds logo instead.
You can bend a concept until you break it. To me, this isn't Batman. And that logo is awful, unless he's "rectangle man". To each his or her own but for me, it's a nope.
So Absolute Batman will be a kid of the lower middle class, growing up in crime alley. And after tragedy befalls him, he'll become Batman. So basically we're getting a Batman re-skin of Daredevil. Fine since Marvel and DC have been copying each other for decades.
Batman is a iconic character that focuses on the human attributes and unique qualities that we naturally possess without the supernatural powers , just the raw grit and determination , he not death stroke I personally don’t agree with this new narrative and we might have to find a way to shift Batman back to more traditional origins
I always thought of Batman as the peak of human prefection. His biggest appeal is the fact that if someone trains their mind and body to the max, they could BE Batman.
So many red flags with this. It’s like they took all the ideas we don’t like and put them into one universe. I don’t want to hear “well he looks like dark knight returns Batman”. No he doesn’t. @@Noname-ut1ye Yeah I saw that. Science Vamp makes sense if he doesn’t have the money. Plus you can link his illness to the corruption in Gotham. Occult might be tricky with Wonder Woman being a Witch. But Science Vampire or Cyberpunk would have been cool if you want to prevent overlap
I've read all of the stuff Snyder put out on Comixology originals. He's such a mediocre writer. The guy always starts with a strong premise then whiffs the end with an "oh? It's finished?" feeling. Let's do away with this idea the character doesn't go after rich villains "Ladies. Gentlemen. You have eaten well. You’ve eaten Gotham’s wealth. Its spirit. Your feast is nearly over. From this moment on…none of you are safe" He didn't say that to a bum mugger on a street corner.
This Batman doesn't look promising with the design, story, logo and potential art itself. Hmmm... I don't know since for me the "Earth One" line with Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, etc. from few years back was more interesting as a ultimate/modern universe.
Batman and wonder woman are the most mailable in my opinion. you can change who who is Diana's mother and father and it changes her hierarchy and linage And role of royalty and powers and same with batman you can change his background in a thousand ways as well . Superman is harder to change without him becoming a villain or edgy which is why we're are getting a edgy superman . without the Kent or his connection with Jor El he doesn't have a lot of connection with humanity so he can go south real fast . Also wonder woman a buster sword is dope
I got Dark Nights: Metal and Death Metal sitting across from me waiting for a read, plus Batman 1 + 2 omnibus (Court of Owls), all of which are Snyder. From what I've heard about him, he's very hit or miss, kinda like Jeph Loeb. He'll have some awesome work, and then some.. wtf is going on type of stuff (like Loeb's Red Hulk run, which while fun, people didn't like at the time as it had to follow Greg Pak's Planet/WW Hulk runs). We'll see what Snyder can do with Absolute, but if it turns out to be doodoo, I got lots of old material to go through.
I read court of owls. Snyder’s has some good ideas in it but there are some things that happen it involving bruce/batman that ruins the impact of the story.
@@rosswilson8917 I'm praying it's not too awful right now. I'm willing to mentally suspend some things in comics or just make the assumption that a story is a single arc in a vacuum (for my sanity's sake). We all know that comics, due to being in the hands of way too many damn writers, have consistency problems (not that I'm happy with it, it's just always been that way, sadly). As long as his changes aren't too wild a departure from what Batman is supposed to be, I think I can swallow the pill. If it's too bitter though..
So it looks like this book in reversing the typical Batman standing, if he's supposed to be an agent of order. What would it look like if he was an agent of chaos?
Something told me that they were going to do some stupid nonsense like this with the character this is why I prefer reading the older Batman comics over the newer stuff honestly DC needs to fire the current writers and artists that they have because these people that they have hired are nothing more than a bunch of activists that are wanted to push their stupid political agendas in these comics they need to bring in people that have respect for these characters and their history including the source material itself stop hiring activists that don't know jack s*** about these characters
Batman being rich is kind of a part of what makes what he does noble. They don't call him the dark knight for nothing. He's a noble patron who takes it upon himself to protect the innocent among those of lower status in his domain. The idea that a wealthy person would be good is anathema to leftists, so it's no surprise that the concept of Batman is lost on these people.
