Chorus:
"Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together"
"I've got some real estate here in my bag"
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And walked off to look for America
"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America
Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera"
"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat"
"We smoked the last one an hour ago"
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field
"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come to look for America
All come to look for America
All come to look for America

One of the best concerts ever.
Well....at least top five
Hands down!!
Yes the greatest ever
And it was free to see too!
So true
Was at this concert with my wife and kids. Once in a lifetime experience.
Wonderful song
Amazing! I'm so jealous, in a good way ❤
Terrific saxophone played by Gerry Niewood, who died in 2009 in a plane crash, he was only 65.
How old was the plane?
Pure talent, no need for backup dancers, costumes, lights, lasers etc. Two amazing singers, an acoustic guitar and a back up band had central park enthralled, and those who weren't there wishing they were.
yes, they can't dance to save their lives :D still great
A "backup band" yes -- but a more-amazing backup band may never have been assembled.
Yes, girl!
Paul Simon is genius!!
and they call MJ the Artist of Millenium...
What a fool and crazy world!!
@@murilomartins1954 MJ could sing, but it's hard to picture MJ singing this, certainly not as it is. However, his own version in his own distinctive and inimitable style and there is never any other, might always have been worth hearing, but generally speaking perhaps due to ego clashes, big artists do not seem to like covering or performing the songs of other major artists, not that there are no exceptions to this trend. MJ was probably recognized as a solo act which was not too bad either.
Oh yeah I wish I were there but I hadn't been even born yet.
Art Garfunkel the most underrated vocalist of all time!!!
i would pit Waylon Jennings and Marty Robbins on that list as well.
Marty Robbins for sure but s&g were underrated I love all their music
Not by me he isn't.
How is he underrated man.. He's well known as one off the best vocalist of all time.
what about micky dolenz? i feel like he should earn a spot on the list
That these two met at the same point in time and place is quite remarkable.
Match made in heaven 😉
Man. As awesome as this song has always been with Paul Simon solo, the absolute magical harmony that Artie's voice adds to it makes it that much more awesome. I honestly cant think of two voices that have ever fit so perfectly together.
I wish (and, I know, many other people too) they'd bury the hatchet and got back together, best harmonies this side of Heaven...
What other Simon solo songs have they sung together?
Totally!
The everlys The beatles and The Beach Boys
Yeah Arts actually having fun for a change
Garfunkel is so cute the way he bites his lip 😍
Art Garfunkel does the best Paul Simon impersonation. His unison ear is the best I have ever heard.
Musicianship of the highest quality
Yesterday night I was zapping through the tv channels right before I wanted to go to bed and then that concert started. What can I say, I stayed on the couch for 90 more minutes :)
I was born and raised in Corona Queens in the 50s-60s. Paul Simon was raised in Forest Hills, Queens, at the same time, the next town over. Corona being predominately Italian and then Dominican started to grow; Forest Hills was predominately Jewish. Anyway, perhaps an incredible coincidence but back in the 60s there was a white Italian girl from Corona named Rosemary D. (I am deliberately leaving out her last name) who befriended the Spanish kids (unusual at that time see West Side Story) and "hung-out" by Linden Park in Corona located just across the street from PS 16 a Junior High School on 104th Street. I believe to this day that "Rosie the Queen of Corona seeing Julio down by the school yard" was actually Rosemary D. with her Spanish friends across the street from the school yard. Perhaps a coincidence but if so an incredible one.
Love this to be true.
Not a coincidence imo...
I'm Brazilian. We have leaved the same here. We have a little Trumpz. The same. With 3 sons that think they are princes!
I like this! Who knows, could be 😊
Winston Smith Great story, Thanks for sharing.
RIP Gerry Niewood (1943-2009). Saxophonist extraordinaire.
Free concert, they dont have songs like this anymore
comme tu as raison c etait bien la meilleure epoque c est fini maintenant !!!
The first secs are like:" PAULIE! LOOK AT ME!"
You're right - absolutely adorable!
he is reading a lyric card he is not even looking directly at him, he is looking behind him, you can see this when the camera angle changes.
Paul had short man complex always wanted to be no.1
Your name though.
Well, the song was wrote after the band disbanded. He probably didn't know the lyrics that well and was focusing on the flow and what he was doing.
The great Steve Gadd on drums.
didnt see Gadd on this??
Paul seems to be having fun playing the old songs. Art seems to completely elated to jamming w/Paul
It's that great sax/drum solo on this song that keeps me coming back to it!
Are you still here?
Gerry Niewood, doing the tenor sax solo, was the Eastman School of Music intern at my high school when I was playing sax in the school band! And then he made the big time!!
@@michaelhoag9696 Yep, Gerry and Gadd, both alumni of Chuck Mangione as well.
Listened to these guys back in the late 60s still listening at 68 hope still listening at 90.
Steve Gadd on drums with those 2 living legends....waow ...
One of the Greatest concerts ever done by anyone .......Music when it was at its finest Love them....
No BS here..Plain AWESOME
mpam mahowald classic.
classic Simon and Garfunkel.
This is my favorite version of this song! It's just an amazing song, and it makes me so happy whenever I hear it.
