I love you so much my friend. You ask why? There are many reasons. First of all, you are an incredibly positive person, it is very enjoyable to watch and listen to you, and you convey something new in each of your videos and you give new ideas to many people about information. Today, Sunday morning ( Latvia, 10.05) I have my coffee and will watch you with pleasure. Cheers, Duade 👍
Hi Duade, Event if I’m not a Canon guy I follow you because you’re really honest with your comments and feedback. On this video I really appreciated the way you display the Raw and the edited version. The way you shoot birds in their environnement (and not necessary the closest as possible) is very inspiring 👌
Never shot with Canon but he's one of the few I'm getting notifications when posting a new video 🤠. Photographic laws are the same no matter the brand 🤷♂️
This channel is also not that dedicated about gear and more about wildlife in practice which i enjoy so much more, unlike the spec sheet readers, so called "reviewers".
Just found of what you convey as a photographer. The Duade's birdphoto style is just perfect. Peaceful, ethical and positive. So enjoyable, here from France. Looking forward to watching the next one! Cheers
"Don't take my word for it." On the contrary, yours is the most reliable word on the subjects you cover. Really appreciate the real world testing and assessments. Thank you, Duade. I would be curious how the R6II performs with some of your older Canon glass.
I have been using the R6II with this lens for a week or so now. Overall I feel it does slightly better than the R7 but still not ideal. My pulsing was not as bad as you what you experienced. I was using all standard af setting and the factory firmware on the lens. When it does hit, the images are great like you mentioned. For me this combo is liveable for now until someone comes out with a decent 600m RF lens in the 1000$-2000$ range.
Thanks for sharing Spence, yes the results from the kit are fantastic which makes it frustrating, if the AF worked like the RF lenses it would be an instant buy for many. Cheers, Duade
Thank you Duade for your Video. I ended up getting the R6 Mark 2 on Thurday after watching all your videos for the last year and a half. I have the Sigma 150-600 and have used in the back yard shooting Rabits and Chipmunk. I have not had the eye tracking on yet but the single point auto focus is quick and snappy. For me this camera is a major upgrade coming from the Canon 6D mark 1 and 80D. Lol I will let you know what I find when try some wild life Photagraphy other than the back yard. Thanks again yo do great work.
Great video Duade. My wife Lauretta had the Sigma 150-600 Sport on her R5 and had a lot of issues with it. She still has the lens but never uses it. She lost 100mm when she switched to the Canon 100-500 but it handles the autofocus so much better and the photos are sharper. And FYI.. I have seen antechinus at the Duck Pond on several occasions. 👍
Hi Duade. Another great video, thank you very much. The sooner Canon open up the RF lens mount to the Sigma and Tamrons of this world the better. Sony and now Nikon have opened up their lens mounts and if Canon don't do the same before too long they are going to start losing customers. If they did open up the RF mount it may even be possible for Sigma etc to do some sort of firmware update to their EF mount lenses to overcome the autofocus problems. We can only hope. Some brilliant images in the video even with the frustrating autofocus. Thanks again. John
Hello Duade, you are enjoying taking pictures in the wilderness and we are happy to share these moments with you... Your feedback is always interesting specially when we have to choose a new camera! Thanks for all your videos ! Greetings from France !
Hello Duade. I am always impressed of your work. The area is looking amazing. Perfect for wonderfull wildlife shots. Hope you enjoyed the trip. Greetings from germany. Stefan
Nice video. In agree that the AF is sending. LOT of info fast and sending tons of input changes to the motors of the lens and the 3rd party just doesn't know what to do with it. I've been amazed in testing the ability of the R6MKII tagging super small birds in flight. Wish it had more MP :( Oh and your "low light" looks like my good light lol
Another great video! I'm wondering if the 150-600mm lens has had firmware updates applied? I had one I used with my 70D and it worked great. When I got the EOS-R, the same lense was great. When I got the R5, it started hunting for focus more. I updated the lens firmware and it got better.......not perfect, but much better. Might be something to ask your friend if it's been updated. Maybe make another video after the update if it hasn't. Just a thought.
I own the Sigma 150-600mm 1:5-6.3 DG OS HSM C as well as the Canon EOS 90D and the EOS R7. In the meantime, I have found that the 90D works much better with the Sigma 150-600 than the R7, since the AF pumps less and the images are almost always sharp. Also, the IS seems to work better with the 90D because the image shakes less. So I guess I'll have to keep the 90D.
As I had mentioned in your last video, I got a new R6 MKII. I have a TamronG2 150-600. It also pulses quite a lot while focusing on the eye. It may be due to my own lack of familiarity with the focusing system. I am going to a bird sanctuary next weekend. Will try to get some raptors there will let you know.
I had that lens. I had similar AF issues on the original R6 and R5. In addition, the lens VR paired with the bodies' IBIS was unacceptably jerky, especially for video. I eventually got the Canon RF 100-500 and sold the Tamron. I miss the extra reach, but nothing else.
I don’t have the mkii but that lens does exactly the same on my R6. I’m a absolute beginner so thought I was doing something wrong so am relieved to see this. Thank you. Most frustrating part is it changes focus as you take a picture also. Thank you again
G'day Duade ! Thanks for sharing this experience mate. You share the passion and what makes birding so enjoyable, but you're just as open about some frustrations along the way. Not many are as honest as you ! From this session, I like the last kingfisher best !
Hi Duade, I've seen some users mention that the Sigma 60-600 doesn't exhibit as bad of focus issues as the 150-600. If you ever have the ability to try that combo it might be worth your while.
Was thinking about the Sigma 60-600mm myself, but after seeing this video I am concerned about purchasing one for my R6. Always excellent contend Duade!
