I have an XR650R. It is a very capable bike, does weigh a lot and when uncorked, will blur the scenery when you let it loose. It goes through rear tires though.
Seems like they’re pretty close in terms of acceleration. The uncorked XR650R should have a bit more power than the YZ250 and a lot more torque, but it’s heavier. Top speed wise the XR has the gearing to go much faster.
@@joshstevens6678 The 650R is nowhere near 80 hp. An “unlocked” 650R with a full exhaust is a 60 hp bike on a good day. Then factor in that it’s much heavier than the YZ and the YZ has shorter gearing plus 48 hp. It’s a rider’s race.
Long streches of dirt roads, this is what XR's were built for, they won several. Baja 1000 races. But in a closed circuit motocross track with jumps, loose sand and tight turns? No way, motocross Yamaha YZ wins.
The yz sounds nice but the big red pig is the ultimate machine I have an 05 XR 400r love it my love for dirt bikes have brought me to have a desire for a few others but I'm an XR rider to the casket 💯
I’ve been a Honda four stroke rider since 1967, starting with an S90. I never bought into the 2 stroke concept. Oh, I’ve owned several and enjoyed them all, but nothing hooks up like a four stroke. And in spite of all the hoopla about lighter, faster two strokes, I usually would be into the first turn in first place, always in the top three. At that time Honda bikes were heavier trail bikes and it showed. Honda never invested any money into the four stroke bikes. Yamaha TT 500 was promising. But all four stroke bikes of the 70’s and 80’s required massive infusions of cash to make them handle. But for acceleration the Honda four stroke bikes were capable if you knew how to ride them!
I'm impressed by both bikes . I had a yz 250 , but never an xr 650r . I've always wanted one though . My yz was fast as hell , so that's a lot to say for the XR since it seems to be the winner in this drag race . I have to say I'm more impressed by the XR 650 then the yz . It hung right with the yz right off the gate and eventually beat the yz ,and I know the Yz is fast, so the XR is down right amazing ..esp for being such a larger heavier machine All I can say is WOW I really want one now ....
Get a ktm 525 exc 2006, a lot lighter than an xr650 and it produces around 50hp stock at the rear wheel. If that isn't enough bore it out to a 540,570 or even a 640 and that'd be a torque monster! I have a 525 in motard set up and it likes to lift the front wheel and tops out around 105mph... Could get 115-120mph with different gearing but to get higher than that you'd need more hp
Restored a 94 CR500, my next dream bike is an XR650R as I grew up on a 1990 xr200 😉 Xr650 was short shifting and sand bagging lol, could habe left that yz at over 100mph in 5th, not to mention 6th
YZ has pretty short gearing. I had a modded 2003 YZ250 for a short time (bought used) and it was an animal. The high rpm hit on that thing was nearly uncontrollable.
I remember when these came out Cycle World tested an uncorked bike against the CR500 and would consistently pull away from the big CR on dirt roads and hills they can put the power down! I have never ridden the 650r but have owned several Honda xr and xl 500s and still own a yz465 and various Mx and enduros of the open class. Some day I will own this beast!
No that's like 1000cc 4stroke now a cr300 would be like a 600 cc 4 stroke that's a even fight in displacement that is now gears and everything make a difference I raced a kx450 on my 650l and lost bad 🙄 lmfao
I'm a Honda guy all day long but this is like racing a Corvette against a ford focus. They are dirtbikes for offroad not a straight line. Get on a tight motocross track and the yz will have the advantage.
that video says more about the yz250 than xr650. yz is very impressive compared to such a big 4 banger. I expected the xr to accelerate faster . that xr650 would likely get mullered by a ktm 300 with 14:50 gearing
I actually rode my 650R with two guys who rode KTMs. One was on the 300 two stroke and the other was on the 450 four stroke. Neither of the KTMs could out run my XR650R in a straight line. The 300 was a beast though. It was torquey and easy to ride like a four stroke. Great bike, glad KTM still makes them. I think a 300cc two stroke is one of the best all round bikes you can buy.
400cc bigger engine😂. That is so sad. If you only realized a engine is a air pump you would understand. Either double the CC’s or RPM’s on a 4 stroke to make the same power as a 2 stroke. This video should explain it to you pretty simple. 650cc vs 250cc. I love to see the 4 stroke fan club always comparing 450cc to 250cc or like this video 650cc vs 250cc and think they have a mean machine because they barely out ran the 2 stroke. 😂
Not a good start on the yz. Should've had the rpms up halfway, in second gear, let go of clutch, and wrung out second gear for like 3 seconds untill shifting to 3rd, then make your way to 4th and 5th

Instant torque.. I bought that bike.

It doesn't really have all that much more torque than a the 250, they're within 5 lb ft of eachother.
@@WilliamStewart1 it’s that way the torque is delivered. Fun fact. An xr650r will come up easier than a yz250.

4 strokes with way higher ccs can beat a two stroke on top speed hands down