That Absolute Wonder Woman art looks like something from an indie/underground comic from the 1970s. It REALLY doesn't fit Diana, at all. As for Kelly Thompson, if she likes Diana and is an actual fan she'll do well (like on Mr & Mrs X, which you could tell was a labor of love for her). If not, well, it's going to be ... not great.
That's what we're going to find out. If you strip away the things that have defined Batman for 80 years, is he still Batman? It's good they got a big name on this book, because otherwise, I wouldn't be too confident. I have a bit more faith in Jason Aaron on Superman because he's done good work before, but that Wonder Woman book feels DOA.
Earth One Batman sucked as a detective to point he asked for training. All Star Batman was sadistically brutal to Robin. White Knight Batman just WTF!? New 52 come across like a elseworld Batman. I didn't keep any of those books as a new reader. Batman has a way about him that is laced into the pop culture ethos. Absolute Batman will not bring in the normies, because he his unrecognizable to the normies who need a easy familar in. I can't see this generating new fans?
Punisher in a funny hat, and without the cool logo. Also, what I really liked about Snyder's Batman issues, especially the early ones, were the detective scenes. This just doesn't sound like Batman.
I have given up on marvel. I have given up on ultimate. I have given up on dc. I don't care about absolute. I've gone to buying valiant comics out of half priced books discount bins, and I'm elated.
If the entire premise is "... But as Batman" Its a hollow gimmick. If the story wouldn't stand as an OG character and saga, grafting Batman over top doesn't maie it any better. MSM comic business model - assimilate all indies and anime IP's. See LUFFY and Miss Marvel
Could say the same thing, about Oliver Queen, when it comes to privilege. It just wouldn't be the same guy, the same motivations. And I think with Bruce, That yes, it had a lot to do, with two traumatic moments in his life. But it was also a lot about, his relationship with his parents. I'm just being hypothetical here, and this is just my opinion, but, I think he loved his parents, more than he loves his money, or his legacy. I think if you removed the money from the equation, but the family bond was still there, you'ld end up,with a very similar Bruce. The only real difference here, is he doesn't need to be a detective, he lives among the players. Just my two cents Sorry! Let me be clear, was just giving my two cents, on what you outlined. Not on the actual story. Haven't read it..!
The Batman story that you subscribed sounded better than what Snyder probably has planned. Also it looks like the artist may have taken some inspiration from the anime Baki Hanma. When coming up for the look of absolute Batman.
absolute is going to bomb hard, but it's going to have some management tricked, so i wouldn't be surprise to see a animated movie or 2/ film treatment that gets filed away with some of those batshit superman ideas.
I'll give in even though I don't like the alternate universe excuse but I hope they can deliver something good even if it's not Batman. Seriously, are you going to say it's just some random guy who Decided to be Batman? Is that his only connection to the original Bruce Wayne? A guy named Bruce who decided to be Batman?
After hearing Marvel was bringing back Ultimate I was really excited to get a reboot to loose some baggage, i was going to buy monthly for the first time. And then everything was different. Not bad but different. The stories still had interesting questions to ask, but my disappointment still stands. Now dc was getting its own reboot universe, I was just as excited as I was before. Then I saw Superman. Not that big a deal. But then I saw Batman. And the more I hear about this Batman, I have to wonder, why this isn’t just a one off else worlds. I cannot see this book going on for a long time, not because it’s a bad concept per se, but it’s not really like batman. The people this story is going to appeal to, are people that don’t read comics. The people that think batman goes too easy on his villains, or that him being rich is bad, they aren’t reading the books, they’re casual. And unfortunately most casual fans aren’t actually buying books. So I have to ask, who are these books for?
Absolute Batman sounds like the Punisher. I still like Batman better as a Dark Knight with a heart of gold, but I like this take too. We need Punisher like characters. In fact, we need the Punisher. The real Punisher back with the no grills simple skull, the super big guns, the trench coat and no mercy. It's fun to have bad guy superheroes.