Morning Duade, thanks for another cracking video. The Kingfishers probably my favourite bird and the photo of the Kingfisher leaving the perch was great. I have a Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 which I married up to Canon Eos R and I found it worked flawlessly, although admittedly, there was was no eye AF requirement to worry about. I recently bit the bullet and treated myself to an R5 and spent a morning at the Yindyamarra Sculpture Walk in Albury, getting to know it. I like it a lot and I think it's a good match for my RF100-500mm lens. Anyway Duade, keep up the good work. All the best and Merry Christmas.
Great to hear Brian, the R5 100-500 is a great combo, there must be plenty of water up your way at the moment. Feel free to send me an email with your details and we might have to catch up one day whilst I am up your way. Cheers, Duade duade.paton@gmail.com
Duade, Congrats on another great video. It really helps to have someone demonstrate this "pulsing" issue on the Sigma 150-600. I have had the Sigma-600 mm lens now for over 2 years. It is a good lens, but some days it just doesn't seem to want to grab focus. I have had the issue with using it on a Canon 6D. A very subtle issue but it grows to aggravation when it does not want to play nice at that key shooting moment. I basically learned ....it seemed to help... to turn the camera off ... and then back on - almost like a reset. I just purchased the Canon R5 just over 2 weeks ago (thanks for all the great videos on that camera, by the way) I cannot say the autofocus is worse on the R5, .... but it is definitely still there. I have learned to shoot manually a lot more in the last year or so. But the eye detection on the Canon R5 is one of the reasons I purchased it. I will say the pictures are amazing on this camera with the Sigma 150-600 so far. Such fantastic detail on birds. But I might upgrade the lens sometime to the (RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L ) and just have the 150-600 as backup on the older Canon 6D. I did buy the Sigma used and wonder if my years and previous use have anything to do with the "autofocus" issue, but you have shown and others have attested to the issue. Thanks again.
Thanks for sharing Bruce, I don't think we are alone and it does appear to vary from lens to lens. Have fun with the R5, a fantastic camera. Cheers, Duade
Hello. I also have the sigma 150-600C and the 6D. I have exactly the same problem that you mention. My next camera (hopefully) will be the R6ii. In my case the sigma was new! I don't know if from one moment to another I started with that problem or it's just that I noticed it.
@@fedegregor Yeah I upgraded to EOS R5 - I wanted a better camera after 3 years with the 6D, but I use the EOS R5 with the Sigma 150-600 and I still have the issue. It is annoying and it happened to me this weekend. When it happens it tends to do it when I have used the camera/lens shooting for a while - over an hour at least - and then it just cannot lock-in and "pulses". My solution still is to turn the camera off and it seems to reset and come back and not "pulse" for quite a while. But it is annoying. I want to upgrade to the fantastic RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L. but it is not a cheap lens so need to save $$$. I would keep the 6D and Sigma 150-600 as a kind of backup, plus a kind of sentimental reason as it got me into bird photography. Maybe keep it in the car truck for when I see something out of the blue and want to take its picture. I will say since I bought my lens used - I just looked it up 843.00 on November 30, 2020, and it has served me well, I dropped it once and broke the lens hood and replaced that. The pulsing annoys me at times. But it takes some very good photos with Canon R5.
Congratulatons Duade !!! Even though I bought the Canon RF 100-500 I couldn't bear the thought of getting rid of my Sigma 150-600C. When I saw the title of your video, for a few minutes I was thinking maybe I could sell the 100-500 and get a R6ii instead, but that pulsing looks far worse than anything I get with my original R6. Maybe it's time to move the Sigma on 😞. The Canon R6 with the RF100-500, works well for me, and even survived a dunk in the river a few weeks ago after an encounter with a bull.
Wow… the photos are amazing, Duade! As usual! One question, do you use back button focus or shutter button? If you want to keep tracking with back button, do you need to be constantly holding it or once it locked it was supposed to keep track?
Hi Martin, be sure to check out my recent review, lots of photos from that combo, I also have an upcoming video with it. Cheers, Duade ruclips.net/video/vYXHmb9LyeY/видео.html
Another great video. Those backlit landscape shots were beautiful. We all hope Sigma and other 3rd party manufacturers would somehow get an agreement from Canon for producing RF mount lens, especially, the 150-600 and other telephoto lens.
@@Duade I also hope but fear that if the sigma 150-600 comes in a RF version, it will be priced similarly to the canon rf 100-500mm f4.5-7.1l with usm. At the same time, I would like to ask your opinion on whether the sigma C would also work perfectly on the RP body, let's say when shooting an object or for single-point measurement of animals such as deer and the like, or is this refocusing only noticeable when choosing auto observation with the eye of animals
Hello, I have the R6 Mark II and I want to photograph flying birds, is this lens recommended for that? Hola tengo la R6 Mark II y quiero fotografiar aves volando, este objetivo es recomendable para eso?
Hello, nice video.Im wondering if you have tried the tamron 150-600g2 ?,with the r6.?.personally i think it's a better lens. (At least for nikon bodies).
where you buy that sigma lens camo clothing? great video. I also been having issues with the sigma focusing like you said on my Nikon. have you found a way to fix it?
Love the Cockatoo shots! I really love my Sigma 150-600 maybe they will be able to address this issue with firmware. I do see this issue in my R7 but not as bad as in this video. Cheers and thanks for another great video.
Thanks, yes, I did not have it as bad on the R7 either which is interesting, the R62 was by far the worst I have experienced which is a shame. Cheers, Duade
Hiii. I was thinking it would be more worth it. I have a Canon R10 and I want a telephoto lens for animals. I automatically thought of the RF 100-400mm. Native and with high focusing speed in addition to the low price (in my case 600 euros). On the other hand, there is the option of the sigma 150-600 contemporary, with a higher price (800 euros) + adapter (70-100 euros). What do you think is more worth it, losing those important mm in bird photography or the focusing speed in addition to perhaps other problems you have for not being Native?