Give the Pomplamoose cover a listen.
Paul and Art should have never called it quits on their musical partnership. My 2 favorite versions from the Central Park concert are SLIP SLIDIN' AWAY and THE BOXER.
I remember not liking this song when I was a kid, but now I enjoy it a lot.
Speedy guitar playing and simultaneous singing are tough and wonderful.
Feels like a pinnacle of last century!
Lovely singing. My favourite singers.
Still fantastic after all these years
Absolute perfection.
I set up the stage here watched the whole show. It was packed with people 👍👍👍🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Lucky you!
Wonderful moment at around 54 seconds when Paul half-smiles, wondering who Art was pointing at.....as if to say "What's he doing now?"
To see, over and over again, this sky darkening slowly ...uptaken by the night, enfolding Paul and Art is one of the first and last pictures I shall cherish forever in my comfortably numb mind !
I think I was at this concert. Wow, what a genius Paul Simon is. He was a very handsome young man in this video.
You think?? You'd surely know if you attended this concert. I have it on DVD and watch it regularly. One of the best concerts I've seen.
Paul always had a great band behind him
I don't know who Julio is but when I hear this song I'm young again, without a care in the world. Just me and Julio down by the the schoolyard.
This is one of my favorites. I really love them all. Artie. A handsome man and best singer in the world.
Arts hot! Talent is always sexy
a lesson in body language these two !
Keep it groovy and slightly awkward
when the music comes out from heart
these cats are the epitome of cool
one of Paul Simon's first solo hits from the 1972 self-titled debut.
What was the album called?
@@CB-xr1eg PAUL SIMON
Art’s got his wallet in his back pocket. They couldn’t have gotten him a locker or something?
floggin your log shouldn't be done at a concert.
Is it so terrible that he was a real person carrying his wallet in his back pocket, like most males, during this concert? They were real people too, remember that. :)
Cool detail I never noticed before...kinda makes me like art even more...like he just shows up from a taxi and sings then takes the subway back to his house ..like people who have a ton of money and live in mansions but still eat shredded wheat for breakfast kinda thing.
Wow... three of the greatest minutes in modern music history...
P.S. Better Together...!
PPS: Kudos to their horn section...
Real singers
Those session musicians, who spend their whole lives journeying, are great! Also, God has definitely blessed us w/ these harmonies. God is great.
Lol
Was at this show, 10 years old with my parents... good stuff
You were lucky!
Paul Simon, so danged cute.
They are awesome 🧜♀️
Best version of this song ever. Love the salsa touch.
Qué hermoso solo de Steve Gadd, 8 compases mágicos!!! Un CAPO desde siempre
The Royal Tenenbaums. :’)
Still enjoy watching this concert. As the Brits would say. SPOT ON!
Wow... The best from our era...
I love Simon & Garfunkel since my 05 years old. I´m 39 nowdays. Simon I love your voice and smile. Hello from Vania - Brazil.

@@wasterman what's a fake S&G brazilian fan??
Greetings from Finland
Amazing! They could sing anything, any style ,any rhythm, any words and still be great.
Kids. This is music, this is a song, a message. These are artists!
I remember being there. They used to call it the Shaffer concerts. I walked up from Wall street that day. Wow I was young.
Gadd, Jackson, Tee...this is THE BAND.
Steve gadd legend drummer 👌
This song can stay in my head rent free!
Just awesome. I've always enjoyed it since I was 14 years old. I currently have 55. They are harmonious and perfect guitar voice everything everything everything. Amoooo
This is my "go to" song when I've made myself ruminate listening to the more thought provoking lyrics of the ones like Bookends, April come she will, and a most peculiar man.....transports me to a happier place in the present moment every time!! 👍🙂❤
This concert was awesome! One of the best ever!
That view on the '70 / '80's New York skyline is so lovely, and those stacks of speakers wow.
Great music, great vibes
And this band that supports both of them is something out of the ordinary - sensational
What a GREAT song this one. i was so lucky to see Art & Paul in concert in Australia
If I hit Mega or Powerball, I will offer these guys millions for an evening. They are just an incredible treasure.
Paul might say yes - if you donated to a charity. Art...
Commander Gadd on drums.... holy shit! So solid.
True music.
The beautiful john prine, and the lovely girl who, aguably, brought his songs to the masses.
dammit Rosie, look what youve done
This was one of the greatest concert I ever watched!!
I simply LOOVED!!🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️🎤
I was there.
Best version
This is professionalism.
Perfection
Amazing how good these guys sound together!
Sax player and band incredible!!
Gerry Niewood was the sax player. He was with Chuck Mangione before this for years and made some great albums together.
this song is the best i love it its so happy
This gig is legendary...but I had never actually heard it!
This is a particularly sublime song from a fantastic concert. Initially I was surprised that Art was doing harmonies on Paul's solo songs, but having heard it.....wow! Great band and arrangement too!
This was song no 4 in the Playlist. Listening for 37 yrs and still enjoying.
I think, my ever wishing list, would be, to see Simon and Garfunkel live. Wishes sometimes never come true. But, bejesus, these boys are good!