But the little pink haired editors for the big two wouldn’t like that cause it’s soooooooooo nasty and violent and perpetuates male machismo. Why would you want to read that when you could read about Batgirl and Wonder Woman in full length skirts or pants and a full t shirt, so no skin shows to attract the evil male gaze, standing around talking about what they can fix for supper? Oh, the excitement!!!!
I was thinking about this the other day . Im not sure what to think about this when I look at this batman , i see things and elements that could be woke in this batmans Incarnation and creation but also i see a really cool story that isnt woke . There are some cool sides here I dont like him Not being a detective he can be broke and still be intelligent enough to be a detective I mean he Has a symbiote programmable cape in this story so if he can program his cape than he can be a detective, but on the other hand maybe he just doesn't use detective methods. maybe this batman uses more brute raw power like a mix of Raphael and a little Donatello instead of like usually being a raph , leo and donnie combined type of batman (TMNT analogy ) you could take that as maybe an anti /defund the police type allegory but maybe it isn't again its an alternate universe so im not bothered by the changes and im still gonna read it .but over all i think dc may have done this because the batman copy right expires in the next couple of years and they need a new batman to print that has a new copy right i think thats what really going in here honestly.
I’m excited for Wonder Woman because of the pitch and I do love Hayden Sherman’s art. I haven’t read much from Kelly Thompson, but I haven’t hated what I’ve read. Batman I’m excited about because of the creative team, and it just looks fun. I’m mostly excited for Flash though, I’m yet to read something from Lemire I didn’t like.
What if Bane was Batman? That's what I'm hearing. That 3rd Christian Bale Batman movie had Bruce Wayne switch places with Bane and end up in the prison where Bane grew up. Bruce was supposed to understand Bane or some nonsense, it was a bad movie. It sounds like Snyder enjoyed that movie and was inspired to create this because of it. I absolutely not buying this

"Here's my pitch... Its Batman WITHOUT being bogged down by BEING Batman..... We put Guts in a Bat suit... A lil "Prophet"... TADA!!"
This sounds horrible. I probably wont be collecting any more DC comics after this.
So many red flags with this. It’s like they took all the ideas we don’t like and put them into one universe. I don’t want to hear “well he looks like dark knight returns Batman”. No he doesn’t. His body is a lot more deformed looking, looking like a joke. I don’t want anyone to talk about Rob Liefelds captain America when this looks way worse and is actually being used in the comic.
Get that sand out of your eyes, this does look better.
If just oddly proportion and even then that's more due to them, just exaggerating features.
You know what I don't understand the same people who complain about '90s comics complained about how overly muscular the characters were but they are the same people who praise absolute Batman but really the look of Batman's not what I'm really concerned about it's the way they are taking away the things that make Batman who he is And all this is just being done to please a bunch of Leftist weirdos because they don't like the fact that the character is rich and not only that they take away another trait that people enjoy about Batman is his detective skills and how great of a fighter he is it's clear that the people who they have writing absolute Batman have no clue what the hell they're doing this is one Batman comic I won't be reading absolute Batman makes war games look like gold I'm going to be honest I prefer war games over absolute.
@@feliciasteward777 exactly, I like my Batman to be rich and a playboy. Leftist think rich people are bad and men who get lots of women are bad too so we get stuck with a broke Batman who’s incompetent and needing women to boss him around. There’s this misunderstanding that Batman is this depressed and brooding character. He’s not. He’s gone through phases where he’s depressed but he’s actually a happy and outgoing guy.
Wow, sounds like dogshit. Were they inspired by Batman: Caped Crusader?
It almost seems like someone had an original idea of a not-Batman character but knew it wouldn't sell, so they slapped a Batman logo on it to manipulate people into accidently buying a not-Batman comic, almost.
This would have been a 6am cartoon show. Back in 1992. Going after the Batman TAS audience. Griman.
Will give it a try🎉
So they can't write clever interesting stories so they choose dumb the character down to their level.
You lost me at "privilege"
I'll pass, this doesn't sound like Batman to me, at all, and the exaggerated physique puts me off entirely. At this point, I'm just waiting for the next DC universe reboot.