Another great review. I have the R6 (not the R6ll) and enjoy the combination of that camera and Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens. I don’t have too many focus hunting issues using dual back button focus method.
Hi Jeremy, I don't with my Canon lenses, I would just forget to turn it back on. I don't notice any major negatives. With the Sigma lens the viewfinder jumps around on a tripod so it is easier to turn off. Cheers, Duade
Hey, I know about the pulsing but I also have it that in servo it micro focuses continuously. I’m shooting on the r and have the same with with the sigma 70-200 sport. It makes a clicking noise wich also happened on my r10 and I’ve heard others to have the same thing. It’s not the extreme pulsing mentioned here. The canon 24-105 f4 mark one has it too, original canon adapter. Any thoughts? Thanks and awesome video!
Another great video. Used this lens all day today on my R7. It worked well for distance stuff but I did experience the same pulsing at a shorted distance on a subject, probably my fault as the bird was probably 6 meters away. I prefer the 70-200L IS II for shorter range stuff or the RF 100-400. I'm still going to get the R6 II. Happy birding!
Thanks for this video, Duade. Have you ever tried the Sigma 150-600 sports on mirrorless bodies? I am curious because there are a few decent deals on used sports lenses.
Wondering if the pulsating would diminish if the image stabilization is turned off for the lens? I don’t know if this was tested on one of your videos.
Hi, yes, you can turn off the IS but unfortunately the pulsing still occurs. It is also very hard to use handheld with IS off. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers, Duade
I use my Canon R6 mk2 with my Sigma 150-600mm and shoot in manual/ auto ISO to do wildlife and don't get the amount of pulsing focus as you got, the eye tracking stuck to the subject. Not sure why you are getting that.
G'day Larry, unfortunately I have not so can't really comment, a few subscribers have tried it and they struggled with AF and IQ from what I understand. It is a very heavy lens also. Cheers, Duade
I have used the Sigma 150 - 600 since it came out and LOVE IT!! The reason I have not and probably will not switch to Canon Mirrorless are the issues with the combination. I have gone to buy the R7, R6 & R5 but non have worked right with the Sigma. Just heard that Sigma states that "The 150 - 600 will not work reliably with the Canon mirrorless system and at this time we do not have a replacement 150 - 600 for the mirrorless in the works" I hope this changes but the 5D mkIV's will not be going anyplace for a while.
Thanks Duade. I'm going to test an R6 mkll tomorrow with the Tamron 150-600 G2. I'm frustrated with my X-T5 and 100-400. I love the camera but the autofocus isn't reliable. I get green boxes indicating focus but on review, no go. I'll let you know how it goes after I shoot for a while. G'day mate
Thanks Duade for the amazing video, i am using R5 and learning to do bird or wildlife photography. I have RF 100-400 but is not long enough for the reach. The RF 100-500 is too expensive for me and i am looking for this sigma lens but realised the AF issue which required tweaking the settings (from your previous video) to improve the AF stability, not sure if I should get it or not. Anyway, I live in Sydney and Centennial Park is a great place to start I reckon, I am inspired by you and your amazing video. Hope I can learn more from you. Love your work and keep it up. Stay healthy and safe.
If you could afford a 4000$ body, you better also invest in good glass. The RF 100-400 is close to a shame on a R5. If the 100-400 is really too short, why not getting a RF 800 F11 in addition or just go for the expensive 100-500, thats the best fit for the R5 as much it hurts financially? I enjoyed the RF 800 a lot on full frame, not so much anymore on APS-C (R7, too much reach with 1280mm...) But the RF 800 is also another "low quality/budget" lens, i dont see much sense in getting a high end body and then use the lower end lenses on it. And even im doing this mistake, R7 is a higher end APS-C camera and i use more or less glass worth between 50 and 900$ (more towards the lower end^^) In your situation i would rather hope for a R7 Mk2 or so as 2nd/wildlife/video body, i began wildlife also with full frame and wildlife was the reason to switch back/downgrade from entry level FF to higher end APS-C again. At first i kept the FF camera, then i realized a backup is nice but i dont really need it, as well i didnt had much practical use for the entry level FF camera anymore but much more for the more modern APS-C.
Hi Duade, you mentioned in another video that with some EF mount lenses, we won’t get 12fps in mechanical shutter mode. Is that the case with this Sigma lens on a R6 Mark II?
Greetings Duade, I want to change my Canon RP body but stay with my Sigma 150-600C for the moment because I want something more intelligent with bird tracking in the AF. From what I see, the sigma 150 -600mm has flickering problems in AF. I have seen all your videos of the R7 and I am afraid to invest my money there. Today I said I'm going for something more Professional and I see that it also has a problem with the Canon R6. I think it's easier to ask you with which body that 150-600 lens you had less problem buying it so that later I can change the lens to a native Canon one. I have even considered switching to a Sony look A6700 with a 200-600 lens. I will take notes of your comments and thank you for your videos.
I've been using the 150-600C with the R6mk2 for about a year now and have experienced the same issues. However, I have found the issue goes away in crop mode. This isn't optimal as I am now down to a 9MP image. I have tied various custom settings with no change in full frame mode. I have recently added the RF100-400 and will most like add a 1.4TC to the mix and ditch the sigma. the 100-500 is just too pricey for the limited wildlife photography I do.
Hi! You have shot both the Sigma (Contemporary) and the Tamron (G2) 150-600mm. According to you, which one has better autofocus capabilities with Canon mirrorless cameras? Really looking forward to your response because it affects my purchase decision. Thanks!
G'day, so tough to answer as it was a long time ago now, and I only used the Tamron on the original R6 and they were very similar. I thought the Sigma offered better value but the Tamron is weather sealed I believe. I did have some struggles with the Sigma on the R6II and R7 when getting close and something to be aware of. Sorry I cannot be more definitive but they are very similar. Is there any way to rent the lens first to try? Cheers, Duade
@@Duade Thanks for the response. We do not have rentals here. Hence, was looking forward to your experience. Anyway, I believe since both struggle with autofocus, I will go for the cheaper Sigma and later, when I can afford, I'd get a Canon L lens. Thanks again!
Hello Duade, I watch and enjoy your amazing videos regularly. I am visiting Australia (from South Africa) and need a lens hood and lens coat for Canon RF 100-400 Lens. Is there a photographic equipment supplier that you can recommend?
Hey Duade! Fantastic channel, really enjoy your videos. Just a thought, in case nobody mentioned it already: Which Firmware are you running on the Sigma lens? I had a multitude of issues with my 50 ART and (!) Tamron 85 VC until I updated both via their respective adapters. Might be worth a try, especially since it unlocked H+-Mode (in mechanical shutter) on my 50 Art which was previously unavailable with the old firmware on both my R6 and R5. Both worked fine afterwards.
Thanks Moritz, great to hear, I also have the 50 Art which is a beautiful lens. I was using the most up to date firmware for the lens at the time, hopefully the update it to address some of these issues. Cheers, Duade
Beautiful video, as always Duade. Can I make a question? How to you say the screen above the camera, showing what you are pointing at? If I am not mistaken you called it' ninja' ? Thanks
Thx Duade for your video! Love you style. You are confirming my decision to turn my back on Canon and changing to a different system for mirrorless. I still got my 90d, but when testing the R7 with my EF glass I was very disappointed with the performance (speed and reliability). And when buying new, I wanted something more compact (and less expensive) than what Canon has to offer at the moment on the RF Mount. I guess the newer the camera or the software, the less it will match with the older lenses. And, I have to say it again… love your style🙂
Hi Duade, I'm struggling to buy the Sigma or the Tamron 150-600mm. But it seems, I wont buy one of these lenses, rather waiting until I can effort one of the f4 Canon lenses. So long I'll use my 400mm f5.6 lens with one of my 2 extenders. Cheers Andreas
I have similar issue with Sigma 150-600mm C lens with Canon R6 Mark II. There is a firmware update for Sigma 150-600mm C lens which fixes the auto focus issue. I’m not sure if that resolves the problem but it’s worth trying.
Hi Johannes, I have not had the pleasure of trying the Sport version unfortunately, I have used the 1.4x III canon converter on the Contemporary and it does focus on the Canon Mirrorless bodies. It will make the pulsing worse but it works. Cheers, Duade
Nice video, and gret shots! I like the kingfisher most. I hope Canon allowes third-party lenses for RF soon! I wan't to go out so much, in my region of Germany is nice snow, I have a feeder in my yard and the birds are there, but i'm sick! You made my day with this video, thank you!
I recently tried the Sigma 150-600 on my R7 and had exactly the same issues, so I didn't buy the lens. The Canon 100-400mm MKII is so much the better option 👍
Hello Duade, I didnt see the same update on this video, but was this filmed before or after you received the settings that reduces the pulsing from the community (Simon)? Considering the upgrade to R6mkII to pair with my 150-600C
Update: I purchased my R6mkII and tested it on my Sigma 150-600C. I found that it just stopped focusing all together. Instead of giving me the Blue box when tracking the eye or body of the bird it was red. The only way to work around this was to manually override the focus, and when it was close to in focus the lens found the bird and started to stick. However it would go in and out when the bird moved. Was frustrating, but was slightly different than the pulsing described in previous videos and this one. I'm not sure if this makes a difference but my out of the box R6mkII was on an unreleased firmware of 1.1.4. I was still able to get good shots but just had to manually override it from time to time for the focus to find what I was looking for.
Hi Duade, where can i get the camouflage cover for the Sigma 150-600mm that you have? Thanks anyway for your videos, they realy help me progress in my birds photos and my understanding of my equipment. (Canon R6 mark ii and Sigma 150-600mm contemporary)
How did your lens hold up in the rain as nobody is talking about how well the lens holds up in rain, I would like to know as I don’t want to ruin my lens.
I'm running a sigma 150-600c on a canon m50mk2 and even with the entry level camera the lens does great at distance in good light, anything close really doesn't af well at all unless there's high contrast and a lot of light. I've also had to disable eye tracking because it throws af into chaos on this combo, lol
Yes, generally with this lens I turn it off, there is a IS mode via the dock that allows IS on using a tripod and the IS works when you take the shot. With Canon lenses I generally leave it on, I don't see any major difference and it keeps the viewfinder nice and steady. Cheers, Duade
Thanks for pointing this issue out to us all. I am new to bird photography and have had little use with this lens as yet. However I went out today in the garden to practice it just would not lock on and constantly searched the branches and not the bird. Most frustrating and I thought it was me. I then realised that it was my first time out with this combo, as when I first used it I was still using an EOS R and it worked OK. I don' think I will be trying to learn this type of photography with this lens...most disappointing.
Hi, I want to buy a lens coat for the Sigma150-600mm. Wich one do you used in the Video? And can you recommend it to me or can someone else can help me?
Lenscoat always make nice covers which I have used personally. I think this one was Rolanpro which is also nice. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Cheers, Duade
Duade, I am not a Canon user, but could the problem be the adapter to go from EF lens to the RF mount on the Canon 6 mark II?. I know the EF mount cameras don't have bird eye detection, but do you have the same issue with Sigma lens on a EF mount camera? As always great video!!!!
I need a professional's advice! should I buy a Canon EOS 1D X (used) or a Canon Eos Rebel T8i (used)? I found them both for around 600 each. I want to begin wildlife photography. I've been using my galaxy but I'm tired of the bad quality. I can't get close to my subject for sharp images.