Scott Snyder is such a hack
Batman: Writing probably good. Overall story iffy. Art probably good
Wonder Woman: Writing iffy. Overall story probably good. Art iffy
Superman: Writing iffy. Overall story iffy. Art probably good
I was hoping this Batman would either go More Occult or go more Cyberpunk.
But nah we got Bat-Bane instead whose broke. Like if this Bruce is broke then I would have preferred like a science vampire direction ala Man-Bat or Morbius
If you want a Morbius Batman, peep Justice League: Gods and monsters.
Let's do away with this idea the character doesn't go after rich villains
"Ladies. Gentlemen. You have eaten well. You’ve eaten Gotham’s wealth. Its spirit. Your feast is nearly over. From this moment on…none of you are safe"
He didn't say that to a bum mugger on a street corner.
just consider everything DC puts out as Fan Fic most dont last a year anyway
This Is Jack Reecher meets Batman
Bat Reacher. 😂 Love it. 👍
This Batman doesn't look promising with the design, story, logo and potential art itself.
Hmmm... I don't know since for me the "Earth One" line with Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, etc. from few years back was more interesting as a ultimate/modern universe.
I'm sorry, but I still find his new logo distracting.
So Batman is basically Daredevil in this?
That's pretty much a redo of the FOX Gotham show.
Been collecting DC since 1986 will not be purchasing any of these
Earth One Batman sucked as a detective to point he asked for training.
This has WOKE written all over it. I'll pass.
Punisher in a funny hat, and without the cool logo.
Also, what I really liked about Snyder's Batman issues, especially the early ones, were the detective scenes. This just doesn't sound like Batman.
As a reader gonna give this a shot and see how it does. My sales as a retailer are going good, but it's the first issue so that is expected.
So it's practically homeless batman
City engineers aren't homeless
I don't see how any long time Batman fan will get much, if any, enjoyment out of this new version, but to each their own, I suppose.
I have given up on marvel. I have given up on ultimate. I have given up on dc. I don't care about absolute. I've gone to buying valiant comics out of half priced books discount bins, and I'm elated.
If the entire premise is "... But as Batman"
Its a hollow gimmick.
It just wouldn't be the same guy, the same
motivations.
Just my two cents
Sorry!
The Absolute Universe should have been what if the trinity didn't exist and instead of them we have 2nd generation heroes become heroes on their own
DC already tried that
@@G-LukeJA In what? besides Earth 2
It’s a pass for me
Yeah, yet another pointless Batman origin rewrite...how new and exciting😴😴😴
DC=Don't Care. I have not purchased a DC comic in years. I keep in the loop. Then garbage like this reminds me. Indies are better.
Also Absolute Wonder Woman can delve into a society that’s not a Utopia so they won’t ignore the problems.
... with all of this, why not just make a new character?
I read Batman and I am so not excited at all. I'm getting closer and closer to just dropping Batman, but I just hate having missing issues. Sigh.
Make your own.
No, this is bullshit. A Killer Batman isn't Batman. Enough of murderous anti-heroes. I don't need more this cynical shit in my comic books.
so dc just made spiderman 🙄
This won't make it a year.
What is this anymore!? So this bat man juices and thinks bats are rectangles!?
I am willing to give absolute Batman a chance and see what happens in this darkseid dc universe.
I'm part of what seems to be a small minority who didn't particularly care for Snyder's first run but I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole.
What if they have Thomas Elliott but make him of Latin descent and homage tommy vercetti from vice City
I think that you are onto something here
I’m excited for Wonder Woman because of the pitch and I do love Hayden Sherman’s art. I haven’t read much from Kelly Thompson, but I haven’t hated what I’ve read. Batman I’m excited about because of the creative team, and it just looks fun. I’m mostly excited for Flash though, I’m yet to read something from Lemire I didn’t like.
Expecting Snyder not to use Joker is like expecting an alcoholic to put the bottle down.
I absolutely not buying this
Mr. Freeze: Absolute Zero Batman? That's cold.