Hi John, two very different cameras, one is a FF professional body. The 1DX is far superior in almost every way. The advantage of the T8i is video, a 24mp crop sensor will make the subject bigger than the 18mp FF body and it is much lighter. But the 1DX is a pro level body with incredible build quality, 10fps, good buffer, great AF and is a joy to use. The shutter is very loud and it is very heavy so be aware of that. I personally would go with the 1dx. Cheers, Duade
Many thanks Duade! Your videos are brilliant; definitely keep up the awesome work you do. I have to say I'm pretty disappointed that the Eye AF issues seem to be worse on the R6 Mark II when compared to the R6 Mark I. I hope they fix it with a firmware update in future. I think I'll be sticking with my 6D Mark II and 7D Mark II for now. The only real draw to mirrorless (for me) are these 'helpful' features like Eye AF with all of my lenses (Canon and third-party). Personally speaking it's in Canon's interests to support third-party lenses, otherwise if I have to replace my third-party lenses with Canon equivalents when moving to mirrorless, I'm jumping ship to another brand. If the local camera shop will let me try a Canon R6 Mark II with my Tamron 150-600mm G2 I'll chime back in!
I already had the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary and use with my Canon 5D Mark IV. When I tried it with the Canon R6 Mark II after I purchased it, I had trouble with it focusing. I also have the Sigma 14-24 f/2.8 and haven't noticed a problem with it focusing. If I am using the 150-600, I put it on my 5D Mark IV instead because of this issue. I also have the first gen Canon 24-70 mm f/2.8 and the 3rd generation 70-200 f/2.8 and haven't had any issues with focusing with either of those. I haven't purchased any RF lenses yet.
Thanks again Duade for the great practical info and photos. I have the sigma 150-600c and have used it on three cameras now. The Canon SL3 (crop DSLR), RP, and currently the R6 mkI. I have to say the IQ and AF have improved with each camera upgrade. I do though, have the AF issues you have pointed out do persist to varying degrees even with the setting you passed on. Definitely a disappointment considering when the lens hits focus it’s wonderful. I have just noticed that with the 17.0 R6 firmware update the AF seems to have improved when the subject is small or at a distance. Looks as though these quirks will have to be put up with as no other lens quite packs the value as this one. My wish would be a RF 200-600 with similar quality as the RF 100-400. Till then I’ll bide my time to see if the R5 mkII will bring used R5’s into my price range. Or possibly a miracle buy on a RF 100-500! Thanks again!
Thanks for your input Bill, I love the Sigma lens, the quality for the price is hard to beat. It will be interesting to see what Canon release in the future. Cheers, Duade
Hey thanks for confirming there is an improvement with the 1.7.0 firmware on the R6, as google doesn't return anything apart from a japanese YT video that talks about some improvement, everybody else is just parroting what Canon said the firmware does.
Duade, it is quite odd, my Sigma 50-500 on my R6 doesn't seem to pulse. Maybe is is the newer kit which has problems. Also my Sigma 120-300 gets sharp images on the R6, but not the R5
@@Duade as camera bodies can identify individual lenses I wouldn't put it past Canon to bug out the competition. One way to check that could be a comparison between a Sigma 50-500 and a 60-600. Judging from YT almost everyone is promoting the RF100-500. Which is what Canon wants.
I just recently upgraded my EOS R to an R5 and I only own Sigma lenses, one of which is the 60 - 600 - I'll be in Florida next Friday for 3 weeks doing the various wildlife sanctuary tour that I've previously done with the EOS R and I really hope that focusing issue isn't a problem on the R5! Love your style, you're a great teacher and inspiration, awesome work!
Thanks Pierre, I don't think that lens is as impacted as the contemporary being a newer design. Good luck with it and be sure to let me know how you go. Cheers, Duade
I am considering buying the Sigma 60-600, would love to hear how this works out. I currently own the Canon 100-400L II, which works great adapted to the R5. But I have a need for this range in one lens.
@@Duade I shoot in a particular venue, for speakers, concerts, conferences, etc. I rarely can move to the front so have to stay in the back. The 60mm will give me the entire stage, with 600mm for zoom range in one lens. Yes, I have the 1.4x, but not helpful on the short end. Will likely rent this before purchasing, but interested in others experiences too. Thanks for responding, enjoy your content!
Thank you for another very interesting video and thank you for the initial demo of the gimbal itself (saw Santa Amazon delivering mine yesterday, cant wait to try it). Coming back to the difficulties with the Sigma, would you have the capacity to test and advise about RF lenses by any chance ? Having a 40D and investing soon in an R5 or R6, I will have to replace a couple of my current lenses (the EFS' ones) and I was wondering if you had your favourites or if it would be preferable for the moment to still invest in EF + adaptor ? Thank you !
Ignore me, you did duh ! the 800 and the 100-400; well, I have to watch them again then ! May I change a bit my question and ask if for RF you had a chance to try any from their L series ?
Sylvian, the RF100-500 is one of the best lenses I have used, very light, sharp and a great all around lens. It is a little short at 500mm on a FF but a lovely lens. The EF100-400 II works well with an adapter and takes a teleconverter well also. The only other RF L series are the big primes which cost a fortune but are very nice. Cheers, Duade
Duade. First off, I love the channel and look forward to all your videos. May I make a suggestion for future content? I’d like to see more training type video on settings and exposure in the field. Tips on getting the most from the gear that you can. Handling low light, where you compromise. That’s a big one for me. I love to shoot in the morning, but the RF 100-500 does struggle at 7.1. With the R5. What conditions you are looking for to create certain images. I don’t carry a tripod. Sometimes a monopod. Mostly walks in parks and woods. I’ve been shooting for 2 years. Weekend warrior for now due to work, and have been learning so much. I love that you highlight the gear, and what is possible. I know I need to grow my skills, and experience. So maybe more learning videos? Again thank you for all your hard work.
Such a helpful video. I was researching the Sigma 600 lens with Canon R6MII and found your video. Such a fantastic job and examples. I will now be following you to learn more. Excellent work and appreciate you sharing your findings.
Great footage and photos despite the struggle. Have you any experience with Sports series Sigma lenses already? 60-600mm? 150-600mm? 120-300 f2.8? I have good experience in terms of AF on R7 with 60-600mm, but I want to buy FF Canon (probably used R5) and wonder whether the problem is the brand on Canon FF bodies or just that one lens on all Canon bodies.
How is the stabilization in combination with that heavy bomber of a lens? I guess handheld video is unusable? I was looking into the 60-600, the datasheet scared me already a lot, in a shop the weight was stupidly high so holding still was only because of the weight impossible. Pretty much as bad as the 150-600C but you can hold this a lot more stable, 35% less weight. And the af issues are canon mirrorless system wide, 150-600C and sports are problematic, the big sigma and tamron primes are working nice at least on R5/R6 (as duade showed already), no clue about the 120-300.
Hi Pawel, apologies for the delay, not sure why comment didnt show in my feed. I have not used any of the sport series personally. Simon did try the 120-300 and struggled with it I believe. The 60-600 is the latest version I think. I would like to try that lens at some stage. If you get the R5 I wonder if you could go into a shop and try the lens, maybe take a small bird toy with you and try the eye af. Good luck, Cheers, Duade
Sigma lenses of her "Sport'" line seem to work reasonably well with R7 and R5, while the 'Contemporary" does not. I tried 150-600 C and 60-600 S and found this out. R7 is more friendly to third-party lenses when compared with R5, but I have noo idea with R6 mk2.
I use the Sigma 150-600 with the EOS R7 and R50. I'm also having trouble focusing. Many times I had to miss the chance to catch the good timing of the birds in motion. Or even a bird sitting still. When I press the shutter halfway to focus, the lens still won't focus. after watching your clip should be enough as a way to face problems thank you from Thailand
hello Duade is it true the R6 mk2 has a improved focus area on the RF 800 and 600mm lenses but just one thing to mention please make sure your not in crop mode as this naturally increases the focus box. Brent hall said hes not in crop mode but he seemed to think I was being rude for asking this. If the focus box is bigger it makes the rf 800 and 600 alot more useable . If this is the case could this not be rolled out to the R6 and R5 via firmware ???
Yes, the R62 gets 80x80% AF coverage with the F11 lenses compared to the 40x60% of the R6/R5. I show this in my R62 review video. The R3 is the same so I suspect it has something to do with the faster sensor readout speed and updated AF of the cameras. I would love for them to do the same on the R5/R6 but I believe that is unlikely, it would be good to hear from Canon about that. I suspect they will say there are hardware differences between the cameras that allow it. Cheers, Duade
@@Duade thanks for that I have been comparing the r6 to the r6 II specs. I have noticed the r6 has 1175 more focus points and its pixels area is bigger I guess this could be a reason why the box is smaller on the R6. Also pixel area is bigger 43.00µm2vs36.00µm2. Thanks for taking the time to reply. It would also be nice to get you on one of the livestreams I have started to do If you check my channel out you will see I have started to do livestreams. I am trying to get some youtubers interested but its not easy as normally big youtubers don't wish to help a smaller channel out. I could work some thing out that fits around your time zone as I have a panel in America who come on. It can be a challenge to get asia and usa and uk at a convenient time for all. But if you gave me a time I could plan for it at your convenience of course. many thanks regard's paul.
@@canonlensesandcameras4425 The AF specs are confusing but they have the same amount of AF points, one lot is with tracking the other is without. The sensor speed has a big impact as it has more AF calculations. At least 14ms vs 19.5. also it actually has more pixels on subject having 4 more megapixels. They only really give 10% more linear resolution. Cheers, Duade 👍
Hi Duade, I have two of the Canon R3s and just received my canon R6 II. In regard to your AF issue, I have used my Sigma 60-600 mm lens on all 3 Canons using the EF/RF adapter and found a similar issue. In theory, I believe the Canon cameras sense a non-native lens is attached, hence AF communications between the camera and the lens are the issue, as Canon RF lenses are very stable and exhibit faster and truer AF. You might try turning the AF tracking to OFF and use the R6 II as an ordinary DSLR-to manually track using back focus. I do know that Canon seems to have AF issues not being able to hold to the original AF point, but snaps to another close point. Perhaps future camera firmware can fix or improve that issue.
The photos you managed to get in focus are sharp and beautiful. I bought the Sirui AR3204 about a month ago and I can't believe how sturdy it is, compared to my Leofoto tripod.
What would be nice is to try the Nikon Z9 with the Sigma 150-600. I bought the body, but haven't bought a lens yet and am not sure if the Sigma will work well or not.
The way you show the original capture with the final image overlaid is truly original and so helpful to understanding your process.
Sounds like a great way to enjoy the morning, I hope you enjoyed it. Take care and thanks for the long term support. Cheers, Duade 👍
Totally. His speech is therapy 😇😇😇
I totally agree! Also watching Duade having my coffee on Sunday morning. Summer shining in Santa Maria (29° 41' 29'' S - 53° 48 W) Brazil. Cheers!
I like your videos great lectures but what happened with Jan Wegener ? I really miss him ????
@@antonmuhlbock9486 Hi, Anton.yes you are right, he hasn't shared a new video for a long time. I'm just as curious as you.
Fully agreed, I'm neither into Canon or Sigma but as soon as I see Duade's uploaded something, I've got to watch it.
Just found of what you convey as a photographer. The Duade's birdphoto style is just perfect. Peaceful, ethical and positive. So enjoyable, here from France. Looking forward to watching the next one! Cheers
Thanks Nicolas, you are too kind, I appreciate the feedback, Cheers, Duade
"Don't take my word for it." On the contrary, yours is the most reliable word on the subjects you cover. Really appreciate the real world testing and assessments. Thank you, Duade. I would be curious how the R6II performs with some of your older Canon glass.
Thanks, I am no expert and just share my own experience which is hopefully helpful. I used the 400 5.6 and it worked well with the R6II. Cheers, Duade
Lol
I will let you know what I find when try some wild life Photagraphy other than the back yard.
Thanks mate, yes the 100-500 is a beautiful lens and works great on the R5. Great to hear about the Antechinus at the duck pond. Cheers, Duade
John
Thanks John, I totally agree and hope they can come to some sort of arrangement soon. Cheers, DUade
How is the Tamron 150-600 auto focus? Is it any better?
Appreciate the review of this lens and camera together!
Hi Duade, I highly appreciate this kind of video, combining technical informations with working in the field. Thanks.
Thanks Paul, It is my pleasure, Cheers, Duade
Hello Duade, you are enjoying taking pictures in the wilderness and we are happy to share these moments with you... Your feedback is always interesting specially when we have to choose a new camera! Thanks for all your videos ! Greetings from France !
Thanks Laurent, I appreciate it, Cheers, Duade
Hello Duade. I am always impressed of your work. The area is looking amazing. Perfect for wonderfull wildlife shots. Hope you enjoyed the trip. Greetings from germany. Stefan
Thanks Stefan, I appreciate it, yes, it was a great day out. Cheers, Duade 👍
Nice video. In agree that the AF is sending. LOT of info fast and sending tons of input changes to the motors of the lens and the 3rd party just doesn't know what to do with it.
I've been amazed in testing the ability of the R6MKII tagging super small birds in flight. Wish it had more MP :(
Oh and your "low light" looks like my good light lol
Great to hear mate, I need to do more BIF testing myself but great to hear you are enjoying the camera. Pretty incredible really. Cheers, Duade 👍
@Aditya Harite. Yes, please post your experience at the bird sanctuary with your Tamron. Thanks.
G'day Bruce, my pleasure, Cheers, DUade
G'day Duade ! Thanks for sharing this experience mate. You share the passion and what makes birding so enjoyable, but you're just as open about some frustrations along the way. Not many are as honest as you !
From this session, I like the last kingfisher best !
Thanks Werner, I appreciate the support and feedback, yes, the Kingfishers were fun, Cheers, Duade
Hi , Which one is better for Photography R6 mark 2 or R7 ?
By the way nice video .. 👌☺️
Hi Duade, I've seen some users mention that the Sigma 60-600 doesn't exhibit as bad of focus issues as the 150-600. If you ever have the ability to try that combo it might be worth your while.
Thanks, yes, I would like to try that lens one day. Cheers, Duade
@@Duade yes please do it!! If you're near the Gold Coast you can borrow mine Duade.
Thanks Rodrigo, yes it does appear worse for some reason which is a shame. Cheers, Duade 👍
Wow… the photos are amazing, Duade! As usual! One question, do you use back button focus or shutter button? If you want to keep tracking with back button, do you need to be constantly holding it or once it locked it was supposed to keep track?
Duade is such a nice person; that he says, “you’ll have to take my word for it”. Even when he has plenty of video proof. Haha love these videos. 🙂
Can you try the RF 800mm lens with the R6 Mark II? I'm curious to know if it works great and how the image quality is. I can't rent one where I live.
Hi Martin, be sure to check out my recent review, lots of photos from that combo, I also have an upcoming video with it. Cheers, Duade ruclips.net/video/vYXHmb9LyeY/видео.html
watched this and your review on Canon RF 100-400 IS as well....hmm so for R6, it seems you'd recommend RF 100-400 instead of Sigma 150-600?
I have a Sigma Art 50mm 1.4 and so far it's been stellar on the R6 II.
Wonderful to hear, that is a cracking lens. Cheers, Duade 👍
Another great video. Those backlit landscape shots were beautiful. We all hope Sigma and other 3rd party manufacturers would somehow get an agreement from Canon for producing RF mount lens, especially, the 150-600 and other telephoto lens.
Thanks Simon, totally agree, Cheers, Duade
@@Duade I also hope but fear that if the sigma 150-600 comes in a RF version, it will be priced similarly to the canon rf 100-500mm f4.5-7.1l with usm. At the same time, I would like to ask your opinion on whether the sigma C would also work perfectly on the RP body, let's say when shooting an object or for single-point measurement of animals such as deer and the like, or is this refocusing only noticeable when choosing auto observation with the eye of animals
G'day, there should not be any issue on the RP as it does not have eye tracking. Cheers, Duade@@MrRaduso

I really enjoy your videos. Do you turn off the image stabilization when you shoot on a tripod? I have heard various answers to this question.
Hi Jeremy, I don't with my Canon lenses, I would just forget to turn it back on. I don't notice any major negatives. With the Sigma lens the viewfinder jumps around on a tripod so it is easier to turn off. Cheers, Duade
Thanks for your great video. It made my Sunday (in Germany) joyful. 🙏
That is great to hear, thanks for the ongoing support, Cheers, Duade
Even though I bought the Canon RF 100-500 I couldn't bear the thought of getting rid of my Sigma 150-600C.
Thanks for confirming Tony, always hard when you have only used one lens. Yes, good to have another option. Have fun out there. Cheers, Duade 👍
Have you tried the Sigma 120-300 mm 2.8 sports model with any Canon R5 or R7 ? By the way great videos.
G'day Larry, unfortunately I have not so can't really comment, a few subscribers have tried it and they struggled with AF and IQ from what I understand. It is a very heavy lens also. Cheers, Duade
What amazing shots of the king fisher's happy birding have an awsum xmas stay safe out in the bush...........
I have the R6MII. I 'm just curious what AF point or zone were you using. ??
I have used the Sigma 150 - 600 since it came out and LOVE IT!! The reason I have not and probably will not switch to Canon Mirrorless are the issues with the combination. I have gone to buy the R7, R6 & R5 but non have worked right with the Sigma. Just heard that Sigma states that "The 150 - 600 will not work reliably with the Canon mirrorless system and at this time we do not have a replacement 150 - 600 for the mirrorless in the works" I hope this changes but the 5D mkIV's will not be going anyplace for a while.
Yes, it is a shame as it is such a good lens, have fun with the 5d4, Cheers, Duade
Excellent video, thank you Duade for compiling a good mix of technical and practical experiences. Keep it up
Thanks Duade. G'day mate
Thanks Bruce, I look forward to hearing how you went with the R6II, Cheers, Duade
I enjoyed the RF 800 a lot on full frame, not so much anymore on APS-C (R7, too much reach with 1280mm...)
But the RF 800 is also another "low quality/budget" lens, i dont see much sense in getting a high end body and then use the lower end lenses on it. And even im doing this mistake, R7 is a higher end APS-C camera and i use more or less glass worth between 50 and 900$ (more towards the lower end^^)
In your situation i would rather hope for a R7 Mk2 or so as 2nd/wildlife/video body, i began wildlife also with full frame and wildlife was the reason to switch back/downgrade from entry level FF to higher end APS-C again. At first i kept the FF camera, then i realized a backup is nice but i dont really need it, as well i didnt had much practical use for the entry level FF camera anymore but much more for the more modern APS-C.
The in flight pic of the kingfisher looks amazing, and that was with the sigma lens wow 😳😳
Hi Duade, you mentioned in another video that with some EF mount lenses, we won’t get 12fps in mechanical shutter mode. Is that the case with this Sigma lens on a R6 Mark II?
Hi, no there does not appear to be any FPS restrictions with the Sigma lens. Cheers, Duade 👍
Great info Duade, really saw the meaning of down and dirty. Thanks for showing the raw file and the cropped finished version.👀
Have you tested the autofocus also without using the external monitor? I heard that the monitor can slow down or effects the autofocus.
Good point, yes I did a few times and had similar issues. Cheers, Duade 👍
G'day Bruce, Digidirect are good. You can get the hood via Amazon I think if you want the after market one. Cheers, Duade 👍
Thanks Sigurd, you are too kind, I am planning on trying Sony, Fuji, Olympus and Nikon in 2023 which should be fun. Cheers, Duade
Hi Duade,
I'm struggling to buy the Sigma or the Tamron 150-600mm.
But it seems, I wont buy one of these lenses, rather waiting until I can effort one of the f4 Canon lenses.
So long I'll use my 400mm f5.6 lens with one of my 2 extenders.
Cheers
Andreas
Love the Kingfisher taking off shot Duade. I can see that I'll have to get back to the wetlands again, as to when?
I have similar issue with Sigma 150-600mm C lens with Canon R6 Mark II. There is a firmware update for Sigma 150-600mm C lens which fixes the auto focus issue. I’m not sure if that resolves the problem but it’s worth trying.
Duade have you tried sigma 150-600c with teleconverters with r6, r6 ii or r5? And have you tried sigma 150-600 sports version?
I'm sure it'll perform better, but it won't have the reach of the Sigma.
Great video, there is a lot to learn from you. Do you turn the IS off when you use a tripod/monopod/groundpod?
Yes, generally with this lens I turn it off, there is a IS mode via the dock that allows IS on using a tripod and the IS works when you take the shot. With Canon lenses I generally leave it on, I don't see any major difference and it keeps the viewfinder nice and steady. Cheers, Duade
@@Duade Thank you for the reply, much appreciated
Thank you
Duade, I am not a Canon user, but could the problem be the adapter to go from EF lens to the RF mount on the Canon 6 mark II?. I know the EF mount cameras don't have bird eye detection, but do you have the same issue with Sigma lens on a EF mount camera? As always great video!!!!
Hi Duade - if you already have the Sigma 150-600 would you keep it or trade down to the RF 100-400 until you could afford the RF 100-500?
Great to hear Maddie, I suspect the Tamron is not quite as bad. Cheers, Duade
Thanks for sharing, strange isnt it, no idea why so many lenses are different. Cheers, Duade
@@riddleuncc Have you considered using a 1.4x converter on your 100-400 giving you 140-560 f8 It works very well with tracking etc. Cheers, Duade 👍
@@riddleuncc I would love to try the lens also, it is a very impressive zoom range. Good luck, Cheers, Duade
great pictures as ever, thanks so much. love the grebe shot you showed in the end of the video.
I also have the Sirui PH10 on my Skimmer Ground Pod ll. Great combo!
Thanks Abe, a great combo for sure, Cheers, Duade
Glad it was helpful!
@@harrison00xXx video handheld no way. I didn't expect anything.
Thanks for sharing that Simon, I would love to try the sport version myself one day. Cheers, Duade
I use the Sigma 150-600 with the EOS R7 and R50.
I'm also having trouble focusing.
Many times I had to miss the chance to catch the good timing of the birds in motion.
Or even a bird sitting still. When I press the shutter halfway to focus, the lens still won't focus.
after watching your clip should be enough as a way to face problems
thank you

hello Duade is it true the R6 mk2 has a improved focus area on the RF 800 and 600mm lenses but just one thing to mention please make sure your not in crop mode as this naturally increases the focus box.
Thanks Danny, yes, it is fantastic, Cheers, Duade
What would be nice is to try the Nikon Z9 with the Sigma 150-600. I bought the body, but haven't bought a lens yet and am not sure if the Sigma will work well or not.
What adapter so you use for the Sigma? I use the Canon EF RF adapter and can not make it work with 3:e part lenses.
Do you happen to know if people are having the same issue with the pulsing using the 60-600 or 150-600 sport versions??
